A J-MADeM Agent-Based Social Simulation to Model Urban Mobility

2011

The mobility models followed within metropolitan areas, mainly based on the massive use of the car instead of the public transportation, will soon become unsustainable unless there is a change of citizens’ minds and transport policies. The main challenge related to urban mobility is that of getting free-flowing greener cities, which are provided with a smarter and accessible urban transport system. In this paper, we present an agent-based social simulation approach to tackle this kind of social-ecological systems. The Jason Multi-modal Agent Decision Making (JMADeM) library enable us to model and implement the social decisions made by each habitant about how to get to work every day, e.g., …

2012

The aim of this study was to analyse the residents´ perceptions of the impact of the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe after the first three races (2008, 2009 and 2010) in the city of Valencia. Therefore, we surveyed 1,065 residents to analyse their opinion of this event. Results indicate that aspects related to the economic benefits, the image, the athletic prestige, and opening the city up to the world are those which are rated the highest. However, aspects related to job creation, public investment, problems related to noise and traffic, public transportation and security, taking full advantage of and utility of infrastructure, and increase in sports practice and facilities are the worst ra…

RESTRICTIONS ON REGIONAL PASSENGER TRANSPORT DURING EPIDEMIOLOGICAL THREAT (COVID-19) – AN EXAMPLE OF THE LOWER SILESIAN VOIVODSHIP IN POLAND

2020

The beginning of 2020 was associated with the appearance of the global coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). The spread of the epidemic caused the introduction of an epidemiological emergency in Poland in early March (on March 12). This resulted in reduced public transport, including regional rail transport. In Lower Silesia, this concerned regional and fast connections. The conducted analysis concerns regional connections and is based on exploration of the spatial and the quantitative aspect of these changes. The transport offer before and after the announcing of the epidemic was analysed. The results showed that most of the transport restrictions concerned the peripheries of the voivodeship (l…

Transport in Spain: economic analysis of the sector

1982

Abstract This article analyses the evolution of the transport sector in Spain in recent years, the analysis being presented in three parts. The first part is an analysis of the sector from a macroeconomic point of view and its relation to the most relevant macromagnitudes of the Spanish Economy. The relative importance and relationship of transport is shown in relation to Gross Domestic Product, the evolution and the significance of the different modes of transportation, its significance in the Gross Formation of Fixed Capital and the relationship between transport and energy, balance of payments, employment and the public sector. The second part of the paper is a microeconomic analysis of …

Work Environment, Stress, and Driving Anger: A Structural Equation Model for Predicting Traffic Sanctions of Public Transport Drivers.

2018

Public transport is an effective and sustainable alternative to private vehicle usage, also helping to reduce the environmental impact of driving. However, the work environment of public transport operators is full of adverse conditions, which, together with their high mileage, may increase the occurrence of negative safety outcomes such as traffic accidents, often preceded by risky road behaviors enhanced by stress, anger, and difficult operating conditions. The aims of this study were, first, to determine the association between work-related psychosocial factors and individual characteristics of public transport drivers and the rate of traffic sanctions they are subject to; and second, to…

Competitive Group Analysis of Public Transport Services

2007

Abstract The aim of the present paper was to evaluate five passenger transport service providers (EMT urban buses, METROBUS metropolitan area buses, RENFE local trains, METRO underground trains and trams, TAXI) in a tourism-receiving metropolitan statistical area of Spain. User perceptions of the public transport services were obtained and the results indicate that public transport is making great efforts to adapt to user preferences. Despite the general level of satisfaction with public transport, however, not all the brands are equally interested in differentiation. The brands with less well-defined positioning, perceived as less closely associated with the different attributes examined (…

Fully Polynomial Time Approximation Scheme for the Two-Parallel Capacitated Machines Scheduling Problem Under Unavailability Constraint

2010

Abstract Decision Support Systems (DSS) ensure the computer-based support for the conscientious decision-making in solving problems that require a large amount of information processing and complex scenarios. DSS for Transportation (DSST) are intelligent systems that are used at operational and organizational management levels. Operating a DSST in a public transportation web-based monitoring system is presented in this paper.

Smart cities: Case studies

2016
