Electrostrictive limit in the detection of weak stimulated Raman signals in gases

0377-0486; It is shown experimentally that, in stimulated Raman spectroscopy, electrostriction induced by the pump laser gives rise to a non-resonant signal detected on the probe laser. DSC: software tool for simulation-based design of control strategies applied to wastewater treatment plants.

This paper presents a computer tool called DSC (Simulation based Controllers Design) that enables an easy design of control systems and strategies applied to wastewater treatment plants. Although the control systems are developed and evaluated by simulation, this tool aims to facilitate the direct implementation of the designed control system to the PC of the full-scale WWTP (wastewater treatment plants). The designed control system can be programmed in a dedicated control application and can be connected to either the simulation software or the SCADA of the plant. Application of the Morris method for screening the influential parameters of fuzzy controllers applied to wastewater treatment plants

In this paper,we evaluate the application of a sensitivity analysis to help fine-tuning a fuzzy controller for a biological nitrogen and phosphorus removal (BNPR) plant. TheMorris Screeningmethod is proposed and evaluated as a prior step to obtain the parameter significance ranking. First, an iterative procedure has been performed in order to find out the proper repetition number of the elementary effects (r) of the method. The optimal repetition number found in this study (r = 60) is in direct contrast to previous applications of the Morris method, which usually use low repetition number, e.g. r = 10 ~ 20. Cross-sublattice Spin Pumping and Magnon Level Attraction in van der Waals Antiferromagnets

We theoretically study spin pumping from a layered van der Waals antiferromagnet in its canted ground state into an adjacent normal metal. We find that the resulting dc spin pumping current bears contributions along all spin directions. Our analysis allows for detecting intra- and cross-sublattice spin-mixing conductances via measuring the two in-plane spin current components. We further show that sublattice symmetry-breaking Gilbert damping can be realized via interface engineering and induces a dissipative coupling between the optical and acoustic magnon modes. Spin Pumping and Torque Statistics in the Quantum Noise Limit

We analyze the statistics of charge and energy currents and spin torque in a metallic nanomagnet coupled to a large magnetic metal via a tunnel contact. We derive a Keldysh action for the tunnel barrier, describing the stochastic currents in the presence of a magnetization precessing with the rate $\Omega$. In contrast to some earlier approaches, we include the geometric phases that affect the counting statistics. Monitoring Electron-Photon Dressing in WSe 2

Optical pumping of solids creates a non-equilibrium electronic structure where electrons and photons combine to form quasiparticles of dressed electronic states. The resulting shift of electronic levels is known as the optical Stark effect, visible as a red shift in the optical spectrum. Here we show that in a pump-probe setup we can uniquely define a non-equilibrium quasiparticle bandstructure that can be directly measurable with photoelectron spectroscopy. Enhancing single-parameter quantum charge pumping in carbon-based devices

We present a theoretical study of quantum charge pumping with a single ac gate applied to graphene nanoribbons and carbon nanotubes operating with low resistance contacts. By combining Floquet theory with Green's function formalism, we show that the pumped current can be tuned and enhanced by up to two orders of magnitude by an appropriate choice of device length, gate voltage intensity and driving frequency and amplitude. These results offer a promising alternative for enhancing the pumped currents in these carbon-based devices.

Energy and spatial distribution of traps in SiO2/Al 2O3 nMOSFETs

The energy and spatial profiling of the interface and near-interface traps in n-channel MOSFETs with SiO2/Al2O3 gate dielectrics is investigated by charge-pumping (CP) measurements. By increasing the amplitude as well as lowering the frequency of the gate pulse, an increase of the charge recombined per cycle was observed, and it was explained by the contributions of additional traps located higher in energy and deeper in position at the SiO2/Al2O3 interface. In addition, CP currents, acquired after different constant voltage stress, have been used to investigate the trap generation in this dielectric stack. © 2006 IEEE.

Nonlinear Hanle effect in Cs vapor under strong laser excitation

We report results of a theoretical and experimental study of the ground state nonlinear Hanle effect under strong laser excitation. It is shown that besides the well-known zero-magnetic field suppression of absorption on F g = F→F e = F - 1 transitions caused by population trapping, an optical pumping induced enhanced absorption occurs on F g = F→F e = F + 1 transitions for small B-fields. The latter effect becomes more pronounced for high F values. The experiment with atomic vapor of Cs (D2 line, F g = 4) confirms an increase of the spectrally unresolved fluorescence yield at zero magnetic field and 600 mW/cm2 laser intensity by 9% or 42%, when excitation occurs with linearly or circularly…
