Exploring alternative hapten tethering sites for high-affinity anti-picoxystrobin antibody generation
2011
The relevance of the linker tethering site in haptens was investigated for antibody generation and immunoassay development. Three derivatives of the strobilurin fungicide picoxystrobin were synthesized with the same functionalized spacer arm located at three different positions. Protein conjugates of those haptens were employed as immunogens, and novel polyclonal antibodies were produced and characterized. All haptens afforded highly specific antibodies, but different affinities to the free analyte were observed among the obtained antisera. Next, competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays were studied in several formats, and site heterology was confirmed as an effective strategy for det…
Surface properties of iron-titania photocatalysts employed for 4-nitrophenol photodegradation in aqueous TiO2 dispersion
1994
Iron(III) doped specimens (0.01–5% atomic Fe ∶ Ti) have been prepared by impregnating polycrystalline “home prepared” TiO2 (mainly anatase) and have been studied for photocatalytic degradation of 4-nitrophenol in aqueous dispersions. Some structural and surface properties have been studied by X-ray diffraction, specific surface area and porosity measurements and FTIR monitoring of pyridine, ammonia and methanoic acid adsorption for surface acidity and basicity. Their surface properties were compared with a corresponding series of photocatalysts prepared by a coprecipitation method. Adsorption of pyridine and ammonia indicates the presence of surface acid Lewis sites, a low concentration of …
Simultaneous endo and exo Complex Formation of Pyridine[4]arene Dimers with Neutral and Anionic Guests
2017
The formation of complexes between hexafluorophosphate (PF6- ) and tetraisobutyloctahydroxypyridine[4]arene has been thoroughly studied in the gas phase (ESI-QTOF-MS, IM-MS, DFT calculations), in the solid state (X-ray crystallography), and in chloroform solution (1 H, 19 F, and DOSY NMR spectroscopy). In all states of matter, simultaneous endo complexation of solvent molecules and exo complexation of a PF6- anion within a pyridine[4]arene dimer was observed. While similar ternary complexes are often observed in the solid state, this is a unique example of such behavior in the gas phase.
Characterization of poly(4-vinylpyridine 1-oxide) by free-solution capillary electrophoresis and micellar electrokinetic chromatography
2008
The migration characteristics of poly(4-vinylpyridine 1-oxide) (PVP-NO) in phosphate buffers of acidic pH (20 mM H 3 PO 4 or NaH 2 PO 4 ) have been studied using both free-solution capillary electrophoresis (FSCE) and MEKC. To inhibit adsorption, 250 mM o-phosphoethanolamine (2-aminoethyl dihydrogen phosphate) was used. In FSCE, PVP-NO showed a narrow peak and a broader band, both having anionic behavior. These peak and band were attributed to the free and aggregated or micellized PVP-NO forms, respectively. According to surface tension measurements, the CMC of SDS in the BGE was 1.8 and 0.48 mM in the absence and in the presence of 1000 μpg/mL PVP-NO, respectively, and the association of t…
ESR and electrochemical studies of 2-acylpyridines and 6,6'-diacyl-2,2'-bipyridines.
2005
Abstract The ESR spectra of radicals obtained by electrolytic reduction of 2-acylpyridines and 6,6′-diacyl-2,2′-bipyridines were measured in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) and analyzed by quantum chemical calculations. The electrochemistry of these compounds was characterized using cyclic voltammetry, in DMSO solvent. The results showed a two step reduction mechanism, first wave was assigned to the generation of the correspondent free radical species, and the second wave was assigned to the dianion derivatives. AM1 and DFT calculations were performed to obtain the optimized geometries, theoretical hyperfine constants, and spin distributions, respectively. The theoretical results are in complete a…
CH-Directed Anion-π Interactions in the Crystals of Pentafluorobenzyl-Substituted Ammonium and Pyridinium Salts
2010
Simple pentafluorobenzyl-substituted ammonium and pyridinium salts with different anions can be easily obtained by treatment of the parent amine or pyridine with the respective pentafluorobenzyl halide. Hexafluorophosphate is introduced as the anion by salt metathesis. In the case of the ammonium salt 4, water co-crystallisation seems to suppress effective anion-pi interactions of bromide with the electron-deficient aromatic system, whereas with salts 5 and 6 such interactions are observed despite the presence of water. However, due to asymmetric hydrogen-bonding interactions with ammonium side chains, the anion of 5 is located close to the rim of the pentafluorophenyl group (eta(1) interac…
Polyfunctional recognition of pyridinedicarboxylate anions with macrocyclic polyamine receptors containing heteroaromatic groups.
2008
The interaction of the biologically relevant anions deriving from the six pyridinedicarboxylic acids (H2PDC) with two macrocyclic receptors containing a pentamine chain and a bipyridine (1) or a phenanthroline (2) moiety, as well as with the aliphatic analogue [21]aneN7 (3), was studied by means of spectroscopic methods (UV-vis, NMR) and potentiometric titrations affording the stability constants of the adducts formed. All three receptors form stable complexes with the substrates thanks to the formation of several salt bridges and hydrogen bond contacts, as observed in the crystal structure of the H8[3(2,6-PDC)4] x H2O x 0.5 EtOH solid compound. Additional pi-stacking interactions between t…
N-Propyl-N′-2-pyridylurea-modified silica as mixed-mode stationary phase with moderate weak anion exchange capacity and pH-dependent surface charge r…
2018
Herein, we present a novel silica-based stationary phase modified with N-propyl-N'-2-pyridylurea selector. Due to the weakly basic properties of the pyridine selector and the presence of residual silanols after selector immobilization, a zwitterionic surface with a pI observed at approximately pH 5.5 was measured by electrophoretic light scattering in pH-dependent ζ-potential determinations. The capability of the new N-propyl-N'-2-pyridylurea-modified silica to serve as mixed-mode stationary phase was investigated. For this purpose, it was characterized under RP and HILIC conditions using test mixtures. Subsequent classification of this stationary phase in comparison to in-house and commerc…
Effect of π-Electron Delocalization on Tautomeric Equilibria – Benzoannulated 2-Phenacylpyridines
2006
Most benzoannulated 2-methylpyridines react with phenyllithium and substituted alkyl benzoates to give the corresponding 2-phenacylpyridines. 3-Methylisoquinoline is transformed into 2-benzoyl-3-methyl-1-phenyl-1,2-dihydroisoquinoline under these conditions, but replacement of phenyllithium with lithium isopropylcyclohexylamide is effective for production of 3-phenacylisoquinolines. Except in the cases of some substituted 6-phenacylphenanthridines, tautomeric mixtures of benzoannulated 2-phenacylpyridines in chloroform solution always contain the ketimine forms.(Z)-2-(2-Hydroxy-2-phenylvinyl)pyridine (enolimine) forms also contribute if the pyridine ring is not benzoannulated or if such ann…
Electrochemistry and spectroelectrochemistry of bismanganese biscorroles dyads
2011
Three manganese biscorrole dyads were synthesized, physicochemically characterized and investigated as to their electrochemistry and spectroelectrochemistry in nonaqueous media. Each dyad contained the same two corroles linked in a face-to-face arrangement via one of the three different linking groups, 9,9-dimethylxanthene, anthracene or diphenylether, the exact nature of which determined the distance and possible interaction between the two metallomacrocycles. The initial compounds contained Mn ( III ) in their air stable form and were shown to exhibit two major redox processes, one being a Mn (III)/ Mn (IV) conversion and the other being either Mn ( III )/ Mn ( II ) or reduction at the c…
