Synthesis, crystal structure and magnetic properties of the Re(II) complexes NBu4[Re(NO)Br4(L)] (L = pyridine and diazine type ligands).

2013

Four novel Re(II) complexes of formula NBu4[Re(NO)Br4(L)] [NBu4(+) = tetra-n-butylammonium cation and L = pyridine (1), pyrazine (2), pyrimidine (3), pyridazine (4)] have been prepared by a substitution reaction involving NBu4[Re(NO)Br4(EtOH)] and L. Their crystal structures have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. They are all mononuclear complexes whose structure is made up of [Re(NO)Br4L](-) anions and NBu4(+) cations. Each Re(II) ion is six-coordinate with four bromide ligands, a linear nitrosyl group and one monodentate nitrogen donor L building a tetragonally distorted octahedral surrounding. The Re-Br bond distances cover a narrow range [2.5048(8)-2.5333(5) Å] and th…

A heteroleptic bis(tridentate)ruthenium(II) polypyridine complex with improved photophysical properties and integrated functionalizability.

2010

The synthesis and photophysical properties of a ruthenium(II) complex bearing an electron-accepting 2,2';6',2''-terpyridine ligand and an electron-donating N,N'-dimethyl-N,N'-dipyridin-2-ylpyridine-2,6-diamine (ddpd) ligand are presented. The heteroleptic complex is easily prepared isomerically pure and features intense low-energy metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (MLCT) absorption bands and intense room temperature (3)MLCT emission with a long (3)MLCT lifetime. The favorable photophysical properties are due to the strong ligand field imposed by the ddpd ligand.

Structural, Thermal, and Magnetic Study of Solvation Processes in Spin-Crossover [Fe(bpp)2][Cr(L)(ox)2]2·nH2O Complexes

2007

The influence of lattice water in the magnetic properties of spin-crossover [Fe(bpp)2]X2.nH2O salts [bpp = 2,6-bis(pyrazol-3-yl)pyridine] is well-documented. In most cases, it stabilizes the low-spin state compared to the anhydrous compound. In other cases, it is rather the contrary. Unraveling this mystery implies the study of the microscopic changes that accompany the loss of water. This might be difficult from an experimental point of view. Our strategy is to focus on some salts that undergo a nonreversible dehydration-hydration process without loss of crystallinity. By comparison of the structural and magnetic properties of original and rehydrated samples, several rules concerning the r…

Spin Crossover in a Series of Non-Hofmann-Type Fe(II) Coordination Polymers Based on [Hg(SeCN)3]− or [Hg(SeCN)4]2– Building Blocks

2021

Self-assembly of [Hg(SeCN)4]2- tetrahedral building blocks, iron(II) ions, and a series of bis-monodentate pyridyl-type bridging ligands has afforded the new heterobimetallic HgII-FeII coordination polymers {Fe[Hg(SeCN)3]2(4,4'-bipy)2}n (1), {Fe[Hg(SeCN)4](tvp)}n (2), {Fe[Hg(SeCN)3]2(4,4'-azpy)2}n (3), {Fe[Hg(SeCN)4](4,4'-azpy)(MeOH)}n (4), {Fe[Hg(SeCN)4](3,3'-bipy)}n (5) and {Fe[Hg(SeCN)4](3,3'-azpy)}n (6) (4,4-bipy = 4,4'-bipyridine, tvp = trans-1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene, 4,4'-azpy = 4,4'-azobispyridine, 3,3-bipy = 3,3'-bipyridine, 3,3'-azpy = 3,3'-azobispyridine). Single-crystal X-ray analyses show that compounds 1 and 3 display a two-dimensional robust sheet structure made up of infini…

The effect of tether groups on the spin states of iron(ii)/bis[2,6-di(pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine] complexes

2021

The synthesis of six 2,6-di(pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine derivatives bearing dithiolane or carboxylic acid tether groups is described: [2,6-di(pyrazol-1-yl)pyrid-4-yl]methyl (R)-lipoate (L1), 2-[(2,6-di(pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine)-4-carboxamido]ethyl (R)-lipoate (L2), 2-[(2,6-di(pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine)-4-carboxy]ethyl (R)-lipoate (L3), N-([2,6-di(pyrazol-1-yl)pyrid-4-ylsulfanyl]-2-aminoethyl (R)-lipoamide (L4), 2-[(2,6-di(pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine)-4-carboxamido]acetic acid (L5) and 2-[(2,6-di(pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine)-4-carboxamido]propionic acid (L6). The iron(ii) perchlorate complexes of all the new ligands exhibit gradual thermal spin-crossover (SCO) in the solid state above room temperature, except L4 who…

A New ZnIITweezer Pyridine-Naphthalene System - An Off-On-Off System Working in a Biological pH Window

2005

Their basic idea consisted of the connec-tion of an amine to a fluorophoric anthracene unit on oneside and to a pyridine moiety on the other. At acidic pHvalues the amino and the pyridine groups are protonatedand a photoinduced electron transfer (PET) occurs fromthe π-π* excited state of the anthracene to the protonatedpyridinium unit, leading to quenching of the fluorescence. However, at high pH values, where the amino group is notprotonated, PET alternatively takes place from the aminelone pair to the same excited state of the fluorophore, yield-ing the same inhibitory effect on the fluorescence. Betweenthese two pH values, there is a pH window where PET doesnot take place and fluorescence…

Temperature dependence of desolvation effects in hydrogen-bonded spin crossover complexes

2021

The synthesis, crystal structure and (photo)magnetic properties of the anhydrous spin crossover salt of formula [Fe(bpp)2](C6H8O4) (1) (bpp = 2,6-bis(pyrazol-3-yl)pyridine; C6H8O4 = adipate dianion), obtained by desolvation at 400 K of the original tetrahydrate in a single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SC–SC) transformation, are reported. This work offers a comparison between this compound and the previously reported hydrated material ([Fe(bpp)2](C6H8O4)·4H2O, 1·4H2O), highlighting the significance of the thermal conditions used in the dehydration-rehydration processes. In both compounds, a hydrogen-bonded network between iron(II) complexes and adipate anions is observed. The original tetrahyd…

Synthesis and characterization of diorganotin(IV) derivatives of 2-mercaptopyridine and crystal structure of diphenyl pyridine-2-thiolatochlorotin(IV)

1994

Diorganotin(IV) derivatives of 2-mercaptopyridine (HSPy), R2Sn(SPy)2, R2SnCl(SPy) (R = Me, iPr, nBu, tBu, Cy, Ph) and Cy2SnBr(SPy), were obtained from R2SnX2 (X = Cl, Br) and NaSPy. Ph2SnCl(SPy) crystals, as determined by singlecrystal X–ray diffraction, are monoclinic in the space group P21/n. Tin forms with the bidentate SPy ligand a four–membered chelate ring with a short NSnS bite angle of 64.8(1)° leading to a heavily distorted trigonal–bipyramidal environment about tin. Apical Cl–Sn–N angle = 156.1(1)° equatorial C–Sn–C angle = 121.9(2)°. From 119Sn Mossbauer and IR data, analogous structures are inferred for the other solid compounds R2SnX(SPy), and distorted octahedral molecular str…

Synthesis, Crystal Structure, Thermal Analysis and Magnetic Behavior of a Novel One‐Dimensional Polymeric Pyridinium Chlorocuprate( II ): (Hpy) 2 [Cu…

2003

A one-dimensional polymeric pyridinium chlorocuprate (HPy)2[Cu3Cl8(H2O)2], an intermediate between (HPy)CuCl3 and CuCl2·2H2O, has been synthesized and characterized by X-ray analysis [monoclinic, P21/c, a = 7.8950(10), b = 14.144(2), c = 9.921(10) A, β = 99.20(2)°]. The structure contains [Cu3Cl8(H2O)2]n2n− chains in which both square-pyramidal and octahedral CuII exist. The chains are composed of linked [Cu2Cl6]2− dimers and CuCl2(H2O)2 monomeric units. On being heated in the solid state the compound undergoes dehydration followed by dehydrohalogenation to produce a pyridine complex of CuII: [Cu3Py2Cl6]. Other compounds, (HPy)2[CuCl4], CuPyCl2 and CuPy2Cl2, also produce [Cu3Py2Cl6] as an i…
