Crystal structure of 4-{2-[4-(dimethylamino)phenyl]diazen-1-yl}-1-methylpyridinium iodide

2015

The molecular geometry of the ionic title compound, C14H17N4+·I−or DAZOP+·I−, is essentially featureless. Regarding the crystal structure, in addition to the obvious cation–anion Coulombic interactions, the packing is mostly directed by non-covalent interactions involving both ring systems, as well as the iodide anion. It consists of cationic molecules aligned along [101] and disposed in an antiparallel fashion while linked into π-bonded dimeric entities by a stacking contact involving symmetry-related phenyl rings, with a centroid–centroid distance of 3.468 (3) Å and a slippage of 0.951 Å. The dimers are, in addition, sustained by a number of C—H...I and I...π (I...centroid = 3.876 Å) inte…

2,2′-Bipyridin-1-ium hemioxalate oxalic acid monohydrate

2018

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C10H9N2 +·0.5C2O4 2−·C2H2O4·H2O, consists of a 2,2′-bipyridinium cation, half an oxalate dianion, one oxalic acid and one water molecule. One N atom in 2,2′-bipyridine is unprotonated, while the second is protonated and forms an N—H...O hydrogen bond. In the crystal, the anions are connected with surrounding acid molecules and water molecules by strong near-linear O—H...O hydrogen bonds. The water molecules are located between the anions and oxalic acids; their O atoms participate as donors and acceptors, respectively, in O—H...O hydrogen bonds, which form sheets arranged parallel to the ac plane.

Gene delivery agents possessing antiradical activity: self-assembling cationic amphiphilic 1,4-dihydropyridine derivatives

2013

Seventeen 1,4-dihydropyridine (1,4-DHP) amphiphiles including differently substituted pyridinium, pyrazinium, N-methyl piperidinium or N-methyl morpholinium moieties as the cationic head-group of the molecule have been designed and synthesised. 1,4-DHP amphiphiles have been earlier proposed as a promising tool for plasmid DNA (pDNA) delivery in vitro. In this work the ability of the 1,4-DHP amphiphiles to self-assemble, to bind pDNA and to transfer it into the cells as well as the cytotoxicity of 1,4-DHP amphiphiles–pDNA complexes was studied. Furthermore, antiradical activity (ARA) of the 1,4-DHP derivatives was determined. We have revealed that all new 1,4-DHP amphiphiles possessed self-a…

Optical and electrical properties of oriented thin films of oligomer containing betaine-type moiety in side chain

2005

Non-linear optical and electrical properties of polymer films obtained by dipole orientation of active units are reported. Novel polar oligomer with N-(indan-1,3-dion-2-yl)pyridinium betaine (IPB) as a side group is studied. Orientation of polar groups in oligomer thin films causes an increase of the photo-induced change of surface potential on irradiation in the region of photo-induced electron transfer (PIET) where the IPB group exhibits a reversible change of the value and sign of the dipole moment. At longer wavelengths, the value of the surface potential of the oligomer may be determined by transport of photogenerated charge carriers.

6-Amino-2-(pivaloylamino)pyridinium benzoate

2013

In the crystal structure of the title salt, C10H16N3O+·C7H5O2−, the cations and anions are linked to each other via N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming infinite chains running along [010]. The crystal structure also features C—H⋯O and π–π stacking interactions, which assemble the chains into supramolecular layers parallel to (100). The π–π stacking interactions are observed between the pyridine rings of inversion-related cations with a centroid–centroid distance of 3.867 (2) Å. Validation of ATP bioluminescence as a tool to assess antimicrobial effects of mouthrinses in an in vitro subgingival-biofilm model

2012

Objectives. The aim of this investigation was to evaluate whether the adenosine triphosphate (ATP) bioluminescence method is an appropriate tool to assess the efficacy of antiseptic mouthrinses in terms of quantitative reductions of total viable microbial counts in mixed biofilm populations in vitro. Study Design. Three mouthrinses, containing respectively, chlorhexidine and cetylpyridinium chloride (CHX/CPC), essential oils (EO) and amine fluoride/stannous fluoride (AFSF), as well as Phosphate Buffered Saline (PBS) used as control, were tested in an in vitro static biofilm model by ATP bioluminescence and compared to culture method. Biofilms were grown on saliva-coated hydroxyapatite disks…

1,1prime-Binaphthyl-2-methylpyridinium-based peroxophosphotungstate salts: synthesis, characterization, and their use as oxidation catalysts

2009

A series of 1,1′-binaphthyl-2-methylammonium and pyridinium salts 6, 7, and 8 was synthesized through the coupling reaction of 2-(bromomethyl)-1,1′-binaphthalene (5) with the dendritic tetraallyl pyridinedicarbinol dendron 2 as well as triethylamine and 4-tert-butylpyridine. Tetraallyl pyridinedicarbinol dendron 2 was prepared by allylation of commercially available diethyl pyridine-3,5-dicarboxylate (1). The allylation of 2 with allyltrimethylsilane in the presence of boron trifluoride was unsuccessful, as tetraallyl pyridinedicarbinol trifluoroboron adduct 3 was obtained instead of expected hexaallylpyridine compound 4. The catalytic hydrogenation of allyl groups of the ammonium salt of 2…
