Mathematical Morphology for Color Images: An Image-Dependent Approach

2012

This paper proposes one possibility to generalize the morphological operations (particularly, dilation, erosion, opening, and closing) to color images. First, properties of a desirable generalization are stated and a brief review is done on former approaches. Then, the method is explained, which is based on a total ordering of the colors in an image induced by its color histogram; this is valid for just one image and may present problems in smoothly coloured images. To solve these drawbacks a refinement consisting of smoothing the histogram and using a joint histogram of several images is presented. Results of applying the so-defined morphological operations on several sets of images are sh…

Existence, uniqueness and comparison results for BSDEs with Lévy jumps in an extended monotonic generator setting

2018

We show existence of a unique solution and a comparison theorem for a one-dimensional backward stochastic differential equation with jumps that emerge from a L\'evy process. The considered generators obey a time-dependent extended monotonicity condition in the y-variable and have linear time-dependent growth. Within this setting, the results generalize those of Royer (2006), Yin and Mao (2008) and, in the $L^2$-case with linear growth, those of Kruse and Popier (2016). Moreover, we introduce an approximation technique: Given a BSDE driven by Brownian motion and Poisson random measure, we consider BSDEs where the Poisson random measure admits only jumps of size larger than $1/n$. We show con…

Variational differential inclusions without ellipticity condition

2020

The paper sets forth a new type of variational problem without any ellipticity or monotonicity condition. A prototype is a differential inclusion whose driving operator is the competing weighted $(p,q)$-Laplacian $-\Delta_p u+\mu\Delta_q u$ with $\mu\in \mathbb{R}$. Local and nonlocal boundary value problems fitting into this nonstandard setting are examined.

Software Architectures for Human-Machine Interaction Using Natural Language

A Computational Technique for Solving Singularly Perturbed Delay Partial Differential Equations

2021

Abstract In this work, a matrix method based on Laguerre series to solve singularly perturbed second order delay parabolic convection-diffusion and reaction-diffusion type problems involving boundary and initial conditions is introduced. The approximate solution of the problem is obtained by truncated Laguerre series. Moreover convergence analysis is introduced and stability is explained. Besides, a test case is given and the error analysis is considered by the different norms in order to show the applicability of the method.

A VR-Enhanced Rollover Car Simulator and Edutainment Application for Increasing Seat Belt Use Awareness

2021

Most countries have active road safety policies that seek the objective of reducing deaths in traffic accidents. One of the main factors in this regard is the awareness of the safety measures, one of the most important being the correct usage of the seat belt, a device that is known to save thousands of lives every year. The presented work shows a VR-enhanced edutainment application designed to increase awareness on the use of seat belts. For this goal, a motorized rollover system was developed that, synchronized with a VR application (shown in a head-mounted display for each user inside a real car), rolls over this car with up to four passengers inside. This way, users feel the sensations …

Robust entanglement preparation against noise by controlling spatial indistinguishability

2019

Initialization of composite quantum systems into highly entangled states is usually a must to allow their use for quantum technologies. However, the presence of unavoidable noise in the preparation stage makes the system state mixed, thus limiting the possibility of achieving this goal. Here we address this problem in the context of identical particle systems. We define the entanglement of formation for an arbitrary state of two identical qubits within the operational framework of spatially localized operations and classical communication (sLOCC). We then introduce an entropic measure of spatial indistinguishability under sLOCC as an information resource. We show that spatial indistinguisha…

Energy-efficient quantum computing

2016

In the near future, a major challenge in quantum computing is to scale up robust qubit prototypes to practical problem sizes and to implement comprehensive error correction for computational precision. Due to inevitable quantum uncertainties in resonant control pulses, increasing the precision of quantum gates comes with the expense of increased energy consumption. Consequently, the power dissipated in the vicinity of the processor in a well-working large-scale quantum computer seems unacceptably large in typical systems requiring low operation temperatures. Here, we introduce a method for qubit driving and show that it serves to decrease the single-qubit gate error without increasing the a…

Acoustic spectral hole-burning in a two-level system ensemble

2020

AbstractMicroscopic two-level system (TLS) defects at dielectric surfaces and interfaces are among the dominant sources of loss in superconducting quantum circuits, and their properties have been extensively probed using superconducting resonators and qubits. We report on spectroscopy of TLSs coupling to the strain field in a surface acoustic wave (SAW) resonator. The narrow free spectral range of the resonator allows for two-tone spectroscopy where a strong pump is applied at one resonance, while a weak signal is used to probe a different mode. We map the spectral hole burnt by the pump tone as a function of frequency and extract parameters of the TLS ensemble. Our results suggest that det…

Finite-Time Distributed Energy-to-Peak Control for Uncertain Multiagent Systems

2014

Published version of an article in the journal: Abstract and Applied Analysis. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2014/260201 Open Access This paper investigates the finite-time distributed L2-L∞ consensus control problem of multiagent systems with parameter uncertainties. The relative states of neighboring agents are used to construct the control law and some agents know their own states. By substituting the control input into multiagent systems, an augmented closed-loop system is obtained. Then, we analyze its finite-time boundedness (FTB) and finite-time L2-L∞ performance. A sufficient condition for the existence of the designed controller is given with the f…
