A penalized approach to covariate selection through quantile regression coefficient models
2019
The coefficients of a quantile regression model are one-to-one functions of the order of the quantile. In standard quantile regression (QR), different quantiles are estimated one at a time. Another possibility is to model the coefficient functions parametrically, an approach that is referred to as quantile regression coefficients modeling (QRCM). Compared with standard QR, the QRCM approach facilitates estimation, inference and interpretation of the results, and generates more efficient estimators. We designed a penalized method that can address the selection of covariates in this particular modelling framework. Unlike standard penalized quantile regression estimators, in which model selec…
Parametric estimation of non-crossing quantile functions
2021
Quantile regression (QR) has gained popularity during the last decades, and is now considered a standard method by applied statisticians and practitioners in various fields. In this work, we applied QR to investigate climate change by analysing historical temperatures in the Arctic Circle. This approach proved very flexible and allowed to investigate the tails of the distribution, that correspond to extreme events. The presence of quantile crossing, however, prevented using the fitted model for prediction and extrapolation. In search of a possible solution, we first considered a different version of QR, in which the QR coefficients were described by parametric functions. This alleviated th…
Proyecto Quick Natura. Tecnologías móviles aplicadas a rutas botánicas urbanas
2017
[EN] The Quick Natura project aims to approach people of the city of Valencia to the green areas around them,in a fast and pleasant way. The initiative is based on the use of new technologies to connect the physicalwith the virtual world by placing QR codes (Quick Response code) on di erent plant species, located mainlyin gardens and parks to display information about each labelled species. Any user can scan the QR codelocated in labelled plants by using a smartphone or other mobile devices, enabling almost immediate accessto an information layer displayed in an enjoyable way, without using very technical language, facilitatinga quick understanding and assimilation by users. The method allo…
Blokķēdes tehnoloģija un tās pielietošanas iespējas pārtikas nozarē
2018
The results of the vine varieties reconversion measures in the North-Eastern Romania / Résultats de la mesure de reconversion des cépages dans le Nor…
2016
The vine varieties reconversion measure is one of the many benefits that the Romania's integration to the European Union brings to the wine sector. This study aims to analyze the results of this measure during 2007–2015 in the Romania's North-East Region. From the Vineyard Plantation Register, the plots noble vine parcels of each department were divided into two groups: those who existed in the field in before and those converted during the period. The surface of each group was classified first, based on the color of the grapes and secondarily, based on the pair international varieties – non international varieties. The conversion affected 3 of 6 departments. In Iasi, where the proportion o…
Vitamin D Sources, Metabolism, and Deficiency: Available Compounds and Guidelines for Its Treatment
2021
Studies on vitamin/hormone D deficiency have received a vast amount of attention in recent years, particularly concerning recommendations, guidelines, and treatments. Moreover, vitamin D’s role as a hormone has been confirmed in various enzymatic, metabolic, physiological, and pathophysiological processes related to many organs and systems in the human body. This growing interest is mostly due to the evidence that modest-to-severe vitamin D deficiency is widely prevalent around the world. There is broad agreement that optimal vitamin D status is necessary for bones, muscles, and one’s general health, as well as for the efficacy of antiresorptive and anabolic bone-forming treatments. Food su…
Automatic detection of P, QRS and T patterns in 12 leads ECG signal based on CWT
2016
International audience; In this paper, a new method based on the continuous wavelet transform is described in order to detect the QRS, P and T waves. QRS, P and T waves may be distinguished from noise, baseline drift or irregular heartbeats. The algorithm, described in this paper, has been evaluated using the Computers in Cardiology (CinC) Challenge 2011 database and also applied on the MIT-BIH Arrhythmia database (MITDB). The data from the CinC Challenge 2011 are standard 12 ECG leads recordings with full diagnostic bandwidth compared to the MITDB which only includes two leads for each ECG signal. Firstly, our algorithm is validated using fifty 12 leads ECG samples from the CinC collection…
The Influence of the feedback control of the hexapod platform of the SAAM dynamic driving simulator on neuromuscular dynamics of the drivers
2012
Multi sensorial cues (visual, auditory, haptic, inertial, vestibular, neuromuscular) [Ang2] play important roles to represent a proper sensation (objectively) and so a perception (subjectively as cognition) in driving simulators. Driving simulator aims at giving the sensation of driving as in a real case. For a similar situation, the driver has to react in the same way as in reality in terms of ‘self motion’. To enable this behavior, the driving simulator must enhance the virtual immersion of the subject in the driving situation. The subject has to perceive the motion of his own body in the virtual scene of the virtual car as he will have in a real car. For that reason, restituting the iner…
