Ultraviolet optical properties of silica controlled by hydrogen trapping at Ge-related defects

We studied the effects induced by the ultraviolet-laser and -lamp exposure sequences on the twofold coordinated germanium (=Ge{sup {center_dot}}{sup {center_dot}}) and the H(II) center (=Ge{sup {center_dot}}-H) in silica. The H(II) centers, generated after the first laser irradiation stage by the trapping of atomic hydrogen H{sup 0} at the (=Ge{sup {center_dot}}{sup {center_dot}}), are destroyed by the subsequent lamp exposure with efficiency depending on photon energy. The human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) replicates to high titers in primary human fibroblast cell cultures. A variety of primary human cells and some tumor-derived cell lines do also support permissive HCMV replication, yet at low levels. Cell lines established by transfection of the transforming functions of adenoviruses have been notoriously resistant to HCMV replication and progeny production. Membrane computing is a bio-inspired computing paradigm whose devices are the so-called membrane systems or P systems. The P system designed in this work reproduces complex biological landscapes in the computer world. It uses nested “membrane-surrounded entities” able to divide, propagate, and die; to be transferred into other membranes; to exchange informative material according to flexible rules; and to mutate and be selected by external agents. Polycationic Monomeric and Homodimeric Asymmetric Monomethine Cyanine Dyes with Hydroxypropyl Functionality—Strong Affinity Nucleic Acids Binders

New analogs of the commercial asymmetric monomethine cyanine dyes thiazole orange (TO) and thiazole orange homodimer (TOTO) with hydroxypropyl functionality were synthesized and their properties in the presence of different nucleic acids were studied. The novel compounds showed strong, micromolar and submicromolar affinities to all examined DNA ds-polynucleotides and poly rA–poly rU. The compounds studied showed selectivity towards GC-DNA base pairs over AT-DNA, which included both binding affinity and a strong fluorescence response. Bakalaura darbs tika veikts saskaņā ar projekta “Latvijas upju baseinu apsaimniekošanas plānu ieviešana laba virszemes ūdens stāvokļa sasniegšanai” (LIFE GoodWater IP, 23 Nr. LIFE18IPE/LV/000014) ietvaros. Pētījuma mērķis bija izvērtēt Saukas ezera ekoloģisko stāvokli 2020. un 2021. gada vasarā pēc fitoplanktona kvantitatīvajiem un kvalitatīvajiem rādītājiem. 2020. gada fitoplanktona paraugos Saukas ezerā tika konstatētās 84 fitoplanktona sugas no septiņiem aļģu nodalījumiem. Impact of leptospermone, a β-triketone bioherbicide, was investigated on the fungal community which supports important soil ecological functions such as decomposition of organic matter and nutrients recycling. This study was done in a microcosm experiment using two French soils, Perpignan (P) and Saint-Jean-de-Fos (SJF), differing in their physicochemical properties and history treatment with synthetic β-triketones. Soil microcosms were treated with leptospermone at recommended dose and incubated under controlled conditions for 45 days. Untreated microcosms were used as control.
