Laser spectroscopy of radioactive isotopes
1987
The experimental conditions for laser spectroscopy of shortlived isotopes is discussed with respect to nuclear lifetime, reaction rates and samples preparation by on-line mass-separator techniques. The method of collinear laser spectroscopy is presented with results for medium mass elements near the closed proton shell Z=50. An interpretation of magnetic moments, spectroscopic quadrupole moments and the parabolic shape of the isotope shift in this region of nuclei is given.
Development of economic MeV-ion microbeam technology at Chiang Mai University
2017
Abstract Developing high technologies but in economic manners is necessary and also feasible for developing countries. At Chiang Mai University, Thailand, we have developed MeV-ion microbeam technology based on a 1.7-MV Tandetron tandem accelerator with our limited resources in a cost-effective manner. Instead of using expensive and technically complex electrostatic or magnetic quadrupole focusing lens systems, we have developed cheap MeV-ion microbeams using programmed L-shaped blade aperture and capillary techniques for MeV ion beam lithography or writing and mapping. The programmed L-shaped blade micro-aperture system consists of a pair of L-shaped movable aperture pieces which are contr…
Onset of deformation in neutron-rich krypton isotopes
1988
Beta-decay properties of neutron-rich35Br isotopes confirm the predicted smooth onset of quadrupole deformation for Z<37 already below N=60. The observed increase of the energy of the first 2+ state in the N=56 nucleus92Kr may indicate octupole softness.
Electric hyperfine interaction in199Hg fluorides
1985
With the current integration technique, the Mossbauer effect on the 158 keV, 5/2−→1/2− transition in199Hg was studied using the cubic HgF2 and the tetragonal Hg2F2 as absorbers; in the latter, a quadrupole splittingeQVzz=}- 9.0(2) mm/s was observed. Electron densities were calculated with the self-consistent-charge-extended-Hueckel-molecular-orbital method and δ〈r2〉=(3.26±0.11) fm2 derived. From the quadrupole splitting and the calculation, an effective antishielding factor almost twice that of the neutral Hg atom is derived.
Weak quadrupole moments
2017
Collective effects in deformed atomic nuclei present possible avenues of study on the non-spherical distribution of neutrons and the violation of the local Lorentz invariance. We introduce the weak quadrupole moment of nuclei, related to the quadrupole distribution of the weak charge in the nucleus. The weak quadrupole moment produces tensor weak interaction between the nucleus and electrons and can be observed in atomic and molecular experiments measuring parity nonconservation. The dominating contribution to the weak quadrupole is given by the quadrupole moment of the neutron distribution, therefore, corresponding experiments should allow one to measure the neutron quadrupoles. Using the …

Relativistic Energy Density Functional Description of Shape Transition in Superheavy Nuclei
2012
Relativistic energy density functionals (REDF) provide a complete and accurate, global description of nuclear structure phenomena. A modern semi-empirical functional, adjusted to the nuclear matter equation of state and to empirical masses of deformed nuclei, is applied to studies of shapes of superheavy nuclei. The theoretical framework is tested in a comparison of calculated masses, quadrupole deformations, and potential energy barriers to available data on actinide isotopes. Self-consistent mean-field calculations predict a variety of spherical, axial and triaxial shapes of long-lived superheavy nuclei, and their alpha-decay energies and half-lives are compared to data. A microscopic, RE…
Structure of transactinide nuclei with relativistic energy density functionals
2013
A microscopic theoretical framework based on relativistic energy density functionals (REDFs) is applied to studies of shape evolution, excitation spectra, and decay properties of transactinide nuclei. Axially symmetric and triaxial relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (RHB) calculations, based on the functional DD-PC1 and with a separable pairing interaction, are performed for the even-even isotopic chains between Fm and Fl. The occurrence of a deformed shell gap at neutron number $N=162$ and its role on the stability of nuclei in the region around $Z=108$ is investigated. A quadrupole collective Hamiltonian, with parameters determined by self-consistent constrained triaxial RHB calculations, is…
Electromagnetic moments of scandium isotopes and $N=28$ isotones in the distinctive $0f_{7/2}$ orbit
2022
The electric quadrupole moment of $^{49}$Sc was measured by collinear laser spectroscopy at CERN-ISOLDE to be $Q_{\rm s}=-0.159(8)$ $e$b, and a nearly tenfold improvement in precision was reached for the electromagnetic moments of $^{47,49}$Sc. The single-particle behavior and nucleon-nucleon correlations are investigated with the electromagnetic moments of $Z=21$ isotopes and $N=28$ isotones as valence neutrons and protons fill the distinctive $0f_{7/2}$ orbit, respectively, located between magic numbers, 20 and 28. The experimental data are interpreted with shell-model calculations using an effective interaction, and ab-initio valence-space in-medium similarity renormalization group calcu…
Measurements of the trilinear gauge boson couplings WWV (V = $\gamma$ Z) in e$^+$e$^-$ collisions at 183 GeV
1999
Measurements of the trilinear gauge boson couplings WWγ and WWZ are presented from data taken by DELPHI in 1997 at an energy of 183 GeV. From a study of the reactions e + e − → W + W − , e + e − → Weν and e + e − → ννγ , values are obtained for Δg 1 Z and Δκ γ , the differences of the WWZ charge coupling and of the WWγ dipole couplings from their Standard Model values, and for λ γ , the WWγ quadrupole coupling. The observations are consistent with the predictions of the Standard Model. (Elsevier)
