External-ion accumulation in a Penning trap with quadrupole excitation assisted buffer gas cooling
1994
Abstract A pulsed ion beam from an external source is injected into a Penning trap and accumulated by repeatedly lowering during ion capture to prevent the ions already captured from escaping. For the same reason the newly captured ions have to be cooled, which achieved by buffer gas collisions. To prevent radial on loss, the ions are exposed to azimuthal quadrupole excitation. By choosing the appropriate frequency (range) this method (selective quadrupole excitation assisted capture and centering (SQUEACE) allows a mass selection during the capture process and leads to a centering of those ions in the Penning trap. The multiple ion bunch capture results in a significant improvement in sign…
Measurement of theE2/M1Ratio in theN→ΔTransition Using the Reactionp(γ→,p)π0[Phys. Rev. Lett. 78, 606 (1997)]
1997
The small electric quadrupole $E2$ amplitude of the predominantly magnetic dipole $M1$ $p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\Delta}(1232)$ transition has been measured using 270 to 420 MeV tagged linearly polarized photons in the $p(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{\ensuremath{\gamma}},p){\ensuremath{\pi}}^{o}$ reaction at the Mainz Microtron MAMI. Differential cross sections and photon asymmetries were determined by measuring the recoil proton in the cylindrically symmetric $4\ensuremath{\pi}$ detector DAPHNE. From the proton angular distributions the ratio $E2/M1\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}\ensuremath{-}(2.5\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.2\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\…
Dynamics of hyaluronan aqueous solutions as assessed by fast field cycling NMR relaxometry.
2010
Fast field cycling (FFC) NMR relaxometry has been used to study the conformational properties of aqueous solutions of hyaluronan (HYA) at three concentrations in the range 10 to 25 mg mL(-1). Results revealed that, irrespective of the solution concentration, three different hydration layers surround hyaluronan. The inner layer consists of water molecules strongly retained in the proximity of the HYA surface. Because of their strong interactions with HYA, water molecules in this inner hydration layer are subject to very slow dynamics and have the largest correlation times. The other two hydration layers are made of water molecules which are located progressively further from the HYA surface.…
The hyperfine structure in the rotational spectra of D2(17)O and HD(17)O: Confirmation of the absolute nuclear magnetic shielding scale for oxygen
2015
Guided by theoretical predictions, the hyperfine structures of the rotational spectra of mono- and bideuterated-water containing (17)O have been experimentally investigated. To reach sub-Doppler resolution, required to resolve the hyperfine structure due to deuterium quadrupole coupling as well as to spin-rotation (SR) and dipolar spin-spin couplings, the Lamb-dip technique has been employed. The experimental investigation and in particular, the spectral analysis have been supported by high-level quantum-chemical computations employing coupled-cluster techniques and, for the first time, a complete experimental determination of the hyperfine parameters involved was possible. The experimental…
Fayans functional for deformed nuclei. Uranium region
2016
Fayans energy density functional (EDF) FaNDF^0 has been applied to the nuclei around uranium region. Ground state characteristics of the Th, U and Pu isotopic chains, up to the two-neutron drip line, are found and compared with predictions from several Skyrme EDFs. The two-neutron drip line is found for FaNDF^0, SLy4 and SkM^* EDFs for a set of elements with even proton number, from Pb up to Fm.
Sequential window acquisition of all theoretical fragments versus information dependent acquisition for suspected-screening of pharmaceuticals in sed…
2019
The aquatic ecosystems are dynamic environments often affected directly or indirectly by a myriad of anthropogenic contaminants that need to be properly identified. In this study, liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-QqTOF-MS) suspected-screening was applied to mussels and riverine sediment both, non-spiked and spiked with a mixture of 32 pharmaceuticals. Three data acquisition methods –sequential window acquisition of all theoretical fragment-ion spectra (SWATH), in fix (FSWATH) and variable (VSWATH) window modes and Information Dependent Acquisition (IDA)– were compared to determine the most suitable acquisition technique. The results obtained in the spike…
Cluster isobars for high-precision mass spectrometry
1991
Doublet mass measurements of the isobars28Si3 and12C7 are performed by use of a Penning trap mass spectrometer and the Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR). The carbon and silicon cluster ions are produced by laser ablation. Results of these preliminary measurements are presented.
Routine application using single quadrupole liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry to pesticides analysis in citrus fruits.
2005
Abstract A rapid and sensitive liquid chromatography–electrospray ionization–mass spectrometry method has been developed for the routine analysis of buprofezin, bupirimate, hexaflumuron, tebufenpyrad, fluvalinate and pyriproxyfen in citrus fruits. Extracts were obtained by matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) using C 18 as dispersant and dichloromethane-methanol (80:20, v/v) as eluent. Matrix effects were tested for all matrices by addition of standard to sample blank extracts (samples containing no detectable residues). Mean recoveries obtained at fortification levels between 0.01 and 5 mg kg −1 were 57–97% with relative standard deviations (RSDs) from 5 to 19%. The limits of quantificatio…
Comparison of four mass analyzers for determining carbosulfan and its metabolites in citrus by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry
2006
Four liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) systems, equipped with single quadrupole, triple quadrupole (QqQ), quadrupole ion trap (QIT) and quadrupole time-of-flight (QqTOF) mass analyzers, were evaluated for the analysis of carbosulfan and its main transformation products. The comparison of quantitative aspects (sensitivity, precision and accuracy) was emphasized. Results showed that the triple quadrupole instrument reaches at least 20-fold higher sensitivity (LOD from 0.04 to 0.4 microg kg(-1)) compared to the single quadrupole (4-70 microg kg(-1)), the QIT (4-25 microg kg(-1)) and the QqTOF (4-23 microg kg(-1)) instruments. Recoveries were over 70% for all the analytes, except …
Laser spectroscopy studies on nobelium
2017
Laser spectroscopy of the heaviest elements provides high-precision data on their atomic and nuclear properties. For example, atomic level energies and ionization potentials allow us to probe the influence of relativistic effects on their atomic structure and to benchmark state-of-the-art atomic structure calculations. In addition, it offers an alternative route to determine nuclear properties like spins, magnetic moments and quadrupole moments in a nuclear model-independent way. Recently, a sensitive method based on resonant laser ionization has been applied to nobelium isotopes around N = 152 at GSI Darmstadt. In pioneering experiments, several atomic states have been identified extending…
