Chemical speciation of organic matter in natural waters. Interaction of nucleotide 5′ mono-, di- and triphosphates with major components of seawater
2004
AbstractThe interactions of nucleotide 5’ mono-, di- and triphosphates in a multicomponent ionic medium simulating the macro-composition of seawater (Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl-, SO42-, Synthetic Sea Water, SSW) have been investigated at different ionic strengths and at T= 25°C. A chemical speciation model, according to which all the internal interactions between the components of the ionic medium are taken into account, was applied to determine the effective formation constants of species in the nucleotide-seawater system. The results were compared to protonation parameters calculated from single electrolyte systems. A simpler model (SSW considered as a single salt BA, with Bz+ and Az-), repr…
Different kinds of solid solutions in the V2O5-ZrSiO4-NaF system by sol-gel processes and their characterization
1993
Abstract In the V2O5-ZrSiO4-NaF system, three kinds of substances have been identified by sol-gel methods depending on the V2O5 amounts in the composition. Their characterization by X-ray diffraction, measurements of unit cell parameters, UV-visible (UV-V) spectroscopy, differential thermal analysis and lab colour parameter determination allow the consideration of three kinds of solid solution in the zircon lattice: (a) V+5,V+4-ZrSiO4, thermally stable and with a deep green colour; (b) V+4-ZrSiO4, thermally stable and blue coloured, made by the sol-gel method and with V2O5 amounts lower than 0·03 mol per formula weight; and (c) Na+,F−,V+4-ZrSiO4, a solid solution with a deep blue-turquoise …
Highly cited educational technology journal articles: A descriptive and critical analysis
2022
Citations are valuable capital in the academy as the number of citations is the most frequently used indicator in evaluating the quality of papers, journals, researchers, and universities. Thus, the characteristics of highly cited articles (HCA) have become a common research topic but the approach has been mainly descriptive with no profound critical reflection of what kind of research is cited, where the research is from, where the research is published, and what do these things mean for edtech research. This paper contributes to this need by providing a descriptive and critical analysis of 200 highly cited articles from 10 edtech journals. To summarize the key findings, a ‘typical’ edtech…

Consumer Information Services in Intercultural Tourism : An Ethnographic Study of Chinese Outbound Backpackers
2017
This paper reports the findings of an ethnographic study of Chinese outbound backpackers’ use and adoption of consumer information services (CIS) in an intercultural tourism setting. We apply McKenna et al.’s research model of consumers’ adoption of information services as the analytical lens for the interpretive qualitative study. The data gathering was conducted in four different countries. The findings of the study confirm linkages between four information service types and the use and adoption of CIS. The study also found that service types are more diversely linked than the earlier studies have predicted and therefore we propose a revised research model, which can be used for studying …
Culture and kultur - what is the difference, or is there any? : a comparative analysis of cultural content in English and Swedish textbook series for…
2012
OPS:n suuntaviivoja noudattavia kielten oppikirjoja kohtaan on täten muodostunut uusia odotuksia: niiden oletetaan tukevan myös oppilaiden kulttuurien välisen kompetenssin kehittymistä. Koska oppikirjoill…
Shared Situational Awareness in a Professional Soccer Team: An Explorative Analysis of Post-Performance Interviews
2020
Sport science research has done little to elaborate on the cognitive factors that turn a collection of individual players into a coordinated elite team. The purpose of this paper is to clarify if the players and coach of an elite soccer team express shared situational awareness. Ten players and one coach were exposed to twelve video pictures from a previous soccer match, and their statements for each picture were recorded and analyzed using a qualitative approach. Two of five game situations were with ball possession and three out of seven were without ball possession

Facing the Normative Challenges : The Potential of Reflexive Historical Research
2016
This article explores methodological problems of qualitative research templates, that is, the Eisenhardt and the Gioia case study approaches, which are relevant for the business and society (B&S) scholarship and outlines a reflexive historical research methodology that has the potential to face these challenges. Building on Hans-Georg Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics, we draw critical attention to qualitative B&S research and frame the methodological problems identified as the normative challenges of qualitative research, that is, to productively deal with both the researchers’ norms and the research subjects’ norms. We then introduce the reflexive historical case study (RHCS), …
Metaphoric Conceptualization of Social Reality in the Language of News Media
2021
Today, social reality can hardly be viewed as the one-state-one-nationone language ideological framework (Bauman and Briggs, 2003). The modern multilingual and multicultural communities are inclined to examine social reality in a multiple variety of socio-economic and political manifestations and forms. To understand how social reality can be explored through examining certain socio-political processes in a country, the present paper aims at analysing the role of conceptual metaphor in cases when political scandals, involving corruption charges of high-ranking officials in Latvia are considered. For this purpose, the present study has focused on the analysis of selected commentaries that de…
