Attitudes and motivation in the treatment of IPV : a case study of two intimately violent men
2017
This case study used qualitative content analysis to examine the cases of two intimately violent men. Both participated in a group intervention but experienced dramatically different outcomes. In the case of "Henri", the intervention was especially successful, but in the case of "Mikael" it was unsuccessful. The data of this study consisted of the video tapes of the men’s therapy sessions, and of the interviews of their spouses. The research questions were the following: 1) Were there changes in the men’s attitudes toward a) women, b) masculinity and c) violent behavior?, 2) How high was the men’s motivation for treatment and making changes in themselves? and 3) Did their attitudes and moti…
Unveiling Barriers and Enablers of Risk Management in Interoperability Efforts
2014
eGovernment efforts are, as general IS efforts, associated with considerable risk. As eGovernment matures and interoperability becomes more ingrained in eGovernment efforts, it will be interesting to explore how the increased complexity affects risk. Still, research on risk management in the context of eGovernment is sparse and our understanding of the phenomenon equally so. This qualitative study investigates risk management in the Norwegian public sector. Based on 11 interviews with experts from nine public organizations, we identified six barriers and eight enablers to risk management in eGovernment settings. Our findings suggest that interoperability has important implications for how r…
La Educación Física Escolar en Tres Centros Educativos de Chile: una Caracterización de sus Prácticas Docentes
2016
Physical Education (PE) generally, and Chilean one, specifically, is in the middle of an identity crisis. There is a vision of the body as a production object. This vision has been generated in the light of social Darwinism, and at the same time there are other more conciliatory and global approaches. This investigation tries, with a holistic approach based on participating observation, to look into the practices carried out in relation to PE in schools in the Chilean context. The main conclusion from the analysis carried out is that in schools, PE is mainly focused on “doing” and on the production of results that can later on be assessed with objectivity. This means that schools are still …
Il Paradigma della Città Fluida
2013
Randomized pilot study and qualitative evaluation of a clinical decision support system for brain tumour diagnosis based on SV 1H MRS: Evaluation as …
2014
The results of a randomized pilot study and qualitative evaluation of the clinical decision support system Curiam BT are reported. We evaluated the system's feasibility and potential value as a radiological information procedure complementary to magnetic resonance (MR) imaging to assist novice radiologists in diagnosing brain tumours using MR spectroscopy (1.5 and 3.0T). Fifty-five cases were analysed at three hospitals according to four non-exclusive diagnostic questions. Our results show that Curiam BT improved the diagnostic accuracy in all the four questions. Additionally, we discuss the findings of the users' feedback about the system, and the further work to optimize it for real envir…
How Did I Become a Good Teacher? Implications for Teacher Education
2017
Abstract The professional standards for teachers provide the competences needed for this occupation, in function of the level of education and of the career stages. This study aims to discover the most important training factors which contribute to the acquisition of teacher competences and to establish the implications for teacher education. We have used a mixed-method design as the procedure for collecting, analyzing, and combining both quantitative and qualitative data. To detect the main agents in the teacher competences’ achievement, we applied a questionnaire and we asked the personal opinion of the teachers regarding their evolution in the career. The findings indicated that the prin…
Social Affordances for People with Lifelong Disability through Using Virtual Worlds
2013
In the information age, information and communication technology (ICT) is an asset for supporting people with disability to participate and be included in society. The aim of the present research was to explore the role that virtual worlds play in facilitating people with disability to experience a self-perceived improvement of social participation, independence and well-being. Using qualitative methods our results indicate that people with lifelong disability perceive that they reach a larger and more diverse network through the use of virtual worlds. Based on identified Qualit…
Warm Experts 2.0
2019
This chapter focuses on family roles in digital families, drawing upon, and updating for the present day, the concept of the warm expert. First, the impact of information and communication technologies on family roles is investigated, based on qualitative research material collected from Finland, Italy and Slovenia in 2014 and 2015. After that the analysis looks at how family roles and responsibilities can change over the human life course. Three types of warm experts are identified, with their characteristics described and discussed. Lastly, the argument is made that intimately knowing the other family members is an essential quality of those acting in the role of warm experts, and that wh…
User Experiences and Satisfaction with an Electronic Health Record System
2019
Electronic health records have a crucial role for communication and information management in health care organizations. Electronic health records have improved the access to up-dated medical information at the point-of-care, but they have also been linked to usability issues and user problems. This paper presents a study about the user experience among health care professionals regarding an electronic health record system in Norway. Qualitative research methods were used, with interviews and observations made at a university hospital, where 14 clinical end-users of an electronic health record system contributed. The aim was to study the user experiences and the user satisfaction regarding …
