Determinants of elimination decisions in the activity scheduling process

2016

[EN] This paper presents an analysis on the determinants related to a particular rescheduling decision in the activity-travel scheduling process: elimination decisions, which consist in the non-execution of pre-planned activity-travel episodes. Data used come from an in-depth computer-assisted telephone interview (CATI) follow up survey carried out during the implementation of the first wave of an activity scheduling process panel survey. Open-ended answers related to the reasons associated to changes between pre-planned and executed agenda are studied. First, an interpretative qualitative method based on analytic induction (AI) is used to cope with the complex nature of the rescheduling de…

Changes in the Scheduling Process According to Observed Activity-travel Flexibility

2014

Abstract In this work we analyze the reasons for changing pre-planned activities and travels episodes considering the type of modification observed during the scheduling process. Specifically we selected a small sample from those pre-planned episodes that are no executed at all as a pilot study. The data analyzed was collected in the first wave of a weekly activity-travel panel survey carried out in Valencia (Spain) in 2010. Each survey wave consisted on a face-to-face interview to generate a pre-planned activity agenda for the following week, an activity-travel diary implemented on mobile phones to collect activities and travels as they are executed, and in-depth telephone interviews to in…

A qualitative meta-synthesis of patients' experiences of intra- and inter-hospital transitions

2013

Aim. To aggregate, interpret and synthesize findings from qualitative studies of patients’ experiences on being transferred/in transition from one hospital to another or from one ward to another. Background. Studies about patients’ experiences of transfer focused on concepts such as transfer stress, transfer anxiety, and translocation syndrome; however, a metasynthesis on experiences of transition across different patient populations was lacking. Design. The meta-synthesis approach was based on the guidelines by Sandelowski and Barroso. Data source. Six electronic databases were searched for articles published between the years 1999-2011, based on the target phenomenon: patients’ experience…

Qualitative analysis of determinants of measles, mumps, rubella vaccine uptake in European parents

2015

Background Parental concerns about measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccination negatively influence decision to vaccinate their children, this leading to the recently reported vaccine coverage drop in Europe. The ESCULAPIO project, funded by the Italian National Centre for Disease Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Health (CCM), is investigating the main factors underlying decisions on vaccinations, in order to implement targeted campaigns and plan effective strategies. Methods A systematic literature review was carried out on studies describing the determinants underlying MMR vaccination uptake in European parents. Results A total of 45 studies were included in the analysis. The mo…

Peer assessment based assignment to enhance interactions in online learning groups

2015

In this paper, we report on the findings from our PhD work on how peer assessment based assignment method can enhance interaction in online learning groups. The method is explored and tried out on the research methods course on the Bachelor of Commerce Programme which is run in distance learning mode at Makerere University. Based on the idea that learning groups can enhance effective learning in online learning environments, we used the affordance eLearning framework to design the peer assessment based assignment task and then qualitative methods collect and report on data. The results reveal that there was increased interaction through peer feedback. Students were motivated because of the …

A qualitative study of perioperative nursing students' experiences of interprofessional simulation-based learning.

2020

Aim: To explore perioperative nursing students' experiences of interprofessional simulation-based learning to gain a deeper understanding of how this educational tool can be used to support students' learning and enable them to achieve the intended learning outcomes. Background: Despite extensive research, it remains unclear what and how participants learn from interprofessional simulation-based learning. There is a need to specify how interprofessional simulation-based learning should be organised to support and promote learning processes, especially for postgraduate learners. In particular, there seems to be little evidence in the existing literature in the field of educating perioperativ…

PROPOSAL OF FORMAL AND NON-FORMAL EDUCATION FOR NEW GENERATION DIGITAL LEARNING DEMAND IN ENGINEERING

2021

Millennial generation, starting from twelve-year-olds up to adolescents, is one of the most complicated generational cohorts; its ecosystem, beyond of formal and non-formal education boundaries, is more diverse than for any other previous generation. Digital learners prefer a digital learning environment, as the advantage of digital learning is the control over time, place, way and pace, enabling you to impersonate as an educational institution, applying smart personal network which consists of 3 domains: applied smart technologies; reflexive pedagogy for the digital century [1]; learning environment [2], thus without any confrontation of formal and non-formal education, but rather with con…
