Micellar electrokinetic chromatography of polyamines and monoacetylpolyamines

A selective procedure for qualitative and quantitative analysis of ten polyamines by micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) was developed. Benzoylated polyamines and acetylpolyamines in micellar phase of SDS (10 mM) were separated at 25 degrees C by 20 mM borate buffer pH 8.5, containing 8% ethanol, with an applied voltage of 25 kV (5 microA) and then detected at 198 nm. The experimental factors and operational parameters were optimized by performing analysis at different surfactant concentrations, pH, voltage and temperature with and without ethanol. The repeatibility of migration times and peak heights is a peculiarity of the method here described.

The effects of "self-service technologies" (SST) (Curran and Meuter, 2005) on the value and satisfaction of service experience (Lin and Hsieh, 2007; Mencarelli and Rivière, 2014; Meuter et al., 2003) have been little studied in the arts and culture field. The research explores the effects of the use of a digital mediation device on the museum experience and on the overall satisfaction of the public. The results of the analysis of 916 questionnaires collected from visitors to the Louvre Lens museum show that the use of a digital mediation device during the museum visit experience does not significantly impact overall public satisfaction with the visit.

Experimental validation of a distribution theory based analysis of the effect of manufacturing tolerances on permanent magnet synchronous machines

An experimental study on the effect of permanent magnet tolerances on the performances of a Tubular Linear Ferrite Motor is presented in this paper. The performances that have been investigated are: cogging force, end effect cogging force and generated thrust. It is demonstrated that: 1) the statistical variability of the magnets introduces harmonics in the spectrum of the cogging force; 2) the value of the end effect cogging force is directly linked to the values of then remanence field of the external magnets placed on the slider; 3) the generated thrust and its statistical distribution depend on the remanence field of the magnets placed on the translator.

In this study we investigate the influence of the operation method in Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) on the measured potential distribution. KPFM is widely used to map the nanoscale potential distribution in operating devices, e.g., in thin film transistors or on cross sections of functional solar cells. Quantitative surface potential measurements are crucial for understanding the operation principles of functional nanostructures in these electronic devices. Energy intake functions of ectotherms and endotherms derived from their body mass growth

How animals allocate energy to different body functions is still not completely understood and a challenging topic until recently. Here, we investigate in more detail the allocation of energy intake to growth, reproduction or heat production by developing energy budget models for ectothermic and endothermic vertebrates using a mathematical approach. We calculated energy intake functions of ectotherms and endotherms derived from their body mass growth. We show that our energy budget model produces energy intake patterns and distributions as observed in ectothermic and endothermic species. Coexistence of resonant activation and noise enhanced stability in a model of tumor-host interaction: Statistics of extinction times

We study a Langevin equation derived from the Michaelis-Menten (MM) phenomenological scheme for catalysis accompanying a spontaneous replication of molecules, which may serve as a simple model of cell-mediated immune surveillance against cancer. We examine how two different and statistically independent sources of noise - dichotomous multiplicative noise and additive Gaussian white noise - influence the population's extinction time. This quantity is identified as the mean first passage time of the system across the zero population state. The Hilbert transform of horizontal gaze position during natural image classification by saccades

Eye movements are a behavioral response that can be involved in tasks as complicated as natural image classification. This report confirms that pro- and anti-saccades can be used by a volunteer to designate target (animal) or non-target images that were centered 16 degrees off the fixation point. With more than 86% correct responses, 11 participants responded to targets in 470 milliseconds on average, starting as quick as 245 milliseconds. Furthermore, tracking the gaze position is considered a powerful method in the studies of recognition as the saccade response times, ocular dynamics and the events around the response time can be calculated from the data sampled 240 times per second. Color vision deficiency (CVD) affects more than 4% of the population and leads to a different visual perception of colors. Though this has been known for decades, colormaps with many colors across the visual spectra are often used to represent data, leading to the potential for misinterpretation or difficulty with interpretation by someone with this deficiency.
