About the realization of chiral symmetry in QCD2
1992
Two dimensional massless Quantum Chromodynamics presents many features which resemble those of the true theory. In particular the spectrum consists of mesons and baryons arranged in flavor multiplets without parity doubling. We analyze the implications of chiral symmetry, which is not spontaneously broken in two dimensions, in the spectrum and in the quark condensate. We study how parity doubling, an awaited consequence of Coleman's theorem, is avoided due to the dimensionality of space-time and confinement. We prove that a chiral phase transition is not possible in the theory.
Mass singularities in light quark correlators: the strange quark case
1995
The correlators of light-quark currents contain mass-singularities of the form log(m^2/Q^2). It has been known for quite some time that these mass- logarithms can be absorbed into the vacuum expectation values of other operators of appropriate dimension, provided that schemes without normal- ordering are used. We discuss in detail this procedure for the case of the mass logarithms m^4 log(m^2/Q^2), including also the mixing with the other dimension-4 operators to two-loop order. As an application we present an improved QCD sum rule determination of the strange-quark mass. We obtain m_s(1 GeV)=171 \pm 15 MeV.
Taming the higher power corrections in semileptonic B decays
2016
We study the effect of dimension 7 and 8 operators on inclusive semileptonic B decays and the extraction of |Vcb|. Using moments of semileptonic B decay spectra and information based on the Lowest-Lying State saturation Approximation (LLSA) we perform a global fit of the nonperturbative parameters of the heavy quark expansion including for the first time the O(1/mb^{4,5}) contributions. Higher power corrections appear to have a very small effect on the extraction of |Vcb|, independently of the weight we attribute to the LLSA.
Semileptonic decays of the lightJP=1/2+ground state baryon octet
2008
We calculate the semileptonic baryon octet-octet transition form factors using a manifestly Lorentz covariant quark model approach based on the factorization of the contribution of valence quarks and chiral effects. We perform a detailed analysis of SU(3)-breaking corrections to the hyperon semileptonic decay form factors. We present complete results on decay rates and asymmetry parameters including lepton mass effects for the rates.
Doubly heavy quark baryon spectroscopy and semileptonic decay
2006
Working in the framework of a nonrelativistic quark model we evaluate the spectra and semileptonic decay widths for the ground state of doubly heavy $\Xi$ and $\Omega$ baryons. We solve the three-body problem using a variational ansatz made possible by the constraints imposed by heavy quark spin symmetry. In order to check the dependence of our resultson the inter-quark interaction we have used five different quarkquark potentials which include Coulomb and hyperfine terms coming fromone-gluon exchange, plus a confining term. Our results for the spectra are in good agreement with a previous calculation done using a Faddeev approach. For the semileptonic decay our results for the total decay …

Static properties and semileptonic decays of doubly heavy baryons in a nonrelativistic quark model
2006
We evaluate static properties and semileptonic decays for the ground state of doubly heavy $\Xi, \Xi', \Xi^*$ and $\Omega, \Omega', \Omega^*$ baryons. Working in the framework of a nonrelativistic quark model, we solve the three--body problem by means of a variational ansazt made possible by heavy quark spin symmetry constraints. To check the dependence of our results on the inter-quark interaction we use five different quark-quark potentials that include a confining term plus Coulomb and hyperfine terms coming from one--gluon exchange. Our results for static properties (masses, charge and mass radii, magnetic moments...) are, with a few exceptions for the magnetic moments, in good agreemen…
Spin structures of the pion and nucleon
2012
We present recent studies on the transverse spin densities of the pion and nucleon within the framework of the chiral quark-(soliton) model, based on the calculation of the electromagnetic and tensor form factors of the pion and the nucleon. The results for the transverse spin densities of the quark inside a pion are in good agreement with the recent lattice data, while those of the nucleon show similar features to the lattice results. We also present the first results of the transverse spin densities of the strange quark inside a nucleon.

Color-singlet states in a hadronic quark-cluster basis
1987
We prove that any physical (color-singlet) state can be expanded in terms of a basis constructed by direct product from baryonic and/or mesonic states. The proof is based on a group-theoretical representation method due to Hund. The application of the procedure to the color degrees of freedom leads to known results, which we generalize to more complex situations. The joint application of the method to the color and flavor degrees of freedom results in our initial statement. In this way one is able to give physical meaning to a mathematical procedure. The physics behind our calculation is intimately connected with the concepts of elementarity of constituents and the spinstatistics theorem. T…
