The equilibrium structure and fundamental vibrational frequencies of dioxirane

1998

Complete sets of quadratic and cubic force constants calculated for four isotopomers of dioxirane (CH2OO) are used to estimate vibration-rotation interaction contributions to observed values of rotational constants (B″), thereby yielding empirical estimates of the corresponding equilibrium values (Be). At the highest levels of theory, least-squares refinements of atomic coordinates to both the empirical Be values and the associated isotope shifts yield consistent sets of structural parameters. Recommended values are re(CO)=1.3846±0.0005 A; re(OO)=1.5133±0.0005 A; re(CH)=1.0853±0.0015 A and θe(HCH)=117.03±0.20°. Higgs-like spectator field as the origin of structure

2021

We show that the observed primordial perturbations can be entirely sourced by a light spectator scalar field with a quartic potential, akin to the Higgs boson, provided that the field is sufficiently displaced from vacuum during inflation. The framework relies on the indirect modulation of reheating, which is implemented without any direct coupling between the spectator field and the inflaton and does not require non-renormalisable interactions. The scenario gives rise to local non-Gaussianity with $f_{\rm NL}\simeq 5$ as the typical signal. As an example model where the indirect modulation mechanism is realised for the Higgs boson, we study the Standard Model extended with right-handed neu…

The ultraviolet landscape of two-Higgs doublet models

2018

We study the predictions of generic ultraviolet completions of two-Higgs doublet models. We assume that at the matching scale between the two-Higgs doublet model and a ultraviolet complete theory -- which can be anywhere between the TeV and the Planck scale -- arbitrary but perturbative values for the quartic couplings are present. We evaluate the couplings down from the matching scale to the weak scale and study the predictions for the scalar mass spectrum. In particular, we show the importance of radiative corrections which are essential for both an accurate Higgs mass calculation as well as determining the stability of the electroweak vacuum. We study the relation between the mass splitt…

Breakdown of the Reduction of the Rovibrational Hamiltonian: The Case of S18O2F2

2009

Abstract The ground state rotational spectrum of the near-spherical top molecule S18O2F2 (sulfuryl fluoride) has been measured from 50 to 700 GHz. As for the parent isotopologue, S16O2F2 [K. Sarka, J. Demaison, L. Margules, I. Merke, N. Heineking, H. Burger, H. Ruland, J. Mol. Spectrosc. 200 (2000) 55–64], it was necessary to use a non-reduced Hamiltonian in order to obtain a satisfactory fit. It was possible to determine six quartic centrifugal distortion constants (instead of five for a standard asymmetric top) and five sextic constants (one of them not existing in the reduced Hamiltonian) could also be determined. This ground state level has also been analysed thanks to a tensorial forma…

Measurements of Multi-boson production, Trilinear and Quartic Gauge Couplings with the ATLAS detector

2016

The ATLAS collaboration has carried a set of measurements that provide stringent tests of the electroweak sector of Standard Model, specifically on di- and multi-boson production cross sections and on triple and quartic gauge-boson couplings. Such measurements include cross sections for WV (V=W or Z) production in the leptonic or semileptonic channels, the production of a W or Z boson in association with photons, a Z boson in the vector-boson fusion channel and two same-charge W bosons in the vector-boson scattering channel. These measurements are compared to (N)NLO predictions of the Standard Model and provide model-independent constraints on new physics, by setting limits on anomalous gau…

STATISTICAL MECHANICS OF NONCLASSIC SOLITONIC STRUCTURES-BEARING DNA SYSTEM

2011

We theoretically investigate the thermodynamic properties of modified oscillator chain proposed by Peyrard and Bishop. This model obtained by adding the quartic anharmonicity term to the coupling in the Peyrard–Bishop model is useful to model the coexistence of various phases of the molecule during the denaturation phenomenon. Within the model, the negative anharmonicity is responsible for the sharpness of calculated melting curves. We perform the transfer integral calculations to demonstrate that the model leads to a good agreement with known experimental results for DNA.

Stationary problems for equation of the KdV type and dynamical r-matrices

1995

We study a quite general family of dynamical $r$-matrices for an auxiliary loop algebra ${\cal L}({su(2)})$ related to restricted flows for equations of the KdV type. This underlying $r$-matrix structure allows to reconstruct Lax representations and to find variables of separation for a wide set of the integrable natural Hamiltonian systems. As an example, we discuss the Henon-Heiles system and a quartic system of two degrees of freedom in detail.

Spiral Inflation with Coleman-Weinberg Potential

2015

We apply the idea of spiral inflation to Coleman-Weinberg potential, and show that inflation matching well observations is allowed for a symmetry-breaking scale ranging from an intermediate scale to GUT scale even if the quartic coupling $\lambda$ is of $\mathcal{O}(0.1)$. The tensor-to-scalar ratio can be of $\mathcal{O}(0.01)$ in case of GUT scale symmetry-breaking.

Resummation of anisotropic quartic oscillator. Crossover from anisotropic to isotropic large-order behavior

1996

We present an approximative calculation of the ground-state energy for the anisotropic anharmonic oscillator Using an instanton solution of the isotropic action $\delta = 0$, we obtain the imaginary part of the ground-state energy for small negative $g$ as a series expansion in the anisotropy parameter $\delta$. From this, the large-order behavior of the $g$-expansions accompanying each power of $\delta$ are obtained by means of a dispersion relation in $g$. These $g$-expansions are summed by a Borel transformation, yielding an approximation to the ground-state energy for the region near the isotropic limit. This approximation is found to be excellent in a rather wide region of $\delta$ aro…

Can measurements of 2HDM parameters provide hints for high scale supersymmetry?

2018

Two-Higgs-doublet models (2HDMs) are minimal extensions of the Standard Model (SM) that may still be discovered at the LHC. The quartic couplings of their potentials can be determined from the measurement of the masses and branching ratios of their extended scalar sectors. We show that the evolution of these couplings through renormalization group equations can determine whether the observed 2HDM is a low energy manifestation of a more fundamental theory, as for instance, supersymmetry, which fixes the quartic couplings in terms of the gauge couplings. At leading order, the minimal supersymmetric extension of the SM (MSSM) dictates all the quartic couplings, which can be translated into a p…
