Secondary School Students' Knowledge and Opinions on Astrobiology Topics and Related Social Issues.

2017

Astrobiology is the study of the origin of life on Earth and the distribution of life in the Universe. Its multidisciplinary approach, social and philosophical implications, and appeal within the discipline and beyond make astrobiology a uniquely qualified subject for general science education. In this study, student knowledge and opinions on astrobiology topics were investigated. Eighty-nine students in their last year of compulsory education (age 15) completed a written questionnaire that consisted of 10 open questions on the topic of astrobiology. The results indicate that students have significant difficulties understanding the origin of life on Earth, despite exposure to the topic by w…

Self-Reported Adjustment of Teenagers at Soccer Training Centers: The Soccer Trainee Adjustment Scale

2008

The aim of this study was to develop a questionnaire to measure adjustment of teenagers at soccer training centers, particularly newcomers. The Soccer Trainee Adjustment Scale was adapted from the Institutional Integration Scale and assesses the trainee's adjustment to operating and social activities. The scale was tested on a sample of 136 trainees from four soccer centers. Exploratory analysis indicated that the 13 items formed five factors: peer adjustment, boarding supervisor adjustment, soccer adjustment, scholastic adjustment, and boarding adjustment. These factors had internal consistency reliability ranging from .76 to .94.

Relationship between physical activity level and psychosocial and socioeconomic factors and issues in children and adolescents with asthma:a scoping …

2017

Background: Asthma is a heterogeneous chronic airway disease which may reduce capability for physical activity. In healthy peers, physical activity is influenced by psychosocial and socioeconomic factors. Knowledge about the role of these factors has not been mapped in children and adolescents with asthma. Objective: The main objective of this scoping review was to identify psychosocial and socioeconomic factors associated with physical activity level in children and adolescents with asthma in the literature. The specific objectives were to map the instruments used to measure these factors, report on the construction and validation of these instruments, map psychosocial and socioeconomic is…

Disentangling relations between the desirability of the thin-ideal, body checking, and worry on college women's weight-loss dieting

2019

The study used self-regulation theory to elucidate the relationships between the desirability of the thin-ideal goal, dispositional worry, body checking and weight-loss dieting (WLD) in college women. We hypothesized that body checking would mediate the relationship between the desirability of the thin-ideal goal and WLD: the desire to be thin would be associated with more WLD through more frequent body checking. We also hypothesized that dispositional worry would moderate this mediation pathway, such that the mediation pathway would be stronger for those higher in worry. Finally, all effects were expected to occur when controlling for self-reported body size. A paper and pencil survey was …

Impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak on radiology research: An Italian survey

2021

Abstract Purpose To understand how COVID-19 pandemic has changed radiology research in Italy. Methods A questionnaire (n = 19 questions) was sent to all members of the Italian Society of Radiology two months after the first Italian national lockdown was lifted. Results A total of 327 Italian radiologists took part in the survey (mean age: 49 ± 12 years). After national lockdown, the working-flow came back to normal in the vast majority of cases (285/327, 87.2%). Participants reported that a total of 462 radiological trials were recruiting patients at their institutions prior to COVID-19 outbreak, of which 332 (71.9%) were stopped during the emergency. On the other hand, 252 radiological tri…

Memory bias for schema-related stimuli in individuals with bulimia nervosa

2010

This study investigates whether individuals with bulimia nervosa (BN) have a memory bias in relation to explicit memory (cued and free recall vs. verbal and pictorial recognition tasks). Twenty-five participants diagnosed with BN and 27 normal controls (NC) were exposed to body-related, food-related, and neutral TV commercials, and then recall and recognition rates were assessed. Poorer recognition and recall of body-related stimuli was found for BN in comparison to NC, suggesting a memory bias. Results are discussed in relation to previous studies, along with suggestions as to how future studies can gain more insight into dysfunctions in information processing that can lead to the maintena…

Psychometric evaluations of the Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R), based on nine samples

2021

The aim of this study was to examine psychometric properties of the Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R).The LOT-R was administered in five clinical samples, three samples of the adult general population, and one sample of adolescents. Seven of the studies were performed in Germany and two in Colombia. All of the sample sizes were above 300.Cronbach's alpha coefficients were between .57 and .75 for the eight adult samples, the correlations between the scales optimism and pessimism ranged from -.05 to -.37, and the coefficients of temporal stability (test-retest correlations) of the scales ranged from .43 to .69. There were no systematic age and gender effects observed in the nine studies. …

Translation, adaptation and psychometric validation of the preterm birth experience and satisfaction scale (P-BESS) into Spanish.

2018

Abstract Background Preterm labour and birth are two of the most important issues in perinatal care. The birth of a preterm baby is often a stressful and traumatic time for parents. Assessment of satisfaction with maternity services is crucial and questionnaires are the most common method as long as they are well-constructed. Only one, The Preterm Birth Experience and Satisfaction Scale (P-BESS), developed in United Kingdom, has been designed for this specific birth type. Objectives To translate, transculturally adapt and assess the psychometric properties of the P-BESS into Spanish. Design Cross-sectional study. Setting Maternity unit of a tertiary level hospital in Spain. Participants A t…

Sexual disorders and dyspnoea among women with obstructive sleep apnea

2020

Abstract Purpose We aimed to assess sexual function, sexual distress and the prevalence of female sexual dysfunction (FSD) among women with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA), and to assess if the presence of OSA and dyspnea influences the prevalence of FSD, body image during sexual activity and sexual function. Methods We assessed 23 women with new OSA diagnosis and 23 healthy age and body mass index (BMI) matched controls. Sexual functions were evaluated by Changes in Sexual Functioning Questionnaire (CSFQ), sexual dysfunction was diagnosed based on DSM-5 criteria during the semi-structured sexual interview, whereas body image was evaluated by Body Exposure during Sexual Activities Qu…
