In order to explore the ability of non-stochastic quadratic indices to encode chemical information in antimalarials, four quantitative models for the discrimination of compounds having this property were generated and statistically compared. Accuracies of 90.2% and 83.3% for the training and test sets, respectively, were observed for the best of all the models, which included non-stochastic quadratic fingerprints weighted with Pauling electronegativities. The synthesis and characterization of twenty new pentamethylcyclopentadienyl-rhodium and iridium complexes containing N^N and N^O-chelating chloroquine analogue ligands are described. The in vitro antimalarial activity of the new ligands as well as the complexes was evaluated against the chloroquine sensitive (CQS) NF54 and the chloroquine resistant (CQR) Dd2 strains of Plasmodium falciparum. The antimalarial activity was found to be good to moderate; although all complexes are less active than artesunate, some of the ligands and complexes showed better activity than chloroquine (CQ). The main objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of the Qnr determinants in clinical and environmental Aeromonas spp. A total of 52 Aeromonas sp. isolates identified by biochemical methods (5), 25 isolated from natural waters (1) and 27 isolated from clinical samples from hospitals in Valencia, Spain, were tested for quinolone resistance by the disk diffusion method (4) (nalidixic acid, 30 μg; oxolinic acid, 2 μg; flumequine, 30 μg; ciprofloxacin, 5 μg; and levofloxacin, 5 μg). This paper concerns Quine's classification of philosophies of mathematics as sketched in "On what there is" and offers a new reading of Quine's view. In his famous paper Quine defines three positions: Realism, Conceptualism, and Nominalism. Each of them, he says, has its modern expression, respectively, in Logicism, Intuitionism, and Formalism. The aim of this study was to determine if Rituximab coated Biodegradable Nanoparticles (BNPs) loaded with Chlorambucil and Hydroxychloroquine could induce apoptosis of B-Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (B-CLL), MEC-1 and BJAB cells in vitro and evaluate their toxic and therapeutic effects on a Human/Mouse Model of Burkitt Lymphoma at an exploratory, proof of concept scale. We found that Rituximab-Chlorambucil-Hydroxychloroquine BNPs induce a decrease in cell viability of malignant B cells in a dose-dependent manner. Abstract Molecular connectivity has been applied to the search for new compounds with antimalarial activity. Linear discriminant analysis and connectivity functions were used to select several potentially suitable drugs which were tested for antimalarial properties by use of an in-vitro micro test which estimates parasite growth by measurement of incorporation of [3H]hypoxanthine. Hexetidine stands out among the compounds selected. Activity assays were performed with Plasmodium falciparum passou and 3CD7 strains, for which the IC50 values (doses resulting in 50% inhibition) were 320 and 400 ng mL−1 respectively. This chapter tries to throw light on the first of Godel’s two main theses in the philosophy of mathematics, namely that mathematical propositions are analytic. To this end, an overview of similar conceptions is presented first in which the views by Frege, Russell Wittgenstein, Carnap and Quine are expounded. Then Godel’s view is analyzed, both in his publications and in the manuscripts which appear in this edition. Naturalizzazione, mente e conoscenza - A controversial issue regarding Quine’s naturalised epistemology is that it may involve some form of reductionism. This article focuses on one of these forms, analysing the interplay of his philosophy of mind and epistemology. It aims to show that if we take into proper consideration the way in which the version of anomalous monism embraced affects his conception of mental states like sensations and propositional attitudes, Quine’s philosophy of mind should be regarded as anti-reductionist. Quine and the Contemporary Debate on Mindreading

Abstract The paper examines some of the questions emerging from the debate on mindreading regarding Quine’s legacy and contribution to a new agenda on the issue. Since mindreading is an exercise in folk-psychology, a) which role folk psychology has to play according to Quine? b) was Quine’s account of mindreading closer to theory-theory, simulation theory or hybrid theory? c) was Quine a rationality theorist? d) are hybrid-theory and rationality theory incompatible as many would suggest? On the score of the answers to these questions, the paper tries to suggest a Quinean inspired blend of rationality-based and hybrid view-based strategies to explain mindreading.
