Moral assessment of frozen human embryo adoption in the light of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church

As the number of frozen human embryos continues to rise daily, with numbers not expected to fall, an answer must be found to this dilemma. Four possible solutions have been suggested: a) thaw the embryos and allow them to perish; b) thaw them and donate them for biomedical research; c) thaw them and donate them in adoption; and d) leave them frozen indefinitely. Gastrocriticism: pentru o reinterpretare a poeziei lui Emil Brumaru

Abstract The aim of this essay is to offer a gastrocritical analysis of Emil Brumaru's poetry, taking into consideration the symbolism of fruits, vegetables, dairy products, spices and food in general. The four main parts of the essay are based on the sensuality of the fruits, on the memories brought up by food, on dreams stirred up by spices and on the autochtonous place described by the traditional "zacusca". These, all together, will prove the fact that the gastronomical references in Brumaru's poetry are full of connotations and this is what we will try to identify by the interdisciplinar approach.

Abstract Diet and exposure to certain chemical compounds related to industrial development could be responsible for the increase in the incidence of human reproductive diseases and the consequent decrease in reproductive function worldwide. The role of diet and environment in fertility has received more attention in recent years because nutrition and exposure to contaminants can affect fecundity in women of reproductive age. Here, we review how diet could affect reproduction. Furthermore, we will review how the most ubiquitous contaminants could disrupt endometrial receptivity and implantation, focusing also on clinical studies performed in the last years.

The European consumers’ understanding and perceptions of the “organic” food regime

This paper explores consumer understanding and perception of organic food, with specific reference to the relatively new concept of organic farmed salmon. Key themes associated with the term “organic” and its meaning, as determined by consumers, are explored and the role of labelling and regulatory authorities considered. Focus groups in five countries (UK, Germany, Spain, Norway and France) consisting of 196 participants showed that most consumers are confused about the meaning of the term organic and are largely unaware of the organic certification and labelling process. In the present study, we investigate how these differences between the two formerly divided regions developed and what maintains them. Specifically, we consider the associations between health status, income satisfaction, and health-related locus of control. However, research on organic food shows a low translation of this interest into stated preferences for purchasing organic food.
