Artikkelissa tarkastellaan sitä, miten nukkumista ohjeistettiin 1800-luvun lopun ja 1900-luvun alkukymmenten suomalaisessa terveysvalistuksessa ja mitä hyvän unen avulla tavoiteltiin. Artikkelissa kysytään myös, ketkä nukkumisohjeita laativat, kenelle ne oli suunnattu ja millaisesta ajattelutavasta ne kumpusivat. Unihygienia eli nukkumiseen ja liittyvät ohjeistukset olivat osa kansainvälistä hygienialiikettä, joka oli vahvimmillaan juuri 1800-luvun loppupuolella. Comparative linguistics seems to suggest that the gap between two languages can be filled by grammar. But mapping the structural gaps between languages hardly makes for the more fundamental gap that is created by the writing of a new text, a supposedly identical addendum to the first. Writing that new text entails questions about the nature of texts, their intentions, their interpretations. Translation must therefore develop a hermeneutical approach. Bacterial antibiotic resistance is often a part of mobile genetic elements that move from one bacterium to another. By interfering with the horizontal movement and the maintenance of these elements, it is possible to remove the resistance from the population. Here, we show that a so-called plasmid-dependent bacteriophage causes the initially resistant bacterial population to become susceptible to antibiotics. However, this effect is efficiently countered when the system also contains a predator that feeds on bacteria. Considering their significance and prevalence in Northern and Eastern Europe, little is known about how contemporary children perceive these cultural heritage spaces. Marsilio Ficino’s relationship to the Hermetic literary tradition has long been a controversial issue in academic discussion. Although Ficino is commonly known as a translator and keen reader of the philosophical Hermetica, his allegiances to the Hermetic ideas have been recognized only in his theory of magic (only to be denied later), while in other cases, in general, scholars tend to deny the impact of Hermetic writings instead of accepting it. Minerva Oy oli 1800- ja 1900-luvun vaihteessa Helsingissä toiminut tieteellinen antikvaarinen kirjakauppa. Tarkastelen Minerva-osakeyhtiön historiaa 1890-luvulta 1910-luvulle sen piirissä toimineiden henkilöiden kautta hyödyntämällä kollektiivibiografista menetelmää.        Internet kehitettiin alun perin 1960-luvulla puolustus- ja tiedustelupalvelujen tarpeisiin, mutta 1980-luvulla kehitettyjen visuaalisten käyttöliittymien ansiosta siitä on tullut yhä tärkeämpi osa länsimaisen ihmisen arkipäivää. Vaikutukset sosiaaliseen ja kulttuuriseen kanssakäymiseen ovat olleet mittavia, minkä vuoksi myös sosiaali- ja kulttuuritieteet ovat olleet kiinnostuneita siitä mitä ihmiset tekevät internetissä. Kansainvälisesti virtuaaliantropologista tutkimusta on tehty jo 1990-luvun alusta saakka, mutta Suomessa marginaalisesti vasta 2000-luvulla.
