Resumen Este artículo examina la importancia de los viajes y las redes profesionales en los orígenes de la psiquiatría en España. Tras una revisión de los antecedentes ilustrados y los periplos terapéuticos y profesionales en el primer alienismo, se describen los desplazamientos a instituciones psiquiátricas extranjeras, durante el segundo tercio del siglo XIX, de un grupo de médicos exiliados, comisionados y pioneros españoles. Artikkelissa tarkastellaan yhden pitkäaikaisen potilaan, ”Katrin”, potilaskertomuksen kautta mielisairauteen liitettyjen kriteerien muuttumista, diagnostiikan ja sairastuneiden lääketieteellisen hallinnan kehitystä sekä mielisairaanhoidon muuttumista psykiatriaksi. Artikkelissa kysytään, millä perusteella mielisairaalapotilas lähetettiin hoitolaitokseen, millaisia hoitokäytänteitä häneen sovellettiin ja miksi ja auttoivatko ne. Kysymyksiin vastaamiseen tarvitaan kontekstin, suomalaisen psykiatrian, tuntemista. Globalisation and metropolisation in modern economies induce some locational strategies of knowledge based activities towards cities and deeply increase trade and move of ideas across cities. In that context, we study the way knowledge spillovers have influenced the economic growth of 82 European Metropolises over the 1990-2005 period. We model knowledge spillovers across cities according to three specific interaction patterns depending either on geography or on global advanced services or thought a combination of these patterns. We show that the mixed pattern matters the best for economic growth of cities in Europe.

Artikkelissa tarkastellaan mielisairauden kansanomaisia tulkintoja 1900-luvun ensimmäisinä vuosikymmeninä, jolloin mielisairaita ja muita marginaaliryhmiä koskeva yhteiskunnallinen keskustelu kävi vilkkaana. Mielisairaat alkoivat degeneraatioteorioiden myötä näyttäytyä modernisoituvan yhteiskunnan ei- toivottuina toisina, joiden henkinen ja fyysinen rappio uskottiin perinnölliseksi. AbstractThe detection of antinuclear autoantibody (ANA) is dependent on many factors and varies between the populations. The aim of the study was first to assess the prevalence of ANA in the Polish adult population depending on age, sex and the cutoff threshold used for the results obtained. Second, we estimated the occurrence of individual types of ANA-staining patterns. We tested 1731 patient samples using commercially available IIFA using two cutoff thresholds of 1:100 and 1:160. We found ANA in 260 participants (15.0%), but the percentage of positive results strongly depended on the cutoff level. Objectives Human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-B27 (B27) is the strongest genetic factor associated with development of Ankylosing Spondylitis and other spondyloarthropathies (SpA), yet the role it plays in disease pathogenesis remains unclear. We investigated the expression of potentially pathogenic non-conventional heavy chain forms (NC) of B27 in synovial and intestinal tissues obtained from SpA patients.
