A Metal-Free, Nonconjugated Polymer for Solar Photocatalysis
2017
Heterogeneous catalysts that can absorb light over the solar range are ideal for green photocatalysis. Recently, attention has been directed towards the generation of novel solar-light photocatalysts, in particular, metal-free polymers. Herein, it is demonstrated that a metal-free, nonconjugated, anthraquinone-based copolymer (poly[1,4-diamine-9,10-dioxoanthracene-alt-(benzene-1,4-dioic acid)] (COP)) with a strong absorption in the visible region is effective as a sunlight heterogeneous photocatalyst. As a proof of concept, it has been used to mineralize 2,5-dichlorophenol (2,5-DCP) in water under air and sunlight irradiation. The photocatalytic efficiency of COP compares well with that of …
Reaktionen bei der Bestrahlung von poly(N-chloramid)en
1980
On irradiating poly(N-chloroamide)s in films or in solution in the range of 325–375 nm carboxamide groups are formed. The irradiated polymer contains chlorine which is linked to C-atoms. This reaction can certainly not be explained with an intramolecular photorearrangement but with a sequence of photoreactions and dark reactions satisfactorily accounting for all observations.
Nonlinear optical susceptibilities of polysilanes: exciton effect
1992
Abstract Third-order nonlinear optical susceptibilities of σ-conjugated one-dimensional polymers have been calculated in a tight-binding model by taking account of the formation of excitons due to long-range Coulomb interactions. The spectrum of third-harmonic generation (THG) exhibits peaks due to excitons as well as unbound electron—hole states, in contrast to the linear absorption spectrum which is dominated by the lowest exciton state. The results are in excellent agreement with recent experiments in polysilanes not only for THG but also for linear absorption, two-photon absorption, and electroabsorption in a mutually consistent way.
Positrons and electron-irradiation induced defects in the layered semiconductor InSe
1992
The positron annihilation characteristics of the layered semiconductor InSe have been investigated. No evidence for low temperature positron trapping is found in as-grown and heavily deformed InSe. The temperature dependence of the S-parameter in these sample exhibits an increase rate in good agreement with the linear expansion coefficient along the c-axis. The positron lifetime spectra of electron-irradiated 0.01% Sn-doped InSe show a long-lifetime component of 336 ps which is tentatively attributed to positrons trapped at isolated In vacancies. Isochronal annealing experiments performed on these samples show that the recovery of the positron lifetime measured at 77K is accomplished in two…
In-situ polymerization of polyaniline in radiation functionalized polypropylene films
2015
Abstract In-situ generation of a nanodispersed conductive polymer within a polypropylene matrix has been pursued in order to obtain flexible, conductive films. Radiation grafting of acrylic acid to polypropylene (PP) has been applied to insert carboxyl functionalities on PP. The radiation-grafted films have been further derivatized with a variety of diamines and used as substrates for in-situ chemical oxidative polymerization of polyaniline (PANI). PANI grows as a thin skin from the surface of the film as well as an interpenetrated network in its interiors. Evidence of chemical attachment of PANI to PP has been sought by performing FTIR and XPS analyses after extraction of the unbound polym…
Electrical properties of γ-crosslinked hydrogels incorporating organic conducting polymers
2007
Abstract Hydrogel composites containing nanoparticles of the protonated emeraldine form of polyaniline (PANI-PE) have been synthesised by γ-irradiation, using either polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) or polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as steric stabilisers. Swelling behaviour of both hydrogels is reported, together with an electrical characterisation of composites, before and after gel network formation, performed by cyclic voltammetry and impedance spectroscopy. Similarities and differences between the two composite systems are discussed.
1991
The sanidic polyamide [NM-Ph(CO 2 R) 3 (CO 2 Me)-NMCO-Ph(OR) 2 CO] n (R=C 12 H 25 ) is studied. It is shown that this polymer has a biaxial structure with quasi 2-D long range translational correlations. The correlations in one direction are limited by the length of the molecule. The oriented regions are separated by regions in which the molecules are less oriented
Morphology of 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate room temperature ionic liquids
2008
The structural organization in selected room temperature ionic liquids, namely (a) butyl-, (b) hexyl- and (c) octyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate, is investigated by means of X-ray diffraction. We find novel experimental evidences of the existence of a high degree of intermediate range order that is associated to nanoscale segregation of the alkyl chains into the charged matrix. The size of these structural heterogeneities depends linearly from the alkyl chain length. A similar behaviour had been observed in other systems, such as normal alcohols. The slope of such dependence provides hints on the nature of the structural organization of these segregated domains.
Growth and characterization of GdxHg1−xSe crystals
2008
Abstract The growth of GdxHg1−xSe crystals by the vertical Bridgman method was studied in the composition range 0⩽x⩽0.1. The structural and electronic properties of GdxHg1−xSe crystals were investigated as a function of composition. It was found that an increase in gadolinium content up to x=0.01 results in a decrease of structural defects and an increase in electron mobility up to the maximum value of μ77≈2.8×105 cm2/V s. Structural defects start to increase at x>0.01, and the formation of Gd2Se3 amorphous phase takes place at x>0.03. On the base of the electron-spin resonance investigation, it was shown that the Gd incorporates into the HgSe host in Gd3+ charge state at the concentration …
Radiation synthesis of polyaspartamide functionalised hydrogels for sustained release of fragrances
2005
The aim of the present investigation is to assess the possibility of obtaining a biocompatible material device which is able to deliver oil-soluble fragrances in air over a length of time. Aqueous solutions of polyaspartamide functionalised with glycidyl methacrylate have been cross linked through gamma irradiation in the presence of a lipophilic model fragrance, emulsified prior to irradiation. Two emulsification conditions have been considered at two different concentrations of both fragrance and surfactant in water. Chemical hydrogels have been obtained in correspondence to two irradiation absorbed doses and have been characterised for their solubility properties and swelling ability in …
