A fully automatic method for biological target volume segmentation of brain metastases

Leksell Gamma Knife is a mini-invasive technique to obtain a complete destruction of cerebral lesions delivering a single high dose radiation beam. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging is increasingly utilized for radiation treatment planning. Nevertheless, lesion volume delineation in PET datasets is challenging because of the low spatial resolution and high noise level of PET images. Oligonucleotides-decorated-poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone) nanogels for gene delivery

Pulsed electron-beam irradiation of a semi-dilute poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) aqueous solution in the presence of acrylic acid has led to a carboxyl functionalized nanogel system. Nanoparticles hydrodynamic size and surface charge density, in water and as a function of pH, were investigated by dynamic light scattering and laser doppler velocimetry, respectively. Nanogels (NGs) were proved not to be cytotoxic at the cellular level. Indeed, they rapidly bypass the cellular membrane to accumulate in specific cell portions of the cytoplasm, in the perinuclear area. RGB imaging of laser-excited skin autofluorescence bleaching rates

2010

In-vivo skin photo-bleaching (intensity decrease during irradiation) has been investigated at 405 nm cw laser excitation. Digital RGB photo-camera was used for studies of the bleaching features by analysis of fluorescent images at separated R, G and B spectral bands. Diagnostic potential based on correlations between skin pigmentation and bleaching rates is discussed.

Anatomy of the visual system

This brief systemic overview presents the anatomic details of the orbit with respect to imaging modalities CT and MR. The structures of the four orbital compartments, intrakonal and extrakonal space, globe and optic nerve are demonstrated in detail on different CT and MR views (axial, coronal, in soft tissue and bone window, T1-weighted, T2-weighted) with corresponding diagrams. The intracranial visual pathway is explained in detail with emphasis to the striate cortex and extrastriate visual association cortex, presented with diagrams and high-resolution MR.

Volcanic products of Lipari (Aeolian islands, Italy): Multivariate analysis of petrographic and radiometric data

Abstract A petrographic and radiometric study, along with statistical multivariate analysis of volcanic products of the island of Lipari (Aeolian islands, Italy) was carried out. The volcanological history of Lipari was reconstructed defining two stages (pre- and post-erosive stages) further on subdivided in four volcanic phases, each of which characterized by products with a particular chemical composition and separated by stratigraphic unconformities.
