A multiple linear regression technique was used to evaluate the matrix interferences in the determination of hydride-forming elements in lead shotgun pellets by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. The determination of arsenic, antimony, and tin in SRM C2416 (Bullet Lead) by ICP-AES failed to obtain the certified concentrations at the 95% level of confidence using the t-test. However, it proved possible, by using the multiple linear regression technique, to correct the concentrations of all three elements to a statistically acceptable level. Trap Spectroscopy by the Glow Rate Technique using Bleaching of Colour Centres

An application of the glow rate technique (GRT) for analysis of the parameters of thermostimulated decay of colour centres is presented using the data on the decay of radiation defects in LiBaF 3 :Fe crystals created by X rays at 300 K. The GRT offers a procedure for evaluation of the mean activation energy as a function of temperature in the case of arbitrary thermostimulated relaxation kinetics represented by the trap distribution function. The experimental procedure involves at least two subsequent measurements of thermostimulated decay kinetics at different heating rates. Anomalous solvent extraction behavior of astatine

We studied the solvent extraction behavior of astatine and found the anomalous behavior of this element similar to radioiodine. Astatine was extracted into CS2 from acidic solution over a wide range of carrier iodine concentration. The distribution ratios of astatine were determined by measuring the γ-ray from 210 At with a Nal(TI) detector. A drastic change was observed around at 10−4 mol/l as in the case of 131 I. This tendency is well explained by the kinematics of the chemical reactions concemed.
Evaluation of the relative thermoluminescence efficiency of LiF:Mg,Ti and LiF:Mg,Cu,P TL detectors to low-energy heavy ions

Abstract The most popular types of LiF-based thermoluminescent (TL) detectors, LiF:Mg,Ti (MTS-N) and LiF:Mg,Cu,P (MCP-N), have been investigated, with respect to their dose (fluence) response and relative TL efficiency to different ion species. The detectors were irradiated using the nitrogen, iron, krypton and xenon ion beams, at energies ranging from 5.0 to 9.3 MeV/n. Supra- and sublinear response was found, for the MTS-N and MCP-N, respectively, similarly as observed for γ-rays. The very wide range of applications of LTA zeolites, including the storage of tritiated water, implies that a detailed and accurate atomic-scale description of the adsorption processes taking place in their structure is crucial. To unravel with an unprecedented accuracy the mechanisms behind the water filling in NaA, we have conducted a systematic ab initio molecular dynamics investigation. Two LTA structural models, the conventional Z4A and the reduced one ZK4, have been used for static and dynamic ab initio calculations, respectively. Optimizing [13N]N2 radiochemistry for nitrogen-fixation in root nodules of legumes

Here we explored the conditions for synthesizing [ 13 N]N 2 in a state that is suitable for the administration to plant root nodules enabling studies of nitrogen fixation. [ 13 N]N 2 was prepared batchwise, starting with [ 13 N]NO ― 3 from the 16 O(p,α) 13 N nuclear reaction on a liquid water target. [ 13 N]NO ― 3 was first reduced to [ 13 N]NH 3 using Devarda's alloy, and then the [ 13 N]NH 3 was oxidized to [ 13 N]N 2 by hypobromite using carrier-added NH 4 CI. Cathodoluminescence decay kinetics in Ge+, Si+, O+ implanted SiO2 layers

Abstract Cathodoluminescence spectral shapes and respective band decay times show no similarity between luminescence centers in different crystal and amorphous modifications of SiO2 and GeO2. On the other hand, the additionally produced red luminescence centers (650 nm) by oxygen implantation into SiO2 layers are of the same nature as in stoichiometric SiO2 and are attributed to the non-bridging oxygen hole center (NBOHC). On the other hand, the elevated blue luminescence (460 nm) in Si implanted SiO2 belongs to the silicon related oxygen deficient center (SiODC) as in stoichiometric layers also.
