Abstract We report a case of Dunbar syndrome, May–Thurner syndrome and Nutcracker syndrome diagnosed in one patient with clinical presentation and imaging findings on Doppler ultrasonography. Pharmacogenomics in psychiatry: from therapeutic drug monitoring to genomic medicine.

Psychiatry is increasingly combining new pharmacogenomic findings with therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) to improve the safety and efficacy of pharmacotherapy. However, a distinction should be made between “nice to know” and “need to know” pharmacogenomic data because many results are statistically significant in meta-analyses but are not clinically relevant due to their low effect sizes. Some examples will illustrate this integration.

Anderson-Fabry disease, an inherited deficiency in the lysosomal enzyme alpha-galactosidase A, is characterized by the progressive accumulation of globotriaosylceramide (Gb3), also known as CD77. We sought to clarify the pathogenesis of Fabry disease by establishing a cell model of this disorder. The expression of alpha-galactosidase A was transiently silenced by RNA interference in HK2 and primary human renal epithelial cells and stably silenced in HK2 cells by retroviral transfection with small hairpin RNA. Effects of enzyme replacement therapy with agalsidase alfa on glomerular filtration rate in patients with Fabry disease: preliminary data

Progressive deposition of globotriaosylceramide results in severe complications involving the kidney, heart and brain in both hemizygous male and heterozygous female patients with Fabry disease. Analysis of renal data from FOS - the Fabry Outcome Survey - suggests that enzyme replacement therapy with agalsidase alfa can significantly improve renal function in patients with Fabry disease, at least in those with a mild decrease in glomerular filtration rate, and may also be able to slow down the natural decline in renal function in patients with a moderate reduction in glomerular filtration rate. Objective To study whether normal-weight obesity in childhood is associated with increased cardiometabolic risk in early adulthood. Methods This study assessed data for 236 girls followed from prepuberty to early adulthood. Growth chart data were obtained from birth to 18 years. Body composition was assessed by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry and cardiometabolic risk by calculating continuous clustered risk score (at ages 11, 14, and 18). The association of body weight status with cardiometabolic risk from childhood to early adulthood was examined. The effects of ten muscarinic antagonists on electrically evoked [3H]-acetylcholine release and muscle contraction were compared in an epithelium-free preparation of the guinea-pig trachea that had been preincubated with [3H]-choline. 2. The M3-selective antagonists UH-AH 37, 4-diphenyl-acetoxy-N-piperidine methobromide and para-fluorohexahydrosiladiphenidol were more potent in reducing the contractile response than in facilitating the evoked [3H]-acetylcholine release. Although exercise training programs are effective in improving physical fitness and motor competence in typically developing youth, insufficient data of the impact of interventions are available in youth with Asperger syndrome (AS).
