Soundscape design through evolutionary engines

Abstract Two implementations of an Evolutionary Sound Synthesis method using the Interaural Time Difference (ITD) and psychoacoustic descriptors are presented here as a way to develop criteria for fitness evaluation. We also explore a relationship between adaptive sound evolution and three soundscape characteristics: keysounds, key-signals and sound-marks. Sonic Localization Field is defined using a sound attenuation factor and ITD azimuth angle, respectively (Ii, Li). A FRET-based random screening assay was used to generate hit compounds as sortase A inhibitors that allowed us to identify ethyl 3-oxo-2-(2-phenylhydrazinylidene)butanoate as an example of a new class of sortase A inhibitors. Other analogues were generated by changing the ethoxycarbonyl function for a carboxy, cyano or amide group, or introducing substituents in the phenyl ring of the ester and acid derivatives. The most active derivative found was 3-oxo-2-(2-(3,4dichlorophenyl)hydrazinylidene)butanoic acid (2b), showing an IC50 value of 50 µM. Numerical methods for a nonlinear impact model: A comparative study with closed-form corrections

A physically based impact model-already known and exploited in the field of sound synthesis-is studied using both analytical tools and numerical simulations. It is shown that the Hamiltonian of a physical system composed of a mass impacting on a wall can be expressed analytically as a function of the mass velocity during contact. Moreover, an efficient and accurate approximation for the mass outbound velocity is presented, which allows to estimate the Hamiltonian at the end of the contact. Behind screens : challenges and opportunities of participatory online peace education in Finland

This article discusses the challenges and opportunities of participatory online teaching and learning in higher education. It analyses an online peace education course taught during the Covid-19 pandemic in three Finnish universities between 2020–2021. The course explored fundamental mediation skills and practices of positive peace through participatory methods and applied drama. We show how the online setting affected students and teachers, by focusing on the challenges and opportunities for participatory pedagogy in an online environment. En la introducción se da detallada cuenta de la biografía de Madramany a partir de la consulta de la documentación de archivos, y se repasa el conjunto de su producción escrita, prestando especial atención a los contenidos, las estructuras y las fuentes de los Ethicorum. SparseHC: A Memory-efficient Online Hierarchical Clustering Algorithm

Computing a hierarchical clustering of objects from a pairwise distance matrix is an important algorithmic kernel in computational science. Since the storage of this matrix requires quadratic space with respect to the number of objects, the design of memory-efficient approaches is of high importance to this research area. In this paper, we address this problem by presenting a memory-efficient online hierarchical clustering algorithm called SparseHC. SparseHC scans a sorted and possibly sparse distance matrix chunk-by-chunk.
