Raman and infrared studies ofLa1−ySryMn1−xMxO3(M=Cr, Co, Cu, Zn, Sc or Ga): Oxygen disorder and local vibrational modes

2006

We present results of our study of polarized Raman scattering and infrared reflectivity of rhombohedral ceramic La1-ySryMn1-xMxO3 manganites in the temperature range between 77 and 320 K. In our samples, a part of the Mn atoms is substituted by M = Cr, Co, Cu, Zn, Sc, or Ga with x in the range 0-0.1. The hole concentration was kept at the optimal value of about 32% by tuning the Sr content y. We have monitored distortions of the oxygen sublattice by the presence of broad bands in the Raman spectra, the increase of dc resistivity extracted from the infrared reflectivity, and the change of the critical temperature of the ferromagnetic transition. Our results support the idea that these proper…

Structural and Magnetic Properties of Nickel Oxide Nanopowders

2010

Structure and magnetic properties of nickel oxide (NiO) nanopowders have been studied by X-ray/neutron diffraction, SQUID magnetometer, and micro-Raman spectroscopy. Our diffraction data indicate that at room temperature all NiO powders are antiferromagnetically ordered and have a rhombohedral (R-3m) phase. The SQUID magnetometry and Raman spectroscopy measurements support the presence of the antiferromagnetic ordering.

DFT calculations of structures, 13C NMR chemical shifts and Raman RBM mode of simple models of ultra small diameter (4,0) zigzag hydroxylated single …

2012

Abstract Selected acenes, cyclic acenes and model zigzag (4,0) single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with one hydroxylic group at the open end were fully optimized at the B3LYP/6-31G* level of theory. The impact of molecule size on the B3LYP/pcS-2 calculated 13 C NMR chemical shifts was studied to characterize pristine and tip-monofunctionalized ultra narrow SWCNTs. The harmonic frequency of Raman radial breathing mode (RBM) was determined for monohydroxylated cyclic acenes and correlated with their diameter. A regular convergence of selected CC bond lengths, RBM frequency and carbon chemical shifts upon increasing the size of the systems was observed and fitted toward very large systems wi…

Radiation stability of long-term annealed bi-phasic advanced ceramic breeder pebbles

2019

Abstract Advanced ceramic breeder pebbles consisting of Li4SiO4 and additions of Li2TiO3 were tested regarding their long-term thermal and to their radiation stability. As-prepared and long-term annealed pebbles were irradiated with accelerated electrons (up to 6 MGy) to investigate the formation of radiation-induced defects and radiolysis products caused by ionizing radiation. By using Raman spectroscopy the formation of significant amounts of radiolysis products can be excluded. Electron spin resonance spectrometry revealed several paramagnetic radiation-induced defects, such as HC2 centres ( SiO 4 3 - and TiO 3 - ), E’ centres ( SiO 3 3 - and TiO 3 3 - ), Ti 3 + centres and peroxide radi…

Raman Imaging of Single Carbon Nanotubes

2000

[19] The single crystals of the Bu4NBr0.6I1.4Cl salt, were obtained by addition of IBr to a solution of Bu4NCl in ethanol at a reagent ratio of 1:0.5. Stoichiometry of the anion has been found by EDX. Based on a Raman study the anion consists of the I2Br ‐ (band at 140 cm ‐1 ), IBr2 ‐ (band at 150‐ 176 cm ‐1 ), BrICl ‐ (band at 225 cm ‐1 ), and ICl2 ‐ (band at 250‐263 cm ‐1 ) trihalide anions. [20] The X-ray diffraction data from single crystals for both trihalide salts were measured using an Enraf Nonius CAD4 diffractometer with graphite monochromatic Mo Ka radiation (k = 0.71073 a) at room temperature. Unit cell parameters of the new a¢¢¢- crystal were determined from a leastsquares analy…

XAFS study of short range order in the heavily disordered MoxW1−wO3 oxides

1995

We have done comparative XAFS analysis on the MoK and WL 3 edges of polycrystalline Mo x W 1-x O 3 solid solutions. It was found that their structures are closely related to corner-shared WO 3 -type for x<0.9 while α-MoO 3 -type structure is present for x≥0.9. The obtained structural parameters for the first shell around metal ions allow to distinguish several structural phase transitions due to the change of composition. A set of subshells within the first shell was found, and they are in good agreement with Raman data

Growth and size distribution of Au nanoparticles in annealed Au/TiO2 thin films

2014

Abstract Nanocomposites consisting of noble metal nanoparticles (NPs) embedded in TiO2 thin films are of great interest for applications in optoelectronics, photocatalysis and solar-cells for which the plasmonic properties of the metal NPs play a major role. This work investigates the first stages of the formation of gold NPs by thermal annealing of Au-doped TiO2 thin films grown by magnetron sputtering. A low concentration of gold in the films is considered (5 at.%) in order to study the first stages of the formation of the NPs. Raman spectroscopy is used to follow the crystallization of TiO2 when increasing the annealing temperature. In addition, low-frequency Raman scattering (LFRS) is u…

Ag nanoparticles agargel nanocomposites for SERS detection of cultural heritage interest pigments

2018

Agarose gel (agargel) composites with commercial and laboratory made silver nanoparticles were prepared by a wet solution method at room temperature. The gel composites were used for pigment extraction and detection by Raman spectroscopy. Red (alizarin) and violet (crystal violet) pigments deposited on paper were extracted by the composites and were investigated by micro-Raman spectroscopy. Evaluation was carried out of the surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) effect induced by the silver nanoparticles embedded in the gel. A kinetic approach as a function of time was used to determine the efficiency of pigments extraction by composites deposition. A non-invasive extraction process of …

Deformation behavior and interfacial sliding in carbon/copper nanocomposite films deposited by high power DC magnetron sputtering

2015

Abstract Amorphous carbon–copper nanocomposite films with a carbon content from 7 to 40 at.% have been deposited onto steel, silicon and glass substrates using a high power (> 60 W/cm 2 ) and high-rate DC magnetron sputtering technique. XRD, Raman spectroscopy and TEM results confirm that the deposited films consist of copper nanograins (size
