Dual-broadband rotational CARS modelling of nitrogen at pressures up to 9 MPa. II. Rotational Raman line widths

2002

International audience; Rotational coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS) is a well-established spectroscopic technique for thermometry at pre-combustion temperatures an atmospheric pressure. However, at pressures of several MPa, a previous investigation revealed large discrepancies between experimental data and the theoretical model. A re-evaluation has been made of these data (at room temperature and in the range 1.5-9 MPa) with two improvements to the spectral code. The first is the inclusion of an inter-branch interference effect, which is described in detail in Paper I. The second is the use of experimental S-1-branch Raman line widths measured at 295 K, with a temperature depe…

Intramolecular charge delocalization and nonlinear optical properties of Methyl 3-(4-methoxy phenyl) prop-2-enoate from vibrational spectra

2005

The density functional computations of MMP are performed at B3LYP/6-31G (d,p) level to derive equilibrium geometry, vibrational wavenumbers and intensities, and first hyperpolarizability. Large NLO efficiency predicted for the first time in this new class of compounds has been confirmed by powder efficiency experiments. DFT calculation reveals that endocyclic angle at the junction of the propenoate group and the phenyl ring is decreased from 120° by 2.5°, whereas two neighbouring angles around the ring are increased by 2.1° and 1.2° respectively, associated with intramolecular charge transfer interaction. The vibrational spectra confirm the charge transfer interaction between -COOCH3 group…

Shot-by-shot frequency calibration of CARS spectra: Application to the measurement of the collisional line shift in oxygen

1996

A technique using a Fabry-Perot interferometer has been developed to calibrate high-resolution spectra obtained by Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Spectroscopy (CARS). This technique was used to measure simultaneously the Raman frequency and the Raman signal at each laser shot. We demonstrate the accuracy of the method by measuring theQ(15) line shifts of molecular oxygen due to collisions with oxygen and water vapour.

Ion irradiation of carbon nanotubes encapsulating cobalt crystals

2008

Abstract The response of multi-walled carbon nanotubes encapsulating Co nanorods to ion irradiation was studied. The irradiation experiments with medium ion energies (40–500 keV) were carried out at high temperatures and combined with transmission electron microscopy and Raman characterization of the irradiated samples. Contrary to electron irradiation and high-energy (100 MeV) ion irradiation, we did not see accumulation of pressure inside irradiated nanotubes. We found that nanotubes with Co nanorods inside were transformed to amorphous carbon rods encapsulating Co clusters with typical diameters of 3–6 nm. As Co is magnetic, such one-dimensional composite systems could be used for variou…

Influence of Fano resonance on SERS enhancement in Fano-plasmonic oligomers

2019

Plasmonic oligomers can provide profound Fano resonance in their scattering responses. The sub-radiant mode of Fano resonance can result in significant near-field enhancement due to its light trapping capability into the so-called hotspots. Appearance of these highly localized hotspots at the excitation and/or Stokes wavelengths of the analytes makes such oligomers promising SERS active substrates. In this work, we numerically and experimentally investigate optical properties of two disk-type gold oligomers, which have different strength and origin of Fano resonance. Raman analysis of rhodamine 6G and adenine with the presence of the fabricated oligomers clearly indicates that an increment …

Continuously tunable diamond Raman laser for resonance laser ionization.

2019

We demonstrate a highly efficient, tunable, ∼5 GHz line- width diamond Raman laser operating at 479 nm. The diamond laser was pumped by a wavelength-tunable intra- cavity frequency-doubled titanium sapphire (Ti:Sapphire) laser operating at around 450 nm, at a repetition rate of 10 kHz with a pulse duration of 50 ns. The Raman reso- nator produced a continuously tunable output with high stability, high conversion efficiency (28%), and beam quality (M$^{2}$ <1.2). We also demonstrate that the linewidth and tunability of the pump laser is directly transferred to the Stokes output. Our results show that diamond Raman lasers offer great potential for spectroscopic applications, such as resonance…

The fingerprint of Te-rich and stoichiometric Bi2Te3 nanowires by Raman spectroscopy

2016

We unambiguously show that the signature of Te-rich bismuth telluride is the appearance of three new peaks in the Raman spectra of Bi2Te3, located at 88, 117 and 137 cm−1 . For this purpose, we have grown stoichiometric Bi2Te3 nanowires as well as Te-rich nanowires. The absence of these peaks in stoichiometric nanowires, even in those with the smallest diameter, shows that they are not related to confinement effects or the lack of inversion symmetry, as stated in the literature, but to the existence of Te clusters. These Te clusters have been found in nonstoichiometric samples by high resolution electron microscopy, while they are absent in stoichiometric samples. The Raman spectra of the l…

Processing-structure-property relationships of electrospun PLA-PEO membranes reinforced with enzymatic cellulose nanofibers

2020

Abstract Three different solvent mixtures were used to prepare electrospun membranes based on polylactic acid (PLA), polyethylene oxide (PEO) and enzymatic cellulose nanofibers (CNF). The materials were characterized from a morphological, spectroscopic, mechanical and rheological point of view. Furthermore, swelling test were performed in order to assess the water uptake of each sample. The results put into evidence that the choice of the solvents affects the structure and the properties of the membranes. Among the protocols tested, using chloroform/acetone/ethanol mixture was found to allow a high degree of CNF dispersion and a good electrospinnability of polymer solutions. These features …

Influence of ZnO/graphene nanolaminate periodicity on their structural and mechanical properties

2018

International audience; Structural, electronic and mechanical properties of ZnO/Graphene (ZnO/G) nanolaminates fabricated by low temperature atomic layer deposition (ALD) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) were investigated. We performed scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM/TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), Raman spectroscopy, X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and nanoindentation to characterize the ZnO/G nanolaminates. The main structural and mechanical parameters of ZnO/G nanolaminates were calculated. The obtained results were analyzed and interpreted taking into account mechanical interaction and charge effects occurring at the …

Ab initio calculations of indium arsenide in the wurtzite phase: structural, electronic and optical properties

2013

Most III-V semiconductors, which acquire the zinc-blende phase as bulk materials, adopt the metastable wurtzite phase when grown in the form of nanowires. These are new semiconductors with new optical properties, in particular, a different electronic band gap when compared with that grown in the zinc-blende phase. The electronic gap of wurtzite InAs at the Gamma-point of the Brillouin zone (E0 gap) has been recently measured, E0 = 0.46 eV at low temperature. The electronic gap at the A point of the Brillouin zone (equivalent to the L point in the zinc-blende structure, E1) has also been obtained recently based on a resonant Raman scattering experiment. In this work, we calculate the band st…
