Quantum plasmonics with multi-emitters: application to stimulated Raman adiabatic passage

2018

We construct a mode-selective effective model describing the interaction of the localised surface plasmon polaritons (LSPs) supported by a spherical metal nanoparticle (MNP) with N quantum emitters (QEs) in an arbitrary geometric arrangement. Simplifying previously presented procedures, we develop a formulation in which the field response in the presence of the MNP can be decomposed into orthogonal modes, expanding the Green tensor of the system in the spherical vector harmonics basis and using the generalized global Löwdin orthogonalization algorithm. We investigate the possibility of using the LSPs as mediators of an efficient control of population transfer between two QEs. We show that a…

Orbital dimerization inNaTiSi2O6:An orbital analogue of the spin-Peierls phase transition

2004

We measure the Raman scattering spectra of NaTiSi2O6, analyze the vibrational properties, and study the origin of the phase transition in this compound. In this quasi-one-dimensional S = 1/2 system we observe anomalous high-temperature phonon broadenings, and large changes of the phonon energies and line-widths across the phase transition temperature of 210 K. These results, combined with theoretical considerations, indicate that the phonon anomalies originate from an orbital order-disorder type of phase transition. We find that the high temperature dynamical Jahn-Teller phase of NaTiSi2O6 exhibits a spontaneous breaking of translational symmetry into a dimerized, Jahn-Teller distorted, orb…

Second-order Raman scattering in CuO

2013

Polarized second-order Raman scattering spectra of CuO single crystals are reported. It is shown that for some scattering geometries the second-order processes dominate the inelastic light scattering spectra. Group-theoretical symmetry analysis of the selection rules for the first- and second-order scattering processes is performed and phonon dispersion relations are calculated within density functional theory. The main spectral features of the two-phonon spectra are assigned to overtones of the vibrational branches at various special points across the Brillouin zone.

Oligophenylenevinylenes in Spatially Confined Nanochannels: Monitoring Intermolecular Interactions by UV/Vis and Raman Spectroscopy

2008

Perhydrotriphenylene-based channel-forming inclusion compounds (ICs) and thin films made of polyphenylenevinylene (PPV)-type oligomers with terminal alkoxy groups are investigated and compared in a combined experimental and theoretical approach. Interchromophore interactions and host-guest interactions are elucidated by UV/Vis and Raman spectroscopy. The impact of the local environment of the chromophore on the optical and photophysical properties is discussed in light of quantum-chemical calculations. In stark contrast to thin films where preferential side-by-side orientation leads to quenching of photoluminescence (PL) via non-emissive traps, the ICs are found to be attractive materials f…

The interplay of crystallization kinetics and morphology during the formation of SnO2 nanorods: snapshots of the crystallization from fast microwave …

2011

A microwave-assisted reaction pathway to rutile SnO2nanorods was investigated. The microwave-treatment significantly reduces the reaction time compared to standard hydro-/solvothermal techniques. By moving the overall process into a shorter time slot, the growth and crystal formation during the reaction could be monitored via snapshots by trapping the intermediates through quenching. To gain a better insight into the template-free growth of one-dimensional (1D) nanostructures, a parameter-dependent (various temperatures/pressures and times were investigated) study was carried out. For all materials, the phase purity and crystallite sizes were determined by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). Th…

Observing myoglobin proteinquake with an X-ray free-electron laser

2015

The events following the photodissociation of the bond be- tween myoglobin and its ligand have been extensively studied with a variety of experimental, theoretical and computational methods [1]. The results of these investigations have been rationalized in terms of a model that implies a protein quake- like motion [2], i.e. the propagation of the strain released upon photoexcitation through the protein similar to the prop- agation of acoustic waves during an earthquake. The exper- imental investigations performed so far have been based on spectroscopic measurements or did not have sufficient time- resolution to measure the timescale of such “proteinquake”. We have obtained direct experiment…

Elektroforētiskā nogulsnēšanā iegūtu titāna dioksīda – volframa trioksīda pusvadītāju struktūra, absorbcijas un fotostrāvas mērījumi

2015

Elektroforētiskā nogulsnēšanas metodē iegūts TiO2–WO3 divkomponentu savienojuma pusvadītāju materiāls gan vienkāršās iegūšanas un lēto izmaksu dēļ, gan pateicoties tā jūtībai uz elektromagnētiskā starojuma redzamās un ultravioletās daļas, pēdējos gados ir strauji pētīts, jo ļauj aizsargāt metālus no korozijas, sniedz plašus pielietojumus ūdeņraža iegūšanas sistēmās, fotojūtīgu virsmu iegūšanā u.c. pielietojumos. Bakalaura darbā tiek ar Ramana izkliedi pārbaudīta elektroforētiskā nogulsnēšanas metodē iegūtu TiO2–WO3 divkomponentu savienojumu pusvadītāju materiālu struktūra, salīdzinot rezultātus ar citiem literatūrā atrodamiem struktūras analīzes rezultātiem. Mineralogical and chemical variability of fluvial sediments 2. Suspended-load silt (Ganga–Brahmaputra, Bangladesh)

2011

Sediments carried in suspension represent a fundamental part of fluvial transport. Nonetheless, largely because of technical problems, they have been hitherto widely neglected in provenance studies. In order to determine with maximum possible precision the mineralogy of suspended load collected in vertical profiles from water surface to channel bottom of Rivers Ganga and Brahmaputra, we combined Raman spectroscopy with traditional heavy-mineral and X-ray diffraction analyses, carried out separately on low-density and dense fractions of all significant size classes in each sample (multiple-window approach). Suspended load resulted to be a ternary mixture of dominant silt enriched in phyllosi…

Spherical top data system (STDS) software for the simulation of spherical top spectra

1998

Abstract The Spherical Top Data System (STDS) software package for the simulation of spherical top spectra is presented. It consists of a single UNIX script with self-explanatory arguments allowing the non-expert user to calculate spectra from the results of the high resolution analyses performed over the recent decades on this type of molecules. More than one hundred parameter files are presently available including various band systems of 16 molecular species (among which methane is the most documented) and various types of calculations: rovibrational energy levels, i.r. absorption, Raman scattering and Stark coefficients. STDS is freely accessible by anonymous ftp at jupiter.u-bourgogne.…

The nature of radiohaloes in biotite: Experimental studies and modeling

2001

Several micro-techniques (confocal laser-Raman microprobe, optical absorption micro-spectroscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, electron microprobe analysis) were employed in the detailed characterization of radiohaloes in biotites from two Variscan rocks from Germany. The studied biotites are intermediate members of the phlogopite-annite series with Mg/Fe 2+ ratios in the range 1.6–1.0. Radiohaloes in biotite resulted from the impact of 4 He cores (α-particles) emitted from actinide-bearing inclusions. Monte Carlo simulations yielded α ( 238 U, 235 U, and 232 Th series) penetration ranges in biotite between 12.5 and 37.3 μm, which are in reasonable agreement with the ob…
