Spectrofluorimetric Quantification of Malondialdehyde for Evaluation of Cyclooxygenase-1/Thromboxane Synthase Inhibition

The in vitro assay developed by Hartmann and Ledergerber (1995) utilizing the spectrofluorimetric quantification of malondialdehyde after reaction with thiobarbituric acid was modified and used for further investigations. The human whole blood was replaced by a platelet suspension of pig blood, and calcium ionophore A23187 was used instead of collagen for inducing the arachidonic acid cascade. The modified assay represents a simple, time and cost saving method for the evaluation of cyclooxygenase-1/thromboxane synthase inhibition. The reproducibility and comparability of results is given. Ab initio computational study on the lattice thermal conductivity of Zintl clathrates [Si19P4]Cl4 and Na4[Al4Si19]

The lattice thermal conductivity of silicon clathrate framework Si23 and two Zintl clathrates, [Si19P4]Cl4 and Na4[Al4Si19], is investigated by using an iterative solution of the linearized Boltzmann transport equation in conjunction with ab initio lattice dynamical techniques. At 300 K, the lattice thermal conductivities for Si23, [Si19P4]Cl4, and Na4[Al4Si19] were found to be 43 W/(m K), 25 W/(m K), and 2 W/(m K), respectively. In the case of Na4[Al4Si19], the order-of-magnitude reduction in the lattice thermal conductivity was found to be mostly due to relaxation times and group velocities differing from Si23 and [Si19P4]Cl4. Distribution of Cartilage Proteoglycan (Aggrecan) Core Protein and Link Protein Gene Expression during Human Skeletal Development

The distribution of cartilage proteoglycan core protein (aggrecan) and cartilage proteoglycan link protein was investigated by in situ hybridization during different stages of human skeletal development. Aggrecan and link protein expression were confined to chondrocytes of the developing skeleton and other cartilaginous structures. Distribution and intensity of the signal was identical with aggrecan as compared to link protein probes. Parallel to the calcification of cartilaginous matrix, chondrocytes of this area lost the expression of aggrecan and link protein specific mRNA and stayed negative throughout the following stages of skeletal development. Nitrate and bromide ions are generally considered indicators of anthropogenic pollution and seawater intrusion, respectively, in the groundwater of coastal territories. The analysis of these species is generally carried out with routine chromatographic analyses which generally afford partially merged or poorly resolved peaks. Se presenta un caso de linfomatosis intravascular cuyas primeras manifestaciones clínicas fueron síntomas pulmonares (tos no productiva, hipoxia y patrón radiológico reticulointersticial), seguidas de fiebre de origen desconocido y síndrome confusional. Collisional Raman Linewidths of Nitrogen at High-Temperature (1700-2400 K)

0146-9592; New high-temperature measurements of collisional linewidths of the Roman Q branch of nitrogen have been performed at 1700-2400 K with stimulated Raman spectroscopy in a tungsten filament. We fitted these data together with previous data obtained in the 295-1500-K range to redetermine the parameters of the relaxation models used in coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy thermometry. The improvement in the accuracy of the temperature measurement has been checked. Semiclassical calculations of linewidths in the 1700-2400-K range agree with the experimental data and have been extended to even higher temperatures.

Charged particle multiplicity distributions in restricted rapidity intervals in Z0 hadronic decays.

The multiplicity distributions of charged particles in restricted rapidity intervals in Z0 hadronic decays measured by the DELPHI detector are presented. The data reveal a shoulder structure, best visible for intervals of intermediate size, i.e. for rapidity limits around ±1.5. The whole set of distributions including the shoulder structure is reproduced by the Lund Parton Shower model. The structure is found to be due to important contributions from 3-and 4-jet events with a hard gluon jet.
