Angular momentum population in fragmentation reactions

2009

Neutron-deficient nuclei with N = 126 have been populated following projectile fragmentation of a 238U beam with energy 1 GeV/A. The decay of several previously reported isomers has been measured. This will allow us to calculate high-spin isomeric ratios and compare them with model calculations to allow a better understanding of the reaction mechanism. A Neandertal dietary conundrum: Insights provided by tooth enamel Zn isotopes from Gabasa, Spain

2022

The characterization of Neandertals’ diets has mostly relied on nitrogen isotope analyses of bone and tooth collagen. However, few nitrogen isotope data have been recovered from bones or teeth from Iberia due to poor collagen preservation at Paleolithic sites in the region. Zinc isotopes have been shown to be a reliable method for reconstructing trophic levels in the absence of organic matter preservation. Here, we present the results of zinc (Zn), strontium (Sr), carbon (C), and oxygen (O) isotope and trace element ratio analysis measured in dental enamel on a Pleistocene food web in Gabasa, Spain, to characterize the diet and ecology of a Middle Paleolithic Neandertal individual. Based on…

Distribution and sources of bulk organic matter (OM) on a tropical intertidal mud bank in French Guiana from elemental and isotopic proxies

2014

International audience; The mobile French Guiana coast is a shoreface region downdrift of the Amazon River, where enormous quantities of inorganic and organic materials are exchanged with the Atlantic Ocean. The rapid accumulation of these materials forms highly unstable shore-attached mud banks, which can be temporally emerged and then rapidly colonized and stabilized by microphytobenthos and opportunistic mangroves (i.e. Avicennia germinans). Mud banks are preferential sites for the accumulation and significant remineralization of organic matter (OM) due to intense erosion/deposition cycles and potential biological colonization. The distribution and sources of bulk sedimentary OM were cha…

The evolutionary dynamics of adaptive virginity, sex-allocation and altruistic helping in haplodiploid animals

2018

In haplodiploids, females can produce sons from unfertilized eggs without mating. However, virgin reproduction is usually considered to be a result of a failure to mate, rather than an adaptation. Here, we build an analytical model for evolution of virgin reproduction, sex-allocation, and altruistic female helping in haplodiploid taxa. We show that when mating is costly (e.g., when mating increases predation risk), virginity can evolve as an adaptive female reproductive strategy. Furthermore, adaptive virginity results in strongly divergent sex-ratios in mated and virgin queen nests ("split sex ratios"), which promotes the evolution of altruistic helping by daughters in mated queen nests. H…

Turnover ratios and profitability ratios calculation methods: the book or average value

2019

The scientific literature of the turnover ratios and profitability ratios calculation offers to use book or average value of balance sheet calculation methods. Different schools of financial analysis nowadays offer many variations of the ratio calculations and even though the components of ratio formulas change, the meaning stays the same. The aim of this research is to analyze the turnover and profitability ratios, to study the different methods of calculation, based on different schools of financial analysis and empirical research results, and to create proposals for companies for the use of these methods for financial analysis. The authors of this paper are using the international scient…

Precise measurements of half-lives and branching ratios for the ββ mirror transitions in the decay of 23Mg and 27Si

2017

Half-lives and branching ratios for the two mirror ββ decays of 23Mg and 27Si have been measured at the University of Jyväskylä with the IGISOL facility. The results obtained, T1/2=11.303(3)T1/2=11.303(3) s and T1/2=4.112(2)T1/2=4.112(2) s for the half-lives of 23Mg and 27Si , respectively, are 7 and 8 times more precise than the averages of previous measurements. The values obtained for the super-allowed branching ratios of 23Mg and 27Si are B.R.=92.18(8)%B.R.=92.18(8)% and B.R.=99.74(2)%B.R.=99.74(2)% , respectively. The result for 23Mg is three times more precise than the average of the previous measurements, while for 27Si the precision has not been improved, the average of the previous…

Measurements of the top quark branching ratios into channels with leptons and quarks with the ATLAS detector

2015

Measurements of the branching ratios of top quark decays into leptons and jets using events with t[bar over t] (top antitop) pairs are reported. Events were recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. The collected data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.6  fb[superscript −1]. The measured top quark branching ratios agree with the Standard Model predictions within the measurement uncertainties of a few percent.

The Large Hadron–Electron Collider at the HL-LHC

2021

The Large Hadron-Electron Collider (LHeC) is designed to move the field of deep inelastic scattering (DIS) to the energy and intensity frontier of particle physics. Exploiting energy-recovery technology, it collides a novel, intense electron beam with a proton or ion beam from the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). The accelerator and interaction region are designed for concurrent electron-proton and proton-proton operations. This report represents an update to the LHeC's conceptual design report (CDR), published in 2012. It comprises new results on the parton structure of the proton and heavier nuclei, QCD dynamics, and electroweak and top-quark physics. It is shown how the LH…
