Attenuation of NF-κB Signaling Response to UVB Light during Cellular Senescence
1999
The ability of cells to adapt to environmental stresses undergoes a progressive reduction during aging. NF-kappaB-mediated signaling is a major defensive system against various environmental challenges. The aim of this study was to find out whether replicative senescence affects the response of the NF-kappaB signaling pathway to UVB light in human WI-38 and IMR-90 fibroblasts. The exposure of early passage fibroblasts to UVB light inhibited the proliferation and induced a flat phenotype similar to that observed in replicatively senescent fibroblasts not exposed to UVB light. The UVB radiation dose used (153 mJ/cm2) did not induce apoptosis in either early or late passage WI-38 fibroblasts. …

STUDY OF LEG MOVEMENT IN ONE- AND TWO-LEGGED HOPPING
2012
This study was based on the previous research where mechanics of the leg-pushing phase in shot put was studied. The present paper examined the functional mechanics of leg movements during the ground contact of the jumps on one leg and on two legs. The principle of the measuring method was to photograph the movement in series of subject images on one frame where the marker lights attached to the subject can be seen as broken light-lines. The measuring accuracy of the system (time and distance) proved to be very high. This new measuring method is a useful complement to the existing methods. The aim of the study was to approximate the measured points by a suitable curve. Two equations (represe…
Store Brands in Tourist Services
2016
A current trend in retailing is the use of a brand extension strategy by supermarkets and hypermarkets, which enhances the store brand’s presence in a growing number of product categories. In the travel services domain, research on store brand extension is scarce. This research paper aims to fill in a gap on brand extension of current traditional store brands to travel services. Based on a sample of 608 individuals, our findings suggest that the likelihood of choosing a travel service offered by a local retailer (hypermarket/supermarket) is directly and positively conditioned by (1) the individual’s overall attitude towards store brands, (2) customer perception of the retailer’s trustworthi…
Trust enhancement of P2PSIP communication systems
2011
Today, peer-to-peer (P2P) session initiation protocol (SIP)-based communication systems have attracted much attention from both academia and industry. The decentralised nature of P2P might provide the distributed P2P communication system without help of the traditional SIP server. However, it comes to the cost of reduced trustworthiness and may cause security problems, e.g., privacy leaks, unpredictable availability, etc. In this paper, we investigate P2PSIP security issues and propose a subjective logic-based trust model that offers trust-based security services during P2PSIP session establishment. The main issues considered in this model include opinion calculation, opinion maintenance, d…
The min-max close-enough arc routing problem
2022
Abstract Here we introduce the Min-Max Close-Enough Arc Routing Problem, where a fleet of vehicles must serve a set of customers while trying to balance the length of the routes. The vehicles do not need to visit the customers, since they can serve them from a distance by traversing arcs that are “close enough” to the customers. We present two formulations of the problem and propose a branch-and-cut and a branch-and-price algorithm based on the respective formulations. A heuristic algorithm used to provide good upper bounds to the exact procedures is also presented. Extensive computational experiments to compare the performance of the algorithms are carried out.
Automating the Parameter Selection in VRP: An Off-line Parameter Tuning Tool Comparison
2014
Vehicle route optimization is an important application of combinatorial optimization. Therefore, a variety of methods has been proposed to solve different challenging vehicle routing problems. An important step in adopting these methods to solve real-life problems is to find appropriate parameters for the routing algorithms. In this chapter, we show how this task can be automated using parameter tuning by presenting a set of comparative experiments on seven state-of-the-art tuning methods. We analyze the suitability of these methods in configuring routing algorithms, and give the first critical comparison of automated parameter tuners in vehicle routing. Our experimental results show that t…
