Obtaining dynamic Norton parameters of a solar panel from manufacturer data
2016
Photovoltaic arrays have been shown to possess significant influence on the dynamic performance of coupled source-converter-load system while its dynamic resistance is the most important parameter, contributing to the overall system dynamics. In this paper, a method of deriving the parameters of linearized photovoltaic equivalent circuit from manufacturer data is proposed. The approach allows predicting the range of dynamic Norton parameters for the expected irradiation and temperature operation conditions thus defining clear bounds required for robust design of the system controller.
Task scheduling control of BGA solder joint process in flexible manufacturing system
2006
This paper describes an open loop control method of the solder joint process in a rework station for faulty printed circuit board (PCBs) containing electronic components in packages ball grid arrays (BGAs). In particular, a mathematical model describing the solder joint process is, first of all, obtained. Then, the desired thermal profile of the junctions BGA-PCB is determined according to the physical constraints of the rework station framework. The control parameters corresponding to the above desired thermal profile are identified using the above mathematical model. Finally, the open loop control algorithm is implemented on the supervisor interface of the rework station in order to carri…
Specific detection of cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers in phytoplankton DNA by a non-radioactive assay based on T4-endonuclease V digestion.
2001
The effect of artificial and natural UV irradiation on DNA in marine phytoplankton Isochrysis galbana monoculture was investigated. The presence of cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs) in unlabelled I. galbana DNA was detected by a non-radiometric alkaline filter elution assay after T4-endonuclease V digestion. The quantity of CPDs was estimated by alkaline agarose gel electrophoresis. Precise determination of the amount of DNA in the presence of I. galbana pigments was achieved by oxazole yellow homodimer (YOYO) dye. T4-endonuclease V-sensitive sites frequency (ESS/kb), measured after exposure to 2-40 kJ m(-2) of artificial UV light, increased in a dose-dependent manner. Twelve hours after…
Speciation and Mobility of Arsenic in Agricultural Lime
2009
Agricultural liming materials are used to correct soil acidity and to improve plant growth and microbial functionality. A relatively low-grade agricultural lime was found to contain up to 125 mg kg(-1) arsenic (As), which is above any fertilizing materials code threshold. The color of the milled material is brown due to ample oxide dendrites. Microprobe elemental maps confirmed that these accessory oxide mineral phases are responsible for the elevated As concentrations in the limestone. The black Mn-bearing dendrites contain minor amounts of As, whereas the brown Fe-bearing dendrites contain the major part of the As inventory, with an Fe/As molar ratio around 100. Because the elemental maps…
Features and application of coupled cold plasma and photocatalysis processes for decontamination of water
2020
Dielectric barrier discharge plasma and photocatalysis have been proposed as tools for decontamination of process water, especially in food industry. The present investigation aims to redefine and identify the features of coupling the two technologies in terms of degradation efficiency of a model compound. Results show that, when the process is carried out in plasma activated water in the presence of irradiated TiO2, the efficiency of the integrated process is lower than the sum of the two processes acting separately. It is proposed that afterglow species, e.g. hydrogen peroxide and/or peroxynitrites could be activated by UVA light irradiation producing hydroxyl radicals in the liquid phase…
A survey of photocatalytic materials for environmental remediation
2012
Abstract Heterogeneous photocatalysis is an advanced oxidation process which has been the subject of a huge amount of studies related to air cleaning and water purification. All these processes have been carried out mainly by using TiO 2 -based materials as the photocatalysts and ca. 75% of the articles published in the last 3 years is related to them. This review illustrates the efforts in the search of alternative photocatalysts that are not based on TiO 2 , with some exceptions concerning particularly innovative modifications as nanoassembled TiO 2 or TiO 2 composites with active carbon, graphite and fullerene. Papers reporting preparation, characterization and testing of binary, ternary…
Continuous monitoring of photocatalytic treatment by flow injection. Degradation of dicamba in aqueous TiO2 dispersions
2001
The possible use of flow injection (FI) to monitor the photocatalytic mineralization of dicamba (3,6-dichloro-2-methoxybenzoic acid) present at the trace level in aqueous solutions containing TiO2 suspensions has been evaluated. Experiments were performed in a stirred photochemical reactor equipped with a simple FI manifold, integrating an online filtration unit able to perform the monitoring of the UV absorbance of the irradiated solution every 4 min. The light source used was a medium pressure mercury lamp (125 W). During the initial steps of the reaction the formation of UV absorbing intermediates, which completely disappear in less than 80 min, was evidenced. Additional HPLC, DOC and ch…
Simulated solar UV-irradiation of endocrine disrupting chemical octylphenol.
2009
The photolysis of octylphenol (OP) was investigated using a solar simulator in the absence/presence of dissolved natural organic matter (DNOM), HCO(3)(-), NO(3)(-) and Fe(III) ions. The effects of different parameters such as initial pH, initial concentration of substrate, temperature, and the effect of hydrogen peroxide concentration on photodegradation of octylphenol in aqueous solution have been assessed. The results indicate that the oxidation rate increases in the presence of H(2)O(2), nitrate and DNOM. Phenol, 1,4-dihydroxylbenzene and 1,4-benzoquinone were identified as intermediate products of photodegradation of octylphenol, through an HPLC method. In addition, the disappearance of…
A field methodology to study effects of UV radiation on fish larvae.
2003
There is a considerable lack of in situ specific information about the effects of UV-B radiation on limnic animals studied in the field. We exposed larval pike (Esox lucius L.) in two types of cuvettes (glass and quartz) placed at different depths (5 or 15 cm) to natural solar UV or to artificially enhanced UV-B (lamps on 3 h per day), simulating the scenarios for coming decades. Dose realism and comparability with earlier laboratory experiments was the main purpose, and therefore UV-B irradiances to the surface as well as underwater irradiances were directly measured. Result showed that UV-B dose rates in natural waters are low even though DOC concentration was low (4.8 mg/l) in our study …
Assessment of fungi proliferation and diversity in cultural heritage: Reactions to UV-C treatment.
2018
International audience; Fungi are present in natural and non-touristic caves due to the presence of organic matter provided mainly by insects or animals such as bats. In show caves, however, tourist infrastructure and the visitors themselves are an important source of organic matter. In addition, photosynthetic biofilms provide a high amount of carbon and nitrogen sources for fungi. This study was conducted to identify the fungal communities present in caves along with the potential use of UV-C treatment against their proliferation. Thus, fungal communities proliferating in biofilms in six French and Swiss show caves were analyzed using high throughput sequencing. The results show 385 speci…
