Analysis of the spatial distribution of free radicals in ammonium tartrate by pulse EPR techniques

Using pulse electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) on a series of l(+)-ammonium tartrate (AT) dosimeters exposed to radiations with different linear energy transfer (LET), we assessed the ability of pulse EPR spectroscopy to discriminate the quality of various radiation beams such as (60)Co gamma-ray photons, protons and thermal neutrons at various doses by analyzing the local radical distributions produced by the different beams. Electrodeposition of CeO2 and Co-Doped CeO2 Nanotubes by Cyclic Anodization in Porous Alumina Membranes

An anodic electrodeposition process is proposed to prepare CeO2 and Co-doped CeO2 nanotubes. Anodic alumina membrane is used as template and linear sweep voltammetry is employed to allow the formation of nanotubes without alumina dissolution. SEM micrographs showed large arrays of well defined and aligned NTs, which resulted to be crystalline soon after deposition according to XRD diffraction patterns and Raman Spectroscopy.

Very often, chemical transformations require tedious and long procedures, which, sometimes, can be avoided using alternative methods and media. New protocols, enabling us to save time and solvents, allow us also to explore new reaction profiles. This Tutorial Review focuses on the physical and chemical behavior of carbon nanoforms, CNFs (fullerenes, nanotubes, nanohorns, graphene, etc.) when non-conventional methods and techniques, such as microwave irradiation, mechano-chemistry or highly ionizing radiations are employed. In addition, the reactivity of CNFs in non-conventional media such as water, fluorinated solvents, supercritical fluids, or ionic liquids is also discussed.
A method for detecting malfunctions in PV solar panels based on electricity production monitoring

In this paper a new method is developed for automatically detecting outliers or faults in the solar energy production of identical sets (sister arrays) of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels. The method involves a two-stage unsupervised approach. In the first stage, "in control" energy production data are created by using outlier detection methods and functional principal component analysis in order to remove global and local outliers from the data set. In this White Paper we present the potential of the Enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry (eXTP) mission for determining the nature of dense matter; neutron star cores host an extreme density regime which cannot be replicated in a terrestrial laboratory. The tightest statistical constraints on the dense matter equation of state will come from pulse profile modelling of accretion-powered pulsars, burst oscillation sources, and rotation-powered pulsars. Scaler mode technique for the ARGO-YBJ detector

The ARGO-YBJ experiment has been designed to study the Extensive Air Showers with an energy threshold lower than that of the existing arrays by exploiting the high altitude location(4300 m a.s.l. in Tibet, P.R. China) and the full ground plane coverage. The lower energy limit of the detector (E $\sim$ 1 GeV) is reached by the scaler mode technique, i.e. recording the counting rate at fixed time intervals. At these energies, transient signals due to local (e.g. Forbush Decreases) and cosmological (e.g. Gamma Ray Bursts) phenomena are expected as a significant variation of the counting rate compared to the background. Search for Neutrino‐induced Cascades from Gamma‐Ray Bursts with AMANDA

Using the neutrino telescope AMANDA-II, we have conducted two analyses searching for neutrino-induced cascades from gamma-ray bursts. No evidence of astrophysical neutrinos was found, and limits are presented for several models. We also present neutrino effective areas which allow the calculation of limits for any neutrino production model. The first analysis looked for a statistical excess of events within a sliding window of 1 or 100 seconds (for short and long burst classes, respectively) during the years 2001-2003. The resulting upper limit on the diffuse flux normalization times E^2 for the Waxman-Bahcall model at 1 PeV is 1.6 x 10^-6 GeV cm^-2 s^-1 sr^-1 (a factor of 120 above the the…
