An innovative moment resisting steel connection: optimal design formulations, practical applications and experimental tests
2023
This thesis concerns the study of an innovative moment resisting connection device to be adopted in the so-called moment resisting steel frames. Following previous seismic events, such as Northridge in 1994, many steel structures characterized by welded connections between beams and columns experienced extended damages and diffused brittle failures, making the facilities unserviceable and economically disadvantageous to repair. The answers to this problem is represented by a large number of studies, where several proposals for different devices, as well as special technical solutions, are available. However, the main idea developed among all the proposals is represented by the identificatio…
Ārsta ambulatorā darba struktūra psihiatrijā
2017
Darba aktualitāte: Ambulatorās darba struktūras kvalitatīva darbība psihiatrijā ir sabiedrības garīgās veselības pamats. Šī pētījuma veikšanas iemesls ir arvien pieaugošās prasības dokumentācijas aizpildīšanai ambulatorajās praksēs, nepalielinot tam paredzēto laiku un personālu. Rezultātā, iespējams, zūd daba kvalitāte, ārsts tiek nevajadzīgi pārslogots, pietrūkst laika rekomendāciju sniegšanai. Mērķis: Izvērtēt vizītei paredzētā laika izlietojumu, sniegt rekomendācijas psihiatra ambulatorā darba uzlabošanai. Materiāli un metodes: Pētījums – aprakstošs, analītisks, vairāku grupu, salīdzinošs, nejaušināts. Izmantotā metode – hronometrēšana; tika uzņemts pacienta vizītes laiks pie psihiatra, …
Verbal compounding in Latin: the case of -MAKE verbs
2013
This paper aims at describing Latin compound verbs (CVs) whose second member is a verbal constituent connected with facio ‘to make’. Though there is a large literature on CVs in other languages, little has been said on Latin (Flobert 1978; Fruyt 2001 inter al.). CVs are extremely interesting in several respects. First, compared to Latin nominal compounds, whose core consists of exocentric formations, -MAKE CVs are endocentric constructions (Brucale 2012). Second, they represent an island of productivity in the generally unproductive area of verbal compounding in Latin. Third, they can be compared to analogous constructions in other Indo-European languages, viz. Persian and Hindi, which exhi…
Paths of grammaticalization of Early Latin per/per-: A cognitive hypothesis
2016
The paper describes the semantic network of the Early Latin preverb per- and its relation with the corresponding preposition per ‘through’. Making use of the Cognitive Grammar framework, we argue that the basic spatial semantics of both preverb and preposition (here called the “PER relation”) can account for the whole set of concrete and abstract meanings per and per- express. In spite of this common semantic nucleus, however, per- and per differ as to the mechanisms at work in the development and organization of their semantic continua, thus imposing a differentiated analysis at the semantic as well as the morphosyntactic level. In this respect, the notions of grammaticalization and lexica…

Bene : Adverb or noun?
2013
International audience; When Italian bene ‘good / well’ occurs with fare ‘do / make’, several constructs with remarkably different argument frames are involved. This paper deals with three of them: (a) Il latte fa bene ai bambini ‘Milk is good for children’; (b) Fa bene il suo lavoro ‘She does her job well’, and (c) Faresti bene a non dire niente ‘You would do well to say nothing about it’. We discuss dictionary discrepancies concerning the lexical category of 'bene' in (a), which we take to be a noun predicate, and draw a distinction between the adverbial uses in (b) and (c).
[EN] The Declamation XXVI by Libanius shows a misanthrope who does not support noises and is married with a talkative woman. The topic of the excessive talkativeness has a broad reflection in proverbs –also present in the comedy–, which the author uses to breathe …
