We investigated the correlation between Chlamydia pneumoniae acute infection and plaque rupture. Methods. Several studies suggest that fibrinogen may be considered an independent risk factor for coronary artery disease, but it is still on debate if we need its evaluation during an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) to prevent future fatal or non-fatal cardiovascular events. Therefore, we decided to investigate this field. Methods: We studied 92 male patients with AMI, evaluating at admission age, body mass index, systolic blood pressure, cigarette smoking, ejection fraction, plasma levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, fibrinogen, glycemia, and white blood cell count. Myocarditis is today an underdiagnosed cause of acute sudden death, heart failure, and chronic dilated cardiomyopathy. Its diagnosis is frequently missed or delayed and it can simulate an acute coronary syndrome because of its clinical presentation and elevation of cardiac enzymes. Cardiac Magnetic Resonance has become the leading modality for its noninvasive diagnosis, and it often replaces endomyocardial biopsy in clinical practise.

Abstract Myocardial infarction (MI) induces a sterile inflammatory response that contributes to adverse cardiac remodeling. The initiating mechanisms of this response remain incompletely defined. We found that necrotic cardiomyocytes released a heat-labile proinflammatory signal activating MAPKs and NF-κB in cardiac fibroblasts, with secondary production of cytokines. Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from permafrost-affected terrestrial ecosystems have received little attention, largely because they have been thought to be negligible. Recent studies, however, have shown that there are habitats in subarctic tundra emitting N2O at high rates, such as bare peat surfaces on permafrost peatlands. The processes behind N2O production in these high-emitting habitats are, however, poorly understood. Hemodynamic effects of experimental testicular torsion.

Experimental testicular torsion must be used for certain studies of clinical relevance, but most experimental models either do not provide hemodynamic alteration comparable to the clinical situation or cannot guarantee reproducibility. Using a rat model arterial perfusion and hemorrhagic infarction were correlated to the degree of both intra- and extravaginal testicular torsion. Arterial inflow was measured sequentially with radiolabelled microspheres, hemorrhagic infarction was judged by the increase of testicular weight. Maximal hemorrhagic infarction and reproducible values were found when the spermatic cord was twisted together with the tunica vaginalis for 360 degrees-540 degrees.

Selective nerve root block by a transforaminal approach with radiological control allows injection of an appropriate corticosteroid next to the nerve root, although it has been associated with major neurological complications in a few cases. There have been several reports in which corticosteroid injections performed at the level of the cervical or lumbar spine have led to severe spinal cord ischemic infarction. These have occurred independently of whether the procedure was performed under radiological control, in which the tip of the needle is identified to prevent vascular spreading of the solution injected.
