“Opportunities, but Nothing Very Concrete” : The Challenge Finns Face with Chinese Delegations’ General Level of Interest in Finland

This paper explores the challenge of finding common ground between the Finns and the Chinese in the context of co-operation, trade and inward investment facilitation related to general lack of specific interest displayed by the Chinese. The article is ethnographic in nature and is mainly based on data obtained from interviewing individuals working for local governments in Finland and one of the state agencies responsible for attracting foreign investment. The study uses Speech Codes Theory (Philipsen, 1997) when analyzing the cultural aspects of expectations regarding communication between Chinese and Finns. Artykuł poświęcony jest analizie translatorycznej powieści Brygidy Helbig pt. Niebko (2013) oraz jej niemieckiego przekładu (Kleine Himmel, 2019). Porównanie obu wersji pozwala stwierdzić liczne rozbieżności. Przyjęta perspektywa translatologiczna ma charakter interdyscyplinarny, łączy elementy językoznawcze oraz literaturoznawcze. Wnioski z analizy stanowią przyczynek do refleksji na temat przekładu literatury interkulturowej, zjawiska autotranslacji oraz redefinicji pojęcia „przekład”.

El mercurio es un metal tóxico ampliamente distribuido en el medioambiente. Las formas químicas mayoritarias en los alimentos son el mercurio mercúrico [Hg(II)] y el metilmercurio (CH3Hg). La principal vía de exposición para el ser humano la constituye la dieta, siendo los productos pesqueros los que mayor aporte de mercurio realizan. Climate simulations by 16 atmospheric general circulation models (AGCMs) are compared on an aqua-planet, a water-covered Earth with prescribed sea surface temperature varying only in latitude. The idealised configuration is designed to expose differences in the circulation simulated by different models. Basic features of the aqua-planet climate are characterised by comparison with Earth. The models display a wide range of behaviour. The balanced component of the tropospheric mean flow, and mid-latitude eddy covariances subject to budget constraints, vary relatively little among the models. This paper examines the relationship between body composition and earnings in a developing country setting. We use body mass index, waist circumference and hip circumference. Exploiting the panel structure of our longitudinal survey, we find that along with BMI, waist circumference is related to higher earnings in Indonesia. peerReviewed

Background Health status is a principal determinant of labour market participation. In this study, we examined whether excess weight is associated with withdrawal from the labour market owing to premature retirement. Methods The analyses were based on nationally representative data from Finland over the period 2001–15 (N ∼ 2500). The longitudinal data included objective measures of body weight (i.e. body mass index and waist circumference) linked to register-based information on actual retirement age.
