Fabrication and characterization of nanostructured Ni and Pd electrodes for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in water-alkaline electrolyzer

2017

In the field of water-alkaline electrolyzer, the development of nanoporous low cost nickel electrodes is one of the potential approaches to increase electrocatalytic activity. Template electrodeposition is a facile and cheap technique for obtaining Ni nanowires (NWs) with high surface area. These nanostructures were fabricated by a two-step procedure. In the first step, a Ni compact layer was deposited on one side of the template where a gold film was previously sputtered, while, in the second-step, an ordered array of Ni-NWs was obtained by electrodeposition inside the template channels. The NWs were firmly connected to the underlying Ni layer, acting as a current collector. In order to en…

Growth and Electrochemical Performance of Lead and Lead Oxide Nanowire Arrays as Electrodes for Lead-Acid Batteries

2013

n this work, we present the growth and electrochemical performance of nanostructured lead and lead oxide electrodes for lead-acid batteries. The electrodes were obtained by template electrodeposition in polycarbonate membranes, acting as template. Electrochemical tests were conducted at constant current in 5M aqueous solution of sulphuric acid, after assembling nanostructured lead and lead oxide electrodes in a zero-gap configuration using a commercially available separator. The main advantages of these electrodes are the high specific energy and power density, and the wide surface area, about 70 times higher than the geometrical one. These features allowed high discharge rates, up to 20C. …

Hold-in, Pull-in and Lock-in Ranges for Phase-locked Loop with Tangential Characteristic of the Phase Detector

2019

In the present paper the phase-locked loop (PLL), an electric circuit widely used in telecommunications and computer architectures is considered. A new modification of the PLL with tangential phase detector characteristic and active proportionally-integrating (PI) filter is introduced. Hold-in, pull-in and lock-in ranges for given circuit are studied rigorously. It is shown that lock-in range of the new PLL model is infinite, compared to the finite lock-in range of the classical PLL. peerReviewed

Design and simulation of QCA-based 3-bit binary to gray and vice versa code converter in reversible and non-reversible mode

2022

The current Very Large-Scale Integration (VLSI) technology has reached its peak due to the fundamental physical limits of Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS). Quantum-dot Cellular Automata (QCA) is considered a proper alternative to CMOS technology in digital circuit design. QCA has features like low power, small area, and high speed in nanoscale digital circuit design. A code converter is a circuit that converts a determined code to another one. Code converters such as Binary to Gray, Gray to Binary, and Binary to BCD converters have a crucial role in fast signal processing in digital systems. Also, code converters are used as a base unit for data transmission into the Arithmeti…

A virtual reality system for the treatment of stress-related disorders: A preliminary analysis of efficacy compared to a standard cognitive behaviora…

2011

This paper presents preliminary efficacy data in a controlled study of the use of a virtual reality (VR) system for treating stress-related disorders (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD; Pathological Grief, or PG; and Adjustment Disorders, or AD). ''EMMA's World'' is a VR application in which patients can explore negative experiences to the degree required for their specific therapeutic needs. To accomplish therapeutic goals, a series of virtual elements is customized to be meaningful to the user; the elements contain the fundamental emotional components that the person must confront. Thirty-nine participants diagnosed with PTSD (N=10), PG (N=16), and AD (N=13) were randomly assigned t…

Miniature wireless photoplethysmography devices: integration in garments and test measurements

2012

Wireless PPG devices were developed and embedded in everyday clothes (bandage, scarf, cycling glove and wrist strap) to monitor cardiovascular state of free-moving persons. The corresponding software for measurements also has been developed and tested in laboratory. Real-time measurements of PPG signals were taken in parallel with a professional ECG reference device, and high correlation was demonstrated.

Proceedings of the Eighth Annual Deep Brain Stimulation Think Tank: Advances in Optogenetics, Ethical Issues Affecting DBS Research, Neuromodulatory …

2021

We estimate that 208,000 deep brain stimulation (DBS) devices have been implanted to address neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders worldwide. DBS Think Tank presenters pooled data and determined that DBS expanded in its scope and has been applied to multiple brain disorders in an effort to modulate neural circuitry. The DBS Think Tank was founded in 2012 providing a space where clinicians, engineers, researchers from industry and academia discuss current and emerging DBS technologies and logistical and ethical issues facing the field. The emphasis is on cutting edge research and collaboration aimed to advance the DBS field. The Eighth Annual DBS Think Tank was held virtually on Septem…

Red blood cell distribution width: A marker of anisocytosis potentially associated with atrial fibrillation

2019

The incorporation of biomarkers in the actually used risk scores seem to be helpful for early identifying atrial fibrillation (AF) patients at higher risk. The aim of this critical review of the scientific literature is to investigate the potential clinical significance of red blood cell distribution width (RDW) in AF. A systematic electronic search was carried out to identify all articles describing an epidemiological association between RDW and AF in adult human populations. Data abstraction was conducted on a final number of 35 articles (13 cross-sectional, 12 prospective and 10 retrospective studies). The results of these epidemiological investigations were all virtually concordant to e…

2015

Mobile platform for multimodal skin assessment has been developed. Different illumination sources allow switching between modalities. Diffuse reflectance spectral imaging is provided by five LEDs, fluorescence is excited by 405 nm LEDs, and laser speckle by 650 nm laser diode. Handheld, battery powered device includes all light sources and color camera with USB. The core of the system is Linux OS embedded microcontroller. USB, FTP and HTML with JavaScript combination is used to create standard image transfer and control interface. In combination with built in WiFi access point it allows online skin images storage and processing. It means that data processing algorithms are located and updat…
