Idee e proposte dai piani.
2011
Palermo was a town still ravaged by war - as Argan reported and he stated that: >. In fact the outcome in terms of damages caused by the war was huge, as entire monuments and considerable urban environments had disappeared into large cavities. In particular, the Teatro Marittimo area, between the Foro Italico and the Cala, became one of the largest sites of ruins created by the war in Italy. With the reconstruction plan approved in 1947 certain indiscriminately destructive principles reappeared in planning policies, such as the implicit request for a new parallel road upstream the 17th century Street called via Maqueda the third road crossing the old town centre, which had been already draw…
A memetic approach to discrete tomography from noisy projections
2010
Discrete tomography deals with the reconstruction of images from very few projections, which is, in the general case, an NP-hard problem. This paper describes a new memetic reconstruction algorithm. It generates a set of initial images by network flows, related to two of the input projections, and lets them evolve towards a possible solution, by using crossover and mutation. Switch and compactness operators improve the quality of the reconstructed images during each generation, while the selection of the best images addresses the evolution to an optimal result. One of the most important issues in discrete tomography is known as the stability problem and it is tackled here, in the case of no…
[Re]Constructing Lost Realities, Possible Worlds and Future Perspectives Through Digital and Public Humanities
2022
The 2022 volume of Magazén is devoted to practical aspects in the Digital and Public Humanities. The first issue is thus entitled [re]constructions, focusing on the wide array of practices that prospered in our wide field for [re]configuring lost realities, [re]creating long gone dimensions, [re]building likely scenarios, [re]considering exhibition settings, and [re]covering disappeared traces of historical and cultural value.
Does the 5-strand-graft have superior biomechanical behaviour than 4-strand-graft during acl reconstruction?
2019
Purpose. This study aimed to compare the biomechanical proprieties of 4 and 5-strand- grafts. Methods. For the present study, fresh-frozen bovine common digital extensor tendons were used. Tendon grafts were prepared and sized to have a length of almost 27 cm and a cylinder 4 strand diameter of 8 mm. In half of all samples (Group A, n=12,), the graft was formed by 2 bundles duplicated around a metallic rod creating a 4-strand-tendon construct. In the other half of samples (Group B, n= 12,) 5-strand-tendon construct was created duplicating a single tendon around the rod, and tripling the other one. The grafts were preconditioned at 50 N for 10 min, followed by 1,000 cyclic loading between 50…

Fast adaptive frame preprocessing for 3D reconstruction
2015
Abstract: This paper presents a new online preprocessing strategy to detect and discard ongoing bad frames in video sequences. These include frames where an accurate localization between corresponding points is difficult, such as for blurred frames, or which do not provide relevant information with respect to the previous frames in terms of texture, image contrast and non-flat areas. Unlike keyframe selectors and deblurring methods, the proposed approach is a fast preprocessing working on a simple gradient statistic, that does not require to compute complex time-consuming image processing, such as the computation of image feature keypoints, previous poses and 3D structure, or to know a prio…
INTEGRATED SURVEYING AND MODELING TECHNIQUES FOR THE DOCUMENTATION AND VISUALIZATION OF THREE ANCIENT HOUSES IN THE MEDITERRANEAN AREA
2015
The paper is focused on the layout and testing of a workflow for the documentation of archeological remains, addressed to the study, visualization and information data input. Topographic, laser scanning and photogrammetric data have been used to build up 3D textured models of three ancient houses built in Sicily and in Tunisia in the Hellenistic and Roman age. 3D models have been used to extract conventional representations (plans and sections), analyze the geometric and proportional features and propose a virtual reconstruction of the original layout. The final step of the research work has been addressed to the creation of a web-based tools for the visualization of the models addressed to…
Restoration of Digitized Damaged Photos using Bit-Plane Slicing
2007
Digital image restoration aims to recover damaged zones of a digital image, using surrounding information. In this paper we propose a novel approach, based on bit-plane slicing decomposition, with the purpose to make information analysis and reconstruction process easy, fast and effective. Tests have been made on digitized damaged old photos to restore several classes of typical defects in old photographic prints.
