Dynamics at the Temperature Crossover in Dilute Polymer Solutions Investigated by Neutron Spin-Echo Spectroscopy

Applying ultrahigh-resolution neutron spin-echo spectroscopy the existence of a $q$-dependent temperature crossover in the dynamics of dilute polymer solutions was proved. It is associated with the transition from $\ensuremath{\theta}$ to good solvent conditions. At small momentum transfers $q$ a nearly stepwise increase of the reduced quasielastic linewidth versus the reduced temperature was observed. With increasing $q$, both the sharpness of the transition and the step height decrease.

Redox signaling in acute pancreatitis

Acute pancreatitis is an inflammatory process of the pancreatic gland that eventually may lead to a severe systemic inflammatory response. A key event in pancreatic damage is the intracellular activation of NF-κB and zymogens, involving also calcium, cathepsins, pH disorders, autophagy, and cell death, particularly necrosis. This review focuses on the new role of redox signaling in acute pancreatitis. E0 suppression in pion photoproduction on 13C

Abstract Recently measured anomalously low cross sections for 13 C(γ, π − ) 13 N at low energy and θ π lab = 90° 0761 have been analyzed in a DWIA calculation. It has been found that the EO contribution alone is able to explain the data, so that the M1 cross section is expected to vanish. Using constraints from recent magnetic electron scattering, an explanation is possible by assuming a significantly lower reduced density matrix element for spin-flip isovector transitions with angular momentum L = 2 than predicted by Cohen and Kurath.

First Antiprotons in an Ion Trap

Measurements of the antiproton mass[2,3,4,5] are represented in Fig. 1. All of these are deduced from measurements of the energy of x-rays radiated from highly excited exotic atoms. For example, if an antiproton is captured in a Pb atom, it can make radiative transitions from its n = 20 to n = 19 state. The antiproton is still well outside the nucleus in this case, so that nuclear effects can be neglected. The measured transition energy is essentially proportional to the reduced mass of the nucleus and hence the antiproton mass can be deduced by comparing the measured values with theoretical values, corrected for QED effects. Adiabatic Time-Dependent Hartree-Fock Calculations of the Optimal Path, the Potential, and the Mass Parameter for Large-Amplitude Collective Motion

The adiabatic time-dependent Hartree-Fock theory is reformulated in order to yield a simple differential equation for the collective path with accompanying simple expressions for the collective mass and the potential. With use of three-dimensional coordinate- and momentum-space techniques and density-dependent interactions, the new adiabatic time-dependent Hartree-Fock formalism is applied to $\ensuremath{\alpha}\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\alpha}$ scattering and correspondingly to the fission mode of $^{8}\mathrm{Be}$. In the overlapping region the resulting collective mass deviates strongly from the reduced mass.

Variable masses in fission and heavy-ion collisions

With the use of the cranking formula, the coordinate-dependent mass parameters of the kinetic-energy operator in fission processes and heavy-ion collisions are calculated in the two-center oscillator model. It is shown that the reduced mass and also the classical moment of inertia are obtained for large separations of the fragments. For small separations, however, the mass parameter for the motion of the centers of mass of the fragments is larger than the reduced mass by an order of magnitude.

The article presents theoretical foundations of application of the reduced I-V Blaesser’s characteristics in predicting a photovoltaic cell/module (PV) efficiency, together with calculation procedures.
