ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES BELOW MUNICIPAL LEVEL: TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE NEIGHBOURHOODS AND SMALL COMMUNITIES. POSITION OF THE EUROPEAN COMMITTEE OF THE REG…

2020

This work is inspired by the accompanying report to the opinion, presented to the European Committee of the Regions and approved by a large majority in Brussels on February 12, 2020, honouring, on the day of the 40th anniversary of the assassination, the memory of Prof. Vittorio Bachelet, vice-president of the Italian Superior Council of the Judiciary, murdered by terrorist hands at the end of the lesson of administrative law at the Faculty of Political Science at the University "La Sapienza" in Rome. The sacrifice of this courageous Catholic jurist is a perennial warning of democratic civilization against the darkness of reason of those who practice hatred and violence.

Measurements of Collisional Line Widths in the Stimulated Raman Q-Branch of the v1 Band of Silane

1990

0377-0486; Self-broadened widths of 28SiH4 in the v1 Q-branch have been measured at room temperature (295 K) using high-resolution stimulated Raman spectroscopy. These collisional widths have been obtained by fitting a superposition of Voigt profiles to the experimental spectra in the pressure range 28-154 Torr. No evidence for line mixing within the tetrahedral components of a Q(J) line has been found. The line broadening coefficients for J up to 13 depend weakly on the rotational quantum number. The mean value is 103.7 x 10(-3) cm-1 atm-1.

Comparison of lower limb segments kinematics in taekwondo kick. an approach to the proximal to distal motion

2015

Abstract In taekwondo, there is a lack of consensus about how the kick sequence occurs. The aim of this study was to analyse the peak velocity (resultant and value in each plane) of lower limb segments (thigh, shank and foot), and the time to reach this peak velocity in the kicking lower limb during the execution of the roundhouse kick technique. Ten experienced taekwondo athletes (five males and five females; mean age of 25.3 ±5.1 years; mean experience of 12.9 ±5.3 years) participated voluntarily in this study performing consecutive kicking trials to a target located at their sternum height. Measurements for the kinematic analysis were performed using two 3D force plates and an eight came…

Epigenetic Regulation of Early- and Late-Response Genes in Acute Pancreatitis

2015

Abstract Chromatin remodeling seems to regulate the patterns of proinflammatory genes. Our aim was to provide new insights into the epigenetic mechanisms that control transcriptional activation of early- and late-response genes in initiation and development of severe acute pancreatitis as a model of acute inflammation. Chromatin changes were studied by chromatin immunoprecipitation analysis, nucleosome positioning, and determination of histone modifications in promoters of proinflammatory genes in vivo in the course of taurocholate-induced necrotizing pancreatitis in rats and in vitro in rat pancreatic AR42J acinar cells stimulated with taurocholate or TNF-α. Here we show that the upregulat…

Soft Skills Development Needs and Methods in Micro-Companies of ICT Sector

2018

Abstract This article calls for the inclusion of soft skills in the development of information and communication technology (ICT) sector's specialists in order to increase the competitiveness of ICT SME's. For a successful activity, ICT specialist needs two categories of skills: hard and soft skills. When talking about hard skills, we refer to direct technical knowledge. On the opposite, soft skills refer to communication, team work, creativity, problem solving and other personal skills. Experts agree that beside hard (technical) skills, soft (also called people-) skills are necessary. The research was based on an analysis of European level documents on skills needs, desk research in partne…

Technical efficiency and regional disparities in Italy

2019

This paper is a contribution to the literature on Italy's regional disparities with a focus on the nature and determinants of firms' technical efficiency. Our analysis concerns a vast number of Italian firms for the decade 2008-2017 and considers the firms that are annually obliged to deposit their balance sheet. A frontier stochastic analysis is used as a method for estimating the technical efficiency of each firm. Our results offer a detailed representation on a provincial basis of disparity gaps. Moreover econometric analysis provides convincing evidence on the importance of territorial variables in the determinants of technical efficiency.

Discussing the Concepts of Cluster and Industrial District

2016

The significance and popularity of the cluster and industrial district concepts claim for a deeper reflection. The analysis of one of the European Commission’s (EC) policy documents shows inconsistencies that do not impede the formulation of normative statements. That way we answer the question of why and how cluster ideas have substituted industrial district principles and the consequences derived from that phenomenon.

Past aquatic environments in the Levant inferred from stable isotope compositions of carbonate and phosphate in fish teeth

2019

Here we explore the carbon and oxygen isotope compositions of the co-existing carbonate and phosphate fractions of fish tooth enameloid as a tool to reconstruct past aquatic fish environments and harvesting grounds. The enameloid oxygen isotope compositions of the phosphate fraction (δ18OPO4) vary by as much as ~4‰ for migratory marine fish such as gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata), predominantly reflecting the different saline habitats it occupies during its life cycle. The offset in enameloid Δ18OCO3-PO4 values of modern marine Sparidae and freshwater Cyprinidae from the Southeast Mediterranean region vary between 8.1 and 11.0‰, similar to values reported for modern sharks. The mean δ13C …
