In a perfect world, it would always be possible to operate technology effortlessly and to reach the desired goal. However, in the real world many factors may make technologies difficult to use or even hinder people from using technical artefacts. Most of these factors pertain to usability (i.e., technology’s ability to fit users’ capabilities) and thus concern technological solutions from the point of view of human beings as users of technology. Therefore, designing technical artefacts that are easy to use requires understanding the psychological and mental preconditions for using technology.

The Dunkl–Williams constant, convexity, smoothness and normal structure

Abstract In this paper we exhibit some connections between the Dunkl–Williams constant and some other well-known constants and notions. We establish bounds for the Dunkl–Williams constant that explain and quantify a characterization of uniformly nonsquare Banach spaces in terms of the Dunkl–Williams constant given by M. Baronti and P.L. Papini. We also study the relationship between Dunkl–Williams constant, the fixed point property for nonexpansive mappings and normal structure.

Isotropic stochastic flow of homeomorphisms on Sd for the critical Sobolev exponent

Abstract In this work, we shall deal with the critical Sobolev isotropic Brownian flows on the sphere S d . Based on previous works by O. Raimond and LeJan and Raimond (see [O. Raimond, Ann. Inst. H. Poincare 35 (1999) 313–354] and [Y. LeJan, O. Raimond, Ann. of Prob. 30 (2002) 826–873], we prove that the associated flows are flows of homeomorphisms.

Majority and minority influence, task representation and inductive reasoning

One hundred and fifty-five participants had to solve a set of 2–4–6 like reasoning problems (Wason, 1960), in which they were told which hypothesis a majority (or a minority) proposed, as well as which example was used for the test. In a 2 × 2 design, participants were also told that the problems allowed either one single correct answer or several possible answers. Results show that, when the source is a majority and the problem allows one single answer, most participants adopt the source's hypothesis and use confirmatory testing. Le passage des sociétés modernes aux sociétés postmodernes impose la réévaluation de la notion de sujet et des modalités de construction de la règle scolaire. Si, à l’école, le contrôle devient régulation, la question de la nécessaire intériorisation de la loi scolaire gomme celle de l’arbitraire et de la plurivocité des règles. La spécificité du système éducatif français tient à la construction historique républicaine de la laïcité, abusivement saisie comme neutralité politique ou religieuse. Le déni du caractère négociable et interprétatif des normes scolaires scelle le caractère politique de l’institution scolaire et les difficultés à penser collectivement le lien/lieu scolaire.

We propose a novel approach for the recommendation of possible customers (users) to advertisers (e.g., brands) based on two main aspects: (i) the comparison between On-line Social Network profiles, and (ii) neighborhood analysis on the On-line Social Network. Art as being not only exalted vision of the artist, is a subject to the whole series of dependences. Among them there are institutional and non-institutional factors. It is no different in the case of cinema. Within its field representation issues of a social group and its interests may cross. There we may encounter the political of the presented content, but also of the environment in which it arises. Therefore, the reflection on Polish cinema of the younger generation created by women seems reasonable. The purpose of these considerations is therefore examining its political face, both in terms of the content itself and the conditions of its formation.
