In its general form, this problem is referred to as the Object Partitioning Problem (OOP), known to be NP-hard. Within odour mixtures, such information is contained in the odours of specific elements or in the mixture configuration perceived as a whole unique odour. Capturing colorectal cancer inter-tumor heterogeneity in patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models

Patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models have become an important asset in translational cancer research. However, to provide a robust preclinical platform, PDXs need to accommodate the tumor heterogeneity that is observed in patients. Colorectal cancer (CRC) can be stratified into four consensus molecular subtypes (CMS) with distinct biological and clinical features. Surprisingly, using a set of CRC patients, we revealed the partial representation of tumor heterogeneity in PDX models. Data description for continuous parameters is sometimes only based on means and standard deviations of measurement series, graphical representation only concentrates on corresponding "MSE plots", which provide means and standard deviations or even only mean squared errors. However, this strategy is only correct for normally distributed data. Outliers may seriously bias mean and standard deviations and may therefore lead to wrong clinical conclusions. The present paper suggests the use of medians and quartiles, which - just like their graphical pendant, the nonparametric "box whisker plot" - can be applied much more flexibly.

Is displacement possible without language? This question was addressed in a recent work by Liszkowski and colleagues (Liszkowski, Schafer, Carpenter, & Tomasello, 2009). The authors carried out an experiment to demonstrate that 12-month-old prelinguistic infants can communicate about absent entities by using pointing gestures, while chimpanzees cannot. This paper introduces the generic representation and construction methods for the architectures of the four-wheel-drive hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) powertrain, which achieve the unified rules to represent and construct all types of HEV powertrains. To map the architecture into numerical variables and add it into optimization, the kinematic matrix of the HEV powertrain is extracted corresponding to the topological structure. Based on the torque distribution requirement of four-wheel-drive HEV, the initial design schemes (architecture and parameters) are created by charge-under-go feasibility inspection.
