An assessment of factors controlling N

2016

Management of plant residues plays an important role in maintaining soil quality and nutrient availability for plants and microbes. However, there is considerable uncertainty regarding the factors controlling residue decomposition and their effects on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the soil. This uncertainty is created both by the complexity of the processes involved and limitations in the methodologies commonly used to quantify GHG emissions. We therefore investigated the addition of two soil residues (durum wheat and faba bean) with similar C/N ratios but contrasting fibres, lignin and cellulose contents on nutrient dynamics and GHG emission from two contrasting soils: a low-soil org…

Molecular Classification of Pesticides Including Persistent Organic Pollutants, Phenylurea and Sulphonylurea Herbicides

2014

Pesticide residues in wine were analyzed by liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry. Retentions are modelled by structure–property relationships. Bioplastic evolution is an evolutionary perspective conjugating effect of acquired characters and evolutionary indeterminacy–morphological determination–natural selection principles; its application to design co-ordination index barely improves correlations. Fractal dimensions and partition coefficient differentiate pesticides. Classification algorithms are based on information entropy and its production. Pesticides allow a structural classification by nonplanarity, and number of O, S, N and Cl atoms and cycles; different behaviours depend …

Pesticide residues in Lake Albufera, Valencia, Spain.

1987

Abstract Analysis of water samples from the lake in Albufera, Valencia, indicates that the pesticides molinate, benthiocarb, and fenitrothion do not reach levels that are lethal to fish.

Fate of the herbicides glyphosate, glufosinate-ammonium, phenmedipham, ethofumesate and metamitron in two Finnish arable soils.

2006

The fate of five herbicides (glyphosate, glufosinate-ammonium, phenmedipham, ethofumesate and metamitron) was studied in two Finnish sugar beet fields for 26 months. Soil types were sandy loam and clay. Two different herbicide-tolerant sugar beet cultivars and three different herbicide application schedules were used. Meteorological data were collected throughout the study and soil properties were thoroughly analysed. An extensive data set of herbicide residue concentrations in soil was collected. Five different soil depths were sampled. The study was carried out using common Finnish agricultural practices and represents typical sugar beet cultivation conditions in Finland. The overall obse…

Analytical utility of quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry for the determination of pesticide residues in comparison with an optimized column …

2009

Abstract A multiresidue method for the analysis of 30 pesticides with different physicochemical properties in fruits and vegetables was developed. The method involves a rapid and small-scale extraction procedure based on matrix solid-phase dispersion using octadecylsilyl (C18) as the dispersant and dichloromethane as the eluent. The target pesticides were determined using column high-performance liquid chromatography/triple quadrupole-tandem mass spectrometry (LC/QqQ-MS/MS). The method was validated for sensitivity, linearity, reproducibility, and accuracy. A recovery study was conducted at 3 different levels, and the average ranged from 74 to 99 for all of the studied compounds, with relat…

Experimental Study on Diflubenzuron: Degradation in Freshwater and Bioconcentration in Mosquitofish Following Chronic Exposure

2013

ISSN: 2152-2197 ; ESSN: 2152-2219. Editeur commercial : Scientific Research Publishing; International audience; Diflubenzuron (DFB, trade name dimilin® 25 WP) is a chitin synthesis inhibitor widely used against forest insect pests in Algeria. Prior to implementation of these products as chemical agents for mosquito control, knowledge on their potential effects on non-target organisms and its behaviour in water are needed. Therefore, the present study was focused on DFB and aimed to use an HPLC procedure developed previously in order to obtain information on its degradation in freshwater and its bioconcentration in adult females of the fish Gambusia affinis (Cyprinodondiformes, Poeciliidae),…

Dependence of enzyme reaction mechanism on protonation state of titratable residues and QM level description: lactate dehydrogenase

2005

We have studied the dependence of the chemical reaction mechanism of L-lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) on the protonation state of titratable residues and on the level of the quantum mechanical (QM) description by means of hybrid quantum-mechanical/molecular-mechanical (QM/MM) methods; this methodology has allowed clarification of the timing of the hydride transfer and proton transfer components that hitherto had not been possible to state definitively. Sensitive Monoclonal Antibody-Based Immunoassays for Kresoxim-methyl Analysis in QuEChERS-Based Food Extracts

2014

Kresoxim-methyl is nowadays widely used to combat a diversity of common diseases affecting high-value crops. In this article, we report the development and characterization of two novel immunoassays for the analysis of this pioneer strobilurin fungicide, and for the first time, a validation study with food samples was performed. A direct and an indirect competitive immunoassay based on a new anti-kresoxim-methyl monoclonal antibody were developed for sensitive and specific chemical analysis. Optimized assays showed limits of detection of 0.1 μg/L. Fruit and vegetable samples were extracted with acetonitrile by the QuEChERS procedure and analyzed by the developed immunoassays after a simple …

Determination of five pesticide residues in oranges by matrix solid-phase dispersion and liquid chromatography to estimate daily intake of consumers.

2001

Abstract Residues of benzoylphenylurea insecticides (diflubenzuron, hexaflumuron, and flufenuxuron), carboxamide acaricides (hexythiazox), and carbamate insecticides (benfuracarb) were determined in 150 orange fruit samples from September 1998 to June 1999, to estimate exposure of the Valencian population to oranges contaminated with these newly developed pesticides. The method for monitoring these residues is based on matrix solid-phase dispersion and liquid chromatography with UV or atmospheric pressure chemical ionization/mass spectrometry (APCI/MS) detection. Orange samples representing 11 varieties were collected from an agricultural cooperative and examined for the 5 pesticides. In 74…

Matrix solid-phase dispersion microextraction and determination by high-performance liquid chromatography with UV detection of pesticide residues in …

1999

A multiresidue method based on matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) microextraction was studied to determine the carbamate, benfuracarb, and urea insecticides, diflubenzuron, flufenoxuron hexaflumuron and hexythiazox, used in control of citrus pests. Optimisation of different parameters, such as the type of solid support for matrix dispersion, elution solvents and the clean-up step were carried out. The method used 0.5 g of orange sample, C8 bonded silica as MSPD sorbent and dichloromethane as eluting solvent. Recoveries, at spiked concentrations below the maximum residue levels established by Spanish Government, were between 74 and 84% with relative standard deviations ranging from 2 to 4%…
