MRI resolution enhancement using total variation regularization
2009
We propose a novel method for resolution enhancement for volumetric images based on a variational-based reconstruction approach. The reconstruction problem is posed using a deconvolution model that seeks to minimize the total variation norm of the image. Additionally, we propose a new edge-preserving operator that emphasizes and even enhances edges during the up-sampling and decimation of the image. The edge enhanced reconstruction is shown to yield significant improvement in resolution, especially preserving important edges containing anatomical information. This method is demonstrated as an enhancement tool for low-resolution, anisotropic, 3D brain MRI images, as well as a pre-processing …
Integrating resolution—like procedures with Lukasiewicz implication
1993
We discuss some conceptual and technical problems raised by the attempt of integrating resolution-like procedures with the use of Lukukasiewicz implication Min{1, 1 – [a] + [b]} in an environment of approximate reasoning modelled by fuzzy logics.
Definiteness Marking Shows Late Effects during Discourse Processing: Evidence from ERPs
2009
This paper investigates the processing of indefinite and definite noun phrases in discourse. It presents data from an Event-Related brain Potential (ERP) study that contrasted definite and indefinite noun phrases following three distinct context sentences. The data suggest that coherence considerations influence early processing stages, while morphological definiteness features only affect later stages during reference resolution. In addition, the processing of a definite determiner (prior to encountering the subsequent noun) exerts processing demands, supporting the functional contribution of definiteness marking. Supplementary data from a plausibility questionnaire and two completion stud…
δ30Si and δ29Si Determinations on USGS BHVO-1 and BHVO-2 Reference Materials with a New Configuration on a Nu Plasma Multi-Collector ICP-MS
2008
We report silicon isotopic determinations for USGS rock reference materials BHVO-1 and BHVO-2 using a Nu Plasma multi-collector (MC)-ICP-MS, upgraded with a new adjustable entrance slit, to obtain medium resolution, as well as a stronger primary pump and newly designed sampler and skimmer cones ("B" cones). These settings, combined with the use of collector slits, allowed a resolution to be reached that was sufficient to overcome the (NO)-N-14-O-16 and N-14(2) interferences overlying the Si-30 and the Si-28 peaks, respectively, in an earlier set-up. This enabled accurate measurement of both delta Si-30 and delta Si-29. The delta value is expressed in per mil variation relative to the NBS 28…
Aerosol optical properties and instantaneous radiative forcing based on high temporospatial resolution CARSNET ground-based measurements over eastern…
2017
Abstract. Variations in the optical properties of aerosols and their radiative forcing were investigated based on long-term synchronous observations made at three-minute intervals from 2011 to 2015 over seven adjacent CARSNET (China Aerosol Remote Sensing NETwork) urban (Hangzhou), suburban (Xiaoshan, Fuyang, LinAn, Tonglu, Jiande) and rural (ChunAn) stations in the Yangtze River Delta region, eastern China. The aerosol optical depth (AOD) varied from 0.68 to 0.76, with two peaks in June and September, and decreased from the eastern coast to western inland areas. The ratio of the AOD of fine-mode particles to the total AOD was > 0.90 and the extinction Angström exponent was > 1.20 thr…
A wavelet-based demosaicking algorithm for embedded applications
2010
This paper presents an alternative to the spatial reconstruction of the sampled color filter array acquired through a digital image sensor. A demosaicking operation has to be applied to the raw image to recover the full-resolution color image. We present a low-complexity demosaicking algorithm processing in the wavelet domain. Produced images are available at the output of the algorithm either in the spatial representation or directly in the wavelet domain for high-level post processing in the latter domain. Results show that the computational complexity has been lowered by a factor of five compared to state of the art demosaicking algorithms.
To transmit genes without becoming mother: An evolutionary conflict behind denial of pregnancy
2016
Aim: The etiology of pregnancy denial remains poorly understood. Neither necessary nor sufficient conditions can be synthesized from the risk factors identified from psychological analyses. In accordance with clinical observations, we aim to explain denial of pregnancy from an evolutionary conflict perspective. Methods: Authors investigate evolutionary biology aspects and emphasize on the transition from solitary animal species to social species. The possibility of conflicts between primitive species-perpetuation forces and subjective social-identity forces are explored. Results: As members of a social species, human beings have a dual, contradictory character of independent organisms but i…
Denoising 3D Models with Attributes using Soft Thresholding
2004
International audience; Recent advances in scanning and acquisition technologies allow the construction of complex models from real world scenes. However, the data of those models are generally corrupted by measurement errors. This paper describes an efficient single pass algorithm for denoising irregular meshes of scanned 3D model surfaces. In this algorithm, the frequency content of the model is assessed by a multiresolution analysis that requires only 1-ring neighbourhood without any particular parameterization of the model faces. Denoising is achieved by applying the soft thresholding method to the detail coefficients given by the multiresolution analysis. Our method is suitable for irr…
Automated high-performance liquid chromatographic determination of amphetamine in biological fluids using column-switching and on-column derivatizati…
1999
A rapid and simple liquid-chromatographic method has been developed for on-line quantification of amphetamine in biological fluids. Untreated samples (20 μL) are injected directly into the chromatographic system and purified on a 20 mm×2.1 mm i.d. pre-column packed with 30 μm Hypersil C18 stationary phase. After clean-up the analyte is transferred to the analytical column (125 mm×4 mm i.d., 5 μm LiChrospher 100 RP18) for derivatization and separation using a mixture of acetonitrile and the derivatization reagent (o-phthaldialdehyde andN-acetyl-L-cysteine) as the mobile phase. The experimental conditions for on-line derivatization and resolution of the amphetamine have been optimized, and th…
Exploring hand-portable nano-liquid chromatography for in place water analysis: Determination of trimethylxanthines as a use case.
2020
Abstract Analytical performance and optimization of figures of merit of a portable nano liquid chromatograph (NanoLC) with UV detection at 255 nm have been established for in place analysis. Methylxanthines: caffeine, theophylline and theobromine were selected as target analytes. A fast lab method based on IT-SPME coupled on line with capillary liquid chromatograph (CapLC) with diode array detection (DAD) was employed for comparative studies. IT-SPME and solid phase extraction were coupled off-line to NanoLC for improving instrumental parameters, mainly detection capacity and selectivity. IT-SPME or SPE/portable NanoLC based methods were superior in terms of chromatographic resolution and o…
