Synthesis of new soluble polybenzyls by Friedel-Crafts reactions

1999

Soluble polybenzyls were prepared by a catalytic electrophilic Friedel-Crafts type polycondensation between α,α'-dichloro-p-xylene and substituted (by an alkyl or an alkoxy side-chain) mesitylene. The influence of the length of the side-chain on the solubility of the polymer was examined. The polymers were found to be soluble in common organic solvents. Polymer characterizations were made by 13 C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), size exclusion chromatography (SEC), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and elemental analysis.

The effect of silica nanoparticles on the morphology, mechanical properties and thermal degradation kinetics of PMMA

2012

Abstract Silica–PMMA nanocomposites with different silica quantities were prepared by a melt compounding method. The effect of silica amount, in the range 1–5 wt.%, on the morphology, mechanical properties and thermal degradation kinetics of PMMA was investigated by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), thermogravimetric analyses (TGA), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), 13 C cross-polarization magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy ( 13 C{ 1 H} CP-MAS NMR) and measures of proton spin-lattice relaxation time in the rotating frame ( T 1 ρ ( H )), in the laboratory frame ( T 1 ( H )) a…

Synthesis, structure, physicochemical characterization and theoretical evaluation of non-covalent interaction energy of a polymeric copper(II)-hydraz…

2019

Abstract One dimensional polymeric copper-hydrazone complex {[Cu(H0.5L)(µ1,3-SCN)]0.5ClO4·0.5MeOH}n (1) has been synthesized with Cu(ClO4)2·xH2O and N'-(1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethylidene)acetohydrazide (HL) in presence of NaSCN. The ligand and the complex have been characterized by several spectroscopic techniques (IR, UV–Vis and EPR), cyclic voltammetry and the structure of 1 has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The complex is an infinite one dimensional polymer bridged by thiocyanate. The magneto-structural correlation has been determined and the non-covalent interactions present in the molecule have been energetically evaluated by means of DFT calculations.

Triterpenoid saponins from Piptadeniastrum africanum (Hook. f.) Brenan

2013

One new triterpenoid saponin, named piptadeniaoside (1), along with two known saponins (2–3) have been isolated from the stem bark of Piptadeniastrum africanum. After previous isolation of flavone derivatives from this plant, new phytochemical investigations were performed for its saponin content. Their structures were established by direct interpretation of their spectral data, mainly HRESIMS, 1D NMR (1H, 13C NMR, DEPT) and 2D NMR (COSY, NOESY, HSQC and HMBC), and by comparison with the literature data.

Characterization of some triphenyltin(IV) complexes of 5-(arylazo)salicylaldehyde ligands using IR, 1H, 13C, 119Sn NMR and 119Sn Mössbauer spectrosco…

1994

Abstract Coordination complexes of 5-(arylazo)salicylaldehyde with triphenyltin chloride have been prepared and subjected to IR, multinuclear NMR (1H, 13C, 119Sn) and 119Sn Mossbauer spectroscopy. 5-(Arylazo)salicylaldehyde forms two types of complexes viz. triorganotin adducts and phenoxides. In the adducts, the protonated ligand coordinates through the aldehydic oxygen atom while in phenoxides, the coordination occurs via the phenolic oxygen atom and the oxygen atom of the aldehydic group. The spectroscopic data suggest that both types of complexes adopt a cis-trigonal bipyramidal geometry around tin.

Magnetic and Spectroscopic Study on a New Asymmetric Mixed-valence Mn2(II,III) Coordination Compound

2015

A new dinuclear mixed-valence compound [MnIIMnIII(bttpnol)(O2C–C6H4–NO2)2]ClO4 was synthesized by using the asymmetric heptadentate ligand N-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-N,N′,N′-tris(2-pyridylmethyl)-1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol (H2btppnol). One central manganese atom assumes N3O3 and the other N2O4 coordination sphere. Both manganese ions are bridged by the alkoxy-group of the dinucleating ligand and two bidentate carboxylate groups of the nitrobenzoate ligands. The structural data show clearly that MnIII prefers the more oxygen rich donor set. Cyclic voltammetry measurements reveal that the mixed-valence state Mn2(II,III) could be reduced to Mn2(II,II) at E1/2(1) = –0.53 V and oxidized to Mn2(III,III) at …

Observation of Very Narrow Linewidths in the Fluorescence Excitation Spectra of Single Conjugated Polymer Chains at 1.2 K

2007

Fluorescence emission and excitation spectra of single poly[2-methoxy-5-(2'-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene vinylene] polymer molecules embedded in poly(methylmethacrylate) have been recorded at 1.2 K. The ubiquitous spectral diffusion causes large variations in the spectral shape and apparent linewidth in the emission spectra. Nevertheless, we find very narrow (approximately 0.1 cm(-1)) purely electronic zero-phonon lines in the excitation spectra, which are 2 orders of magnitude smaller than previous estimates of the homogeneous linewidth. These results complement the molecular description of the low energy transitions in conjugated polymers.

Localized surface plasmon resonance sensor based on Ag-PVA nanocomposite thin films

2009

In this work we demonstrate the use of nanocomposite thin films of poly(vinyl alcohol) with embedded silver NPs for chemosensing purposes. Silver NPs are in situ synthesized inside polyvinyl alcohol during the bake step of the formation of a nanocomposite thin film. The polymer in the nanocomposite provides an appropriate chemical and electromagnetic environment for metal NPs in order to interact with and hence detect the chemical species. A limit of detection below 20 nM is found when detecting 2-mercaptoethanol as the analyte, when measuring spectral changes (peak wavelength, linewidth and intensity) in the Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance. Potential qualitative and semi-quantitative s…

Oxotris(oxalato)niobate(V) as counterion in cobalt(II) spin-crossover systems

2016

Abstract This work is devoted to the investigation of the thermally induced spin-crossover behavior from a high-spin state (HS, S = 3/2) at higher temperatures to a low-spin phase (LS, S = 1/2) at lower temperatures of the six-coordinate cobalt(II) complex in the compound [Co(terpy)2]3[NbO(C2O4)3]2·3CH3OH·4H2O (2). The crystal structure of 2 together with that of its counterion as tetraphenylarsonium(V) salt (AsPh4)3[NbO(C2O4)3]·9H2O (1) are also included. The spin-crossover process was followed by the thermal variation of the χMT product between 2.0 and 400 K under the warming mode, with the LS configuration being achieved at T ⩽ 200 K and the LS → HS interconversion being incomplete at 4…

Pyrrolide-imine benzyl complexes of zirconium and hafnium: synthesis, structures, and efficient ethylene polymerization catalysis

2004

Abstract A series of pyrrolyl-imines HL1–6 was prepared by the condensation of pyrrole-2-carboxyaldehyde with different amines. The reaction of 2 equiv of pyrrolyl-imine with tetrabenzyl complexes of hafnium and zirconium M(CH2Ph)4 (M=Hf or Zr) gave dibenzyl complexes (L3–6)2M(CH2Ph)2, which were characterized by NMR spectroscopy and crystal structure analysis. NMR spectra of the complexes with secondary alkyl substituents at the imine nitrogen (isopropyl: 3a, 4-tert-butylcyclohexyl: 4a and 4b) suggest that rapid racemization between Δ and Λ configurations occurs in solution on the NMR time scale. The complexes with pyrrolide-imine ligands with a tertiary alkyl group such as tert-butyl (5a …
