Imaging of “Malignant” External Otitis

“Malignant” external otitis or necrotizing external otitis (NEO) is a rare and severe infection of the external auditory meatus, causing destructive changes of the petrous bone, infiltrating inframastoid and intracranial tissues, with potentially lethal consequences. Five male diabetic patients, aged 61 to 85 years-old (mean age was 74 y.o), referred with biopsy-proven NEO, underwent CT and MRI studies for the assessment of the extension of the disease. Clinical data concerning the examined patients are summarized in table 1. Objective: To study differences in risk factors and clinical variables between a group of patients with osteoarthritis and a group with osteoarthrosis of the temporomandibular joint. Material and methods: Thirty-five patients (32 women and 3 men) (mean age 53±18 years), 21 (60%) with a diagnosis of osteoarthrosis (mean age 54.7±20.2 years) and 14 (40%) with a diagnosis of osteoarthritis (mean age 51.7±16.9 years), were studied. A radiomics evaluation of 2D and 3D MRI texture features to classify brain metastases from lung cancer and melanoma

[EN] Brain metastases are occasionally detected before diagnosing their primary site of origin. In these cases, simple visual examination of medical images of the metastases is not enough to identify the primary cancer, so an extensive evaluation is needed. To avoid this procedure, a radiomics approach on magnetic resonance (MR) images of the metastatic lesions is proposed to classify two of the most frequent origins (lung cancer and melanoma). Head and neck paragangliomas are highly vascularized neuroendocrine tumors derived from the extra-adrenal paraganglia of the autonomic nervous system. These tumors may occur either sporadically or in the context of a hereditary familial tumor syndrome, and multifocal presentations are observed, particularly in hereditary cases. Hereditary paragangliomas are mostly caused by mutations in the succinate dehydrogenase complex genes.
