ICT USE AT STUDENTS: RISKS AND RESOURCES
2019
Curricula for the teaching of complete dentures in Spanish and Portuguese dental schools
2012
Objectives: Given the need to ensure that dentists are sufficiently skilled to offer the best possible care to their patients, this study aims to evaluate the teaching methods and clinical experience achieved by undergraduate dental students in Spain and Portugal as regards complete dentures. Study design: In February 2011, a questionnaire seeking information about the preclinical and clinical teaching of complete dentures was e-mailed to all Spanish and Portuguese dental schools with fully developed undergraduate degree dental programs. Results: A response rate of 82.6% was obtained. The distribution of lectures and hours spent at the laboratory and in clinical activities revealed that tea…

LAS COMPETENCIAS DEL PROFESORADO EN TIC: ESTRUCTURA BÁSICA (THE COMPETENCIES OF TEACHERS IN ICT: BASIC STRUCTURE)
2013
The ICT competences of teachers are a key variable for ICT integration in school. This paper presents a framework of indicators of competence in relation to two dimensions from a MIMIC model: the first one concerns technological competences and the second one has to do with pedagogical competences. The model includes the definition of a specific relationship between these dimensions and also the effects of a set of relevant factors: personal (gender, age and frequency of computer use) and contextual (type of educational institution, educational stage and access to computer classroom). The information was collected through a questionnaire answered by a sample of 868 teachers of elementary an…
Engaging universities in social innovation research for understanding sustainability issues
2017
International audience; The paper presents the analysis of a three-stage research conducted by the authors within a social innovation project in collaboration with international master students of Riga Technical University for determining the factors, which motivate people to be involved in the solution of social problems. The authors not only analyse and use the outcomes of the students’ research but also provide feasibility study of using the potential of study research at the university, for implementing serious research projects. Data collection from Africa, Asia, America and Europe was organised jointly by all the students via web-based survey for creating an original data base for the…
Constructing digital portfolios: teachers evolving capabilities in the use of information and communications technology
2001
Abstract The article describes a collaborative action research project, which encouraged teachers to participate in displaying and developing the pedagogical practices of early childhood institutions through networking and digital web portfolios. Special emphasis is placed on examining the progress of teachers ICT capabilities during the first two cycles of action research. The study is based on the ecological approach to virtual learning environments. In the ecological approach, the description of virtual communities is extended to include features of the overall environment: technical devices, programs, materials, tools for communication and planning, different social and emotional proces…
Women in technology-oriented fields
2015
This study focuses on investigating the main elements that have an effect on women’s decisions to enter a career in technology-oriented fields, and more specifically, to discover whether studying crafts, especially technical work, during basic education affects their decisions in this context. The study was carried out using a semi-structured questionnaire, and the data consist of the responses from 12 female technology education teachers and 12 female engineering students. A qualitative theory oriented content analysis was carried out through identifying, coding, analysing and reporting the patterns within the data. The findings revealed that the most influential career anchor identified b…
Position paper - progress towards standards in integrated (aerobic) MBR modelling.
2020
Membrane bioreactor (MBR) models are useful tools for both design and management. The system complexity is high due to the involved number of processes which can be clustered in biological and physical ones. Literature studies are present and need to be harmonized in order to gain insights from the different studies and allow system optimization by applying a control. This position paper aims at defining the current state of the art of the main integrated MBR models reported in the literature. On the basis of a modelling review, a standardized terminology is proposed to facilitate the further development and comparison of integrated membrane fouling models for aerobic MBRs. ispartof: WATER …

Attitudes and perceptions of faculty members in the process adopting innovation: The OpenCourseWare initiative at the University of Valencia, Spain
2014
The OpenCourseWare project, an open learning resource repository, was established at the University of Valencia between 2008 and2009. It initially consisted of only 10 subjects, none of which was in the field of Health Sciences. The objective of this research was toinvestigate the attitudes and perceptions of faculty members in the field of Health Sciences with regard to the project to identify strategies to increase its use and expand its coverage. We applied Rogers’ innovation-diffusion theory along with a qualitative approach using theoretical sampling, semi-structured interviews and open coding. The results indicate the existence of two categories of faculty members. In the first group,…
