A Retrospective Analysis about Frequency of Monitoring in Italian Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Patients after Discontinuation

2019

Background: Successful tyrosine-kinase inhibitors (TKIs) discontinuation has been obtained in some patients (pts) with chronic-phase chronic myeloid leukemia (CP-CML). Careful molecular monitoring after discontinuation is the key to guarantee the safety, in terms of prompt resumption of therapy according to retreatment threshold criteria. It was observed that the majority of relapses usually occur during the first 6 months after TKI discontinuation [Saussele S, Lancet Oncol 2018; Etienne G, JCO 2017], accounting for the monthly quantitative PCR (qPCR) that all prospective protocols included in the trial design at least during the first half-year. Two studies [Kong HJ, Cancer 2017; Shanmugan…

Monitoring of Plasma Concentrations of Psychotropic Drugs in Pharmacovigilance

2015

The primary aims of pharmacovigilance are supervision and prevention of medication-related problems under everyday conditions. Pharmacovigilance is an indication for monitoring plasma concentrations, i.e. conducting therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM). Using TDM, it can be clarified if observed unwanted drug effects may be attributed to abnormally high or low drug concentrations. Utmost benefits from TDM are obtained for pharmacovigilance when the method is adequately integrated into the clinical treatment process. How to do this is described in consensus guidelines for TDM in psychiatry. During the last 20 years, TDM was very successful for detection of multiple pharmacokinetic drug-drug int…

Migratory connectivity of two Baltic Sea salmon populations: retrospective analysis using stable isotopes of scales

2013

Abstract Torniainen, J., Vuorinen, P. J., Jones, R. I., Keinänen, M., Palm, S., Vuori, K. A. M., and Kiljunen, M. 2014. Migratory connectivity of two Baltic Sea salmon populations: retrospective analysis using stable isotopes of scales. – ICES Journal of Marine Science, 71: 336–344. Migratory connectivity refers to the extent to which individuals of a migratory population behave in unison, and has significant consequences for the ecology, evolution and conservation of migratory animals. We made a retrospective assessment of the migratory connectivity of River Simojoki and River Kymijoki populations of Atlantic salmon Salmo salar L. by using stable isotope analysis of archived scales to iden…

A framework for remission in SLE

2017

ObjectivesTreat-to-target recommendations have identified ‘remission’ as a target in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), but recognise that there is no universally accepted definition for this. Therefore, we initiated a process to achieve consensus on potential definitions for remission in SLE.MethodsAn international task force of 60 specialists and patient representatives participated in preparatory exercises, a face-to-face meeting and follow-up electronic voting. The level for agreement was set at 90%.ResultsThe task force agreed on eight key statements regarding remission in SLE and three principles to guide the further development of remission definitions:1. Definitions of remission wi…

Intensity and spatial extent of droughts in southern Africa

2005

International audience; The standardized precipitation index allows for monitoring the intensity and spatial extent of droughts at different time scales. We used it to do a retrospective analysis of the spatial extent of droughts in Southern Africa (South of 10°S), from 1901 to 1999. Accordingly, the 8 most severe droughts at the 6-month scale (October–April) for the summer rainfall region of Southern Africa ended in 1916, 1924, 1933, 1949, 1970, 1983, 1992 and 1995. At the 2-year scale, they ended in 1906, 1933, 1983, 1984, 1992, 1993, 1995 and 1996. Areas affected by those droughts ranged from 3.4 to 2 106 km2. Eight of those 12 years are El Niño years. Preliminary data indicates that 200…

Assessment of Lung Cancer Development in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Patients Using Quantitative High-Resolution Computed Tomography:A Retrospectiv…

2020

Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate histogram-based quantitative high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) indexes in the assessment of lung cancer (LC) development in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) patients. Materials and methods From IPF databases of 2 national respiratory centers, we retrospectively studied patients with and without LC development-respectively, divided into Group A (n=16) and Group B (n=33). The extent of fibrotic disease was quantified on baseline and follow-up HRCT examinations using kurtosis, skewness, percentage of high attenuation area (HAA%), and percentage of fibrotic area (FA%). These indexes were compared between the 2 groups using the Man…

Ten years' experience with an external quality control program for semen analysis

2012

To gauge the performance of laboratories and impact of the German semen analysis external quality control program (QuaDeGA) over its first 10 years.Retrospective analysis of QuaDeGA's twice yearly distribution of fixed semen samples and electronic material documenting sperm motility. Ranking of each participant's responses was determined according to their relation to a "target window."Multicenter. PAITENT(S): Healthy donors.None.Laboratory performance, World Health Organization (WHO) adherence.Over 19 runs, there was a steady increase of participants (280 laboratories), the largest group being private urologic practices. Although use of WHO-recommended Neubauer chamber (from 33% to 55%) an…
