GRAPH-BASED RULES FOR XML DATA CONVERSION TO OWL ONTOLOGY
2010
International audience; The paper presents a flexible method to enrich and populate an existing OWL ontology from XML data based on graph-based rules. These rules are defined in order to populate automatically a new version of an OWL ontology. Today, most of data exchanged between information systems is done with the help of the XML document. Leading researches in the domain of database systems are moving to semantic model in order to store data and its semantics definition. This flexible method consists in populating an existing OWL ontology from XML data. In paper we present such a method based on the definition of a graph which represents rules that drive the populating process.
Query expansion and semantic visualization in information system cooperations : methods and tools for information retrieval
2010
This thesis presents approaches and tools for information retrieval. Our work is part of a cooperation system based on ontologies called OWSCIS (Ontology and Web Service based Cooperation of Information Sources). We treat the problem of information retrieval by providing an enrichment method called QUEXME (QUery EXpansion MEthod) of queries based on analysis of user behavior and using the concept importance notion with regards to query. We also discussed the problem of visualization in the OWSCIS system offering a architecture of service visualization. It is composed of three modules: the request, enrichment and results. The approaches proposed in this thesis have been prototyped and the te…
"Il flusso dei suoni mi ha trascinato via". Percorsi di Richard Strauss come giovane artista
2014
Il saggio delinea i percorsi giovanili di Richard Strauss, come compositore e direttore d'orchestra, anche alla luce dei suoi rapporti con Cosima Wagner, con la "cerchia" di Bayreuth e con Gustav Mahler.
Characterization of multifunction meters based on integrated devices in the presence of harmonic distortion
2008
This paper is focused on the problem of the metrological characterization of multifunction static meters based on integrated devices, in both reference and actual operating conditions. The influence of the measurement transducers on the performance of such meters is also discussed. The analysis is supported by some experimental tests, which were carried out on a meter based on a commercial integrated device, both in the absence and in the presence of the measurement transducers.
Visualization practices in Scandinavian newsrooms : a qualitative study
2017
The visualization of numeric data is becoming an important element in journalism, and new tools and platforms make the development of data visualization in the news discourse accelerate. In this paper we present an interview study investigating this development in Scandinavian newsrooms. Editorial leaders, data journalists, graphic designers, and developers in 10 major news organizations in Norway, Sweden and Denmark inform the study on a range of issues concerning visual practices and experiences in the newsrooms. Elements of tension are revealed on issues concerning the role and effect of complex, exploratory data visualizations and concerning the role of ordinary journalists in the produ…
Regulation of tartrate metabolism by TtdR and relation to the DcuS–DcuR-regulated C4-dicarboxylate metabolism of Escherichia coli
2009
Escherichia coli catabolizes l-tartrate under anaerobic conditions to oxaloacetate by the use of l-tartrate/succinate antiporter TtdT and l-tartrate dehydratase TtdAB. Subsequently, l-malate is channelled into fumarate respiration and degraded to succinate by the use of fumarase FumB and fumarate reductase FrdABCD. The genes encoding the latter pathway (dcuB, fumB and frdABCD) are transcriptionally activated by the DcuS–DcuR two-component system. Expression of the l-tartrate-specific ttdABT operon encoding TtdAB and TtdT was stimulated by the LysR-type gene regulator TtdR in the presence of l- and meso-tartrate, and repressed by O2 and nitrate. Anaerobic expression required a functional fn…
Engineering Bacteria to Form a Biofilm and Induce Clumping in Caenorhabditis elegans
2014
Bacteria are needed for a vast range of biotechnological processes, which they carry out either as pure cultures or in association with other bacteria and/or fungi. The potential of bacteria as biofactories is hampered, though, by their limited mobility in solid or semisolid media such as agricultural or domestic waste. This work represents an attempt toward overcoming this limitation by associating bacterial biotechnological properties with the transport ability of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. We report here biofilm formation on C. elegans by engineered Escherichia coli expressing a Xhenorhabdus nematophila adhesion operon and induction of nematode social feeding behavior (clumping…
Rapid and specific detection of F17-related pilin and adhesin genes in diarrheic and septicemic Escherichia coli strains by multiplex PCR
1996
The F17-related adhesins are prevalent in Escherichia coli strains isolated from calves with diarrhea or septicemia and from lambs with nephropathy. The F17 family includes the F17a, F17b, F17c, and F111 fimbriae produced by bovine E. coli strains and the G agglutinin produced by human uropathogenic E. coli strains. An easy and inexpensive multiplex PCR method was developed to detect all the F17-related fimbriae and to identify four subtypes of structural subunit genes and two distinct subfamilies of adhesin genes by only two runs of amplification. A strict correlation was observed between the phenotypic assays and the multiplex PCR method when 166 pathogenic E. coli strains isolated from i…
Fixed domain approaches in shape optimization problems with Dirichlet boundary conditions
2009
Fixed domain methods have well-known advantages in the solution of variable domain problems including inverse interface problems. This paper examines two new control approaches to optimal design problems governed by general elliptic boundary value problems with Dirichlet boundary conditions. Numerical experiments are also included peerReviewed
A Monitoring and Management System for Energy Storage Integration in Smart Grids
2019
The integration of distributed storage systems (DSSs) at users and prosumers level can significantly contribute to energy efficiency and increase profits from renewable energy exploitation, thanks to suitable scheduling of charging and discharging periods. On the other hand, to preserve network stability and secure operation, Distribution Systems Operators (DSOs) are interested in DSSs control and cooperation with the grid. In this framework this work proposes a simple monitoring and management system for DSSs scheduling and its integration in a distributed measurement and control system architecture for smart grids. In the paper the proposed algorithm is tested on a simple case study at ho…
